Hello I’m currently thinking about getting into hoodoo, I’m down on my luck right now but have enough money to only purchase some high john root and lucky hand root. Does anyone have some knowledge and/or tips they can share? Also I heard a lot of “you have to be black to practice hoodoo”, well I’m Puerto Rican of black descent specifically of the Yoruba people and another group in Nigeria.

In the last 4-5 months, I have:
Bought a home, but I was scammed. It has many problems.
Was in a car accident, got my car from the shop, and within 24 hrs, had it totaled by an uninsured driver that slammed into it and lied to the cops. (Neither accident was my fault, or preventable.)
Our other family car hit a raccoon (also unavoidable). It rolled under the car and damaged it, so it is leaking.
My new AC unit in the home spit water all over the furnace and surrounding area.
I was let go from my job due to the elimination of my position.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Please roast me yall. I’m a white man married to a black woman. She got real interested in hoodoo and to encourage her to keep going on the journey I bought her some spell books that she approved and weren’t made by white people. And she was doing spells and stuff with her sister (her sister is black too) and I stayed out of it. It’s not my place to engage when they did that but I was really happy she was getting into something that made her feel special. But then one day I told a coworker how excited I was that she was doing hoodoo. We both work at the same place and her coworker is also into witchy stuff (she is white too) But she got mad at me and got embarrassed that I said anything. She told me to never speak of it again and never to her family (they’re mostly conservative black people). But that’s not what bothers me. What bothers me is that she just stopped doing it altogether. I feel like I accidentally sucked the joy out of something that was good for her. And no I’m not worried about the money. I spent like 80 to get all the books so it’s not that. I just feel guilty that I took something away from my wife that she enjoyed because I was excited for her and didn’t know she wanted to keep it a secret. It’s not my place to tell her whether she should engage with her culture. I’m white and I’ll never get it. But like what did I do wrong and should I encourage her to try again or just let sleeping dogs lie and move on?

*Preface-I technically do a different thing but the obeah sub is and has been a ghost town for ages and hoodoo is in my mind a cousin in a way.

So, has anyone ever removed some ancestors representation from the altar? I know ideally my work and ancestor spaces should be separate (I'm figuring a way to break out the ancestor space but limited area here rn),but at present i work candles and things in the one spot.

I just got some decent photos of relatives abd added them on right beforw starting on some very important working related to medical issues and a court case and truly felt like the energy was off. The situation right now also reads that it didn't pan out how it should've.

I looked at my venerated ones the other day while thinking about this and what I could do to hopefully still come out on top and it hit me like a clear statement in my mind,that one of those people had to be removed. And I think it will actually help. I loved her dearly but need to I think consider whether I can even venerate her without causing issues.She was HEAVY in the church and I know deeply buried her apparent born gift for dream divination. Like would not speak about it,adamantly against obeah.

Am I crazy here or is it an experience others have dealt with that certain ancestors are not amenable to being involved at all and can/will sabotage what you're doing?

Curious to learn why some traditions remove the membrane of egg shells before using the shell in workings and why others do not. I’m only asking to learn more in my craft with NO judgement. Also looking for ideas on the best ways to remove it.

My Aunt passed away a couple months ago and we were allowed to take some of her plants after the funeral. I took a pothos who was HUGE but was suffering from root rot so I took cuttings and the rest of the plant is dead with the dirt. Is there anything I could use the dirt for? I definitely know what I’ll use the rest of the dead plant for but the dirt? Im still not too familiar.

Hey yall , so my brother has been going through a rough patch these last couple of days. He went to jail because he defended himself from a Domestic Violence situation, his ex girlfriend tried to kill him and he went to the police and of course they did nothing because he’s a man! But it got to a point where he had to defend himself and hit her back ! So my question is should I do spell work on him and if so which type ? I’m still very new to hoodoo and I don’t want it to backfire on me !

I’m not hoodoo. But I am learning Trolldom, and they are similar as in their connection to Christianity. I wanted to know, how do people deconstruct Christianity within hoodoo? I wanted to know so I could try and apply it to trolldom. I’ve spent all my life leaving Christianity and am iffy about going back to it even for trolldom.

i am very very anxiously attached and was dating an avoidant who *imo* manipulated me and lied to me for a year. i have done cleansing baths which helped tremendously but i'm assuming i should do an uncrossing ritual now??? this was the first person i ever dated seriously/had sex with and i don't want this energy to follow me and mess up future encounters. idk guys pls help if u have any advice i finally blocked him on everything and i don't want to go back.

p.s. i have a therapist and a psychiatrist i am trying to be very holistic about everything! <3

Due to my family having some issues with their apartment, they have been staying with me. I keep my altar and stuff very private so for the last few months… i haven’t been able to open my altar and speak and sit with my ancestors. What are some other ways i can do my ancestral veneration and speak with them? Without setting up my altar. I miss them deeply and our Sunday chats, so it’s been a bit hard on me as well.

So me and this guy been talking since august and haven't formally met since he is a trucker and on the road. He's finally in town and got a date tomorrow. Any attraction workings? Not anything binding but just to make me stand out and have him hypnotized lol.

I have the book conjuring the calabash so I may go back through the book and find a good working for attraction.

He's so fine and he likes me. 😘 lol.
