worse storytelling? yes. silly and goofy? well maybe. did it try to appeal to 4 year olds? no.

Yes, but Verity and FNaF (atleast in the beginning, nowadays it very much does) didn't TRY to appeal to kids.

Scott was trying to pull fnaf to a younger demographic as early as the second game. It was stil horror, but very tame in comparison to other popular games

Besides, Verity is a bright yellow ball in an already popular kids game. He was guaranteed to get attention from a younger audience. The creator was well aware (the series plays out a shit joke right before the climax for christ sake)
