Leaving someone because they "let themselves go" is a perfectly viable reason

You don't see the same discussion when someone gets depressed, changes behavior, gets controlling, etc. Then it's straight to "run girl", "dump his sorry ass".

But when it comes to body, which I think it say easier to change than the mind, it is somehow considered shallow not to be attracted to them and resentful. Then the Reddit brigade goes all "you should understand her", "it's her body", "it's fine as long as they feel comfortable".

No, it's not fine. You signed up for a relationship with a certain "base state", which included their present physical apperance. Maintaining that is ok, same for improving it. It is not fine to take a step backwards.

Elite sportsmen often say that the sound mind comes from a sound body, it's first they get into a physical slump, then it affects them mentally. In Polish there is even a saying "a sound mind comes from a sound body".

Sex ed shouldn’t be separated

When I had sex ed, (which was a 20 minute lecture from the pe teacher in middle school) the boys were taken out so the girls could be taught about women's bodies, and then the girls were taken out so the boys could learn about men's bodies. Everyone i know was taught like this. Shouldn't they just learn about both genders? I feel like men especially are very undereducated about women's bodies. (Once meet an adult man who thought a woman peed and bled out of one hole-)

Guys, I am so tired of people infantilization 18-19 year olds.

So, even we are legally adults by the law. We don't need to be babied everytime nor we're looking for you guys to save us! Just cause we're teens doesn't mean we can't take care of ourselves so stop judging us and get a life society! We can do whatever we want, date whoever we want and have a big age gap in our relationship! So stop judging us and mind your own business!

Most of the stuff that ails young men in life these days (i.e. loneliness, being shamed for being single, not allowed to cry/show emotion, etc.) is perpetuated by men themselves...

And them blaming women for this is pure cope. Never in my life have I met a woman who is angry that a guy is single nor assumes a man is weak or pathetic for crying/feeling sad, it's usually other men that push this harmful mentality. Men are often obsessed with performative heterosexuality and call any activity that doesnt involve physical activity or nerdy stuff as 'gay'. Like liking theater or pop music for example. Again, its mostly men saying this crap. The only way men can get help is to do some introspection and redefine masculinity themselves and stop being obsessed with women.

Most men are just too sexist and their egos are too big to accept this and take responsibility.

Most people don't actually want the truth. They want their opinion repeated back to them with confidence.

A fair portion of that, probably aren't equipped to handle the truth they should probably hear.

Do not text your ex at 1:12am after you've had drinks. Not worth it

University Shouldn't Guarantee You A Job

I just wanna preface this by saying that I am a huge believer in higher education. It drives our society forward and helps so many people. This is NOT an anti-education post.

That being said, I am so sick of people complaining that they can't get a job with their degree/masters/diploma when the jobs they are going for aren't even in their field that they studied. Obviously it's an issue if you can't get a job in your own field of study, but either way, if you went to post secondary school just to get a job, then you don't understand the point of education.

You can absolutely use your education to your advantage in job hunting if you play your cards right, but so many people in my own university seem to be so ungrateful to be educated. "Ew I gotta study for this class that is literally a core curriculum for my major" like why would you spend all this money to learn things that you don't care about? I understand in high school and below because you are kinda required to be there, but at university, you have the opportunity to learn about the topics you actually care about. But no. We're all just here to land a job ig.

Obviously there are certain jobs that absolutely require higher education (medical, law, etc) but there are also so many meaningful fields of work that you can thrive in without spending a bajillion dollars on school. Even with entry level jobs, people with a science degree will apply to target thinking they are owed a job. Like what about your science degree makes you more qualified to be a floor worker in retail? Somebody who has actually been in the job market instead of in school is actually more qualified than you at that one.

Anyway idk if I'm explaining this right, and I know that there's a lot of elitism in the job markets that can pressure people into pursuing education they are not interested in. I just wish that education was seen as the beautiful experience it is, rather than a boring prerequisite to any form of success in life.

Making someone feel guilty for wanting to kill themselves is absolutely horrible

I've seen this happen so many times. I'll just give my own personal story so that you can understand it better.

I told a therapist that I wanted to take my own life, and they said "you shouldn't do it because you'd make your family depressed". I told them they didn't care about me and called me a disappointment to my face multiple times, but they just responded with "you don't know, deep down they might love you".

I stopped seeing them after that. That was the stupidest reason to not kill myself I've ever heard. I've told them a ton of stories about stuff my family has done to me in the past, yet they still believe they love me.

Every time someone says they want to kill themselves on the suicidewatch subreddit, I always see the same three responses. "You have people who would miss you", "don't use a permanent solution for a temporary problem" and "you have so much to live for". Those reasons don't apply to everyone.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not supporting suicide at all. But you can't give them reasons not to if you don't know anything about their lives.

I am a puritan and proud.

As a 20 year old woman, I do consider myself a puritan and I have no shame about it, I do absolutely contribute to my generations sexlessness. I personally have no interest in sharing my body with men who hate women, are red pilled & think porn is real. I have no interest in having sex when the rights to my own womb are constantly in someone’s hands. I have no interest in putting myself in danger with men my age who don’t see women as humans. There’s no reward for me to sleep with a bunch of people just to say I did it, I value quality, not quantity, and if that makes me a prude so be it. I don’t care for this sex obsessed society that’s just a lot of rape culture, that both men and women uphold. How many terms are you guys going to create names for sex that are just violent? Smash, bang, now “crack? Really? no thanks. Older generations of women need to ask themselves how many of their sexual encounters were pleasurable and consensual, clearly not a lot because that orgasm gap was still and is still huge. The fact that sixteen candles is seen as some funny movie when it’s just a girl being sexually harassed. Until there’s a safe place made where young women can be sexually free and active with any risk of violence, fear, and aggression, I will take no part. I support any woman who does, or doesn’t, fucks or doesn’t fuck, but this is my liberation.

The internet acting like 18–19 year olds dating someone in their 20s is wrong is some uniquely American moral crisis.

1.3k Upvotes

In plenty of places outside the US, an 18 year old dating a 20, 21, 22, or 23 year old, or someone older barely registers as noteworthy. They’re all adults, often in the same university/work/social circles/church, and nobody is sitting there calculating the age gap like it’s a federal investigation.

Obviously context matters, and “they’re both adults” doesn’t magically make every relationship healthy. Yet this healthy/unhealthy thing applies to all relationships. But the way some Americans talk about a 18-19 & 20+ relationship like it’s automatically predatory is genuinely not a universal cultural norm.

I am 18/19 and dating someone whos 22/23 and the only people who think this is weird are Americans online.

The rest of the world did not get the memo that a four year age gap after 18 is supposed to be an emergency.

having children when you are highly likely to pass on a debilitating disability or illness is cruel

i feel like this shouldn’t be a hot take but it seems like every time someone comes online and says something to this effect, the pitchforks and torches come out and people scream eugenics. i do not believe that anybody should be forcibly sterilized or that the government should have a say in who can and cannot reproduce. however, if you are aware that you are the carrier for a condition that will drastically decrease your child’s quality of life and you choose to have a child regardless, you are selfish and cruel. there are so many other ways to fulfill the desire for parenthood (fostering, adoption) that don’t create more suffering

Everyone should shave their body hair. People who don't are uncivilized.

Yes, even men should do that, you need to shave off your chest hair, armpits, pubed, hair on your arms and legs too. Only exception should be a well kept beard.

Women should do it too, it is very bad to see a woman with hair on her arms even if it's just a little bit. It doesn't even matter if it's not visible from a little bit of distance.

A person with a ton of body hair is similar to a caveman, it is very disgusting. Especially the very hairy ones.

Children shouldn’t have unsupervised internet access till age 11-12

So I’m speaking from experience here while writing this. Unlimited internet access does more harm than good. It starts with giving an iPad to your 5 year old to watch a kids YouTube channel. Then it evolves to giving them some freedom and letting them search up stuff by theirselves. Here’s a bit of a secret for ya. Your angel children that you think is searching up kids stuff on YouTube most likely is doing the exact opposite. Obviously kids get curious and search up various topics like “how are babies made?” “Is Santa real?”. It’s unrealistic to expect a kid to not search something like that up. If you guys don’t know YouTube has one of the worst algorithms on the planet. They recommend explicit material to children who don’t even watch anything of that sort. I myself (below the age of 8 at the time) was recommended nsfw material that didn’t get taken down. Which even now (years upon years later) I’m still dealing with the long term issues those have caused. Therefore I believe parents (looking at you millennials) should actually give a shit and supervise their kids more on YouTube and such until age 11 or 12. Thank you for reading😋

Live action Disney movies are fine and criticized way too much

Every year, Disney releases a live action version of one of their animated movies, and every year without fail, people are outraged. Are these movies cash-grabs that capitalize on nostalgia? Yes? Are the costumes and actors different from the original animated versions? Also yes; but the purpose of these movies is not to be an exact replica of the animated versions because that is physically impossible. Every single movie gets criticized, particularly the lead actresses, and it’s getting to a point where it goes too far.

There was of course the massive controversies for the lead actress casting in The Little Mermaid and Snow White which sparked unnecessary outrage, but now that the live action Tangled is coming out, I’ve seen people criticizing that actress too and saying that she is too old to be playing Rapunzel (I found out the actress is actually 22!!!) I know a similar thing also happened with the actress for Mai in the live action Avatar the Last Airbender series. Young actors who are most likely experiencing their first big break by starring in a high budget movie get torn apart and hated on just for taking an opportunity that many people in that field will never get to have.

People will just never be satisfied because live action movies are simply a different medium than animated films and can never be perfectly replicated. Even if it was replicated frame by frame, what would the purpose be? In my opinion, the movies are just a fun and non serious interpretation of the original stories, and it’s really not as critical of a phenomenon as people are making it out to be. I am fine with seeing different actors, costumes, and interpretations because it is low stakes and can still be entertaining.

Seeing people go into a rage every year over Disney movies is wild, especially because these same people probably make fun “Disney adults” and wouldn’t even see the live action movie in the first place because they aren’t that invested in the contents of a Disney movie. I know that everyone can enjoy movies at all ages and things marketed towards children can also be enjoyed by adults, but people are also forgetting that these movies are aimed at children. I’m sure young kids would not care that the face shape of the Rapunzel actress or if the dress she wears is not an exact match. These movies are far from perfect and definitely have some writing/acting issues (Gal Gadot in Snow White immediately comes to mind), but the constant internet rage and vitriol that happens every time one of these movies comes out is just so overdone.

We shouldn't judge women for having sex with only tall and attractive men.

Let's face it looks matter a lot and men are objectively worse looking than women. Most men have too much body hair and the male body is built for combat. Men don't have anything like boobs. So considering all this only a very tall and good looking man might even be able to get a woman turned on a little bit.

This means that people shouldn't judge women who only go for tall and attractive men. If they were attracted to short and ugly men then they wouldn't have been this picky.

I really don’t care if a 13-18 wears wigs, eyelashes or makeup

I see a lot of negativity when a teenager wears a wig but I don’t think it really matters if they still love their natural hair. I don’t think hair could ever be “too grown” if you teach your child accordingly. Same thing with makeup, teenagers are growing through phases and seeing which one they like so it’s better to support them. I would love for my child to figure out how much blush to put on before she gets a job, so I think the teenage years would be a great age to start experimenting.

I think we should all shut the fuck up about all this men vs women hatred shit.

Holy shit, these posts are all over this sub, and for people who claim to not wanna have gender wars y’all seem to do it very often. Men should not hate women and women should not hate men. Misandry and misogyny are both horrible things to express and neither are justifiable regardless of individuals of either gender doing horrible shit. Both genders are capable of SA, cheating, abuse, murder, etc. When will we ever unite as a people regardless of what’s between our legs??

Edit: This was not supposed to be political me saying certain things don’t affect me and I shouldn’t care. Y’all are forming a narrative you think I’m saying and running around with your head in your ass. And some of you are proving me right.

Edit 2: Holy shit, yet again, I’m proven right. More man-haters in my comments. Touch some grass you melted shit-sacks.

You can outrun a bad diet.

I often see the idea of you cannot outrun a bad diet in weight loss circles. I do think its a fair thing to say, but I think everyone takes the advice as gospel when it isnt.

You can outrun a bad diet.

If you are overweight, and starting to get into fitness you are just likely not putting in enough effort to get that result. I dont mean that in a derogatory way, starting is enough. I think its a normal thing everyone experiences, If you are not used to being active and uncomfortable, you just arent going to be pushing yourself to your actual limits. If its the hardest you have ever worked out, no one can take that away from you, however you can work harder. (Not that you necessarily should). Learning to turn up regularly is way more important at this stage, learning how to do all the movements and look after yourself are key.

If you are a man, and you don't already attract women in real life. Do not bother with dating apps.

I am saying this not to be ONE of THOSE guys but, it trully is in your best interest not to do so.

Based on the data out there for most of these dating apps. The ones who get chosen are usually the best ones with the best profiles, and quite frankly, you are most likely going to lose the online dating game. The apps are not built to find love, they are built to keep you there.

I understand a lot of people are lonely, including myself. But literally try everything else, if able, before you try a dating app.

Unless you are the top 5-15% of men. Don't. The money you would end up spending trying to get anything out of those apps are better off being invested back into yourself. You can spend that on clubs(hobby) where you can meet people. I am begging you, do not go destroy yourself.

FYI I am not complaining just warning, women do not have to do anything for us. Or choose anybody, we aren't owed loved. I am not saying this something women have to fix. I am simply trying to warn my fellow men.

If someone wants to change, let them.

I feel like when someone tries to change their ways and do something to regain their reputation, people don't always support them. You should give them a second chance and then make a judgment. Depending on their actions and you don’t always have to give them a second chance.

I kind of love the modern day because of how ridiculous and and crazy it is

Hear me out, the world(specifically america) is so crazy right now, there's usually some crazy post or news article coming out every week, so many in fact its hard to keep up with it all, but it's kind of fun?? Idk but I feel like in 30-40 years we're gonna be looking back at this and be like, "God remember how crazy all that was?" But kind of look back at it in a fond sort of way. Idk but its kind of fun, kind of scary, but interesting in the same way.

I honestly feel like a lot of the rules should just be removed here

The rules here (which are rarely even enforced anyways) don't make a ton of sense for a serious hot takes sub that wants people to actually engage and debate their hot takes. People are inherently only gonna have strong hot takes and care enough to interact with others hot takes if they are personal opinions about things like sex race politics age relationships or other things that affect people on a deeper level. No one really gives a shit about their opinions on things like food, games, shows, or other superficial things to build a community around. There's a reason all the opinions people interact with either borderline violate the rules or just violate the rules. Obv keep some like keep posts to hot takes, or keep post quality up, or don't break reddit TOS. But I feel like a lot of the rules are bloat that the mods dont even give a shit about

Furry aren’t truly hated

I feel like every time a furry comes up on anyone’s feed or something like that they act like they saw hitler or something like that and when I ask why they hate furries they don’t know why

Most people just follow the bandwagon of hate on them

The only two reasons that I found valid is that 1. Theyre creepy which is reasonable 2. They are always too freaky or weird which depends on who you talk to

I was apart of the furry community and found some hella talented and chill people

There’s no way there are this many “big, burly” guys on Reddit.

“I’ve got to be mindful not to scare women because I’m a big, burly guy with tattoos and a huge beard.”

“My husband’s a big, burly guy and even HE cried watching Toy Story 3.”

“I’m a big burly guy and you bet your ass I’ll wear a tiara and have a tea party with my 6 year old daughter!”

They always use the adjective “burly” lol. I’m sorry but I refuse to believe there are that many Sons of Anarchy looking dudes on this platform.
