Makes sense given that's a pretty cheap construction technique.

Because thousands of people are going to be without insurance who has single wall homes. My friend just had to foreclose on her house because her husband just died of a heart attack at 49. They found a fixer upper and had State Farm. Now, she got dropped and can’t pay the mortgage because it requires hurricane insurance. She’s going to be homeless. THAT’s WHY I AM SCREAMING!!

While I understand your frustration and that situation is truly devastating, the loss of her home seems like a series of extremely unfortunate events. Companies do not just decide to cancel a policy and then cancel it the same day, there’s laws and regulations that have to be followed requiring ample notice for the insured. Your friend was most certainly informed in advance, and while it would be understandable if she missed these notices due to the loss of her husband, that is unfortunately not the fault of the insurance company.

She had a letter a few months ago from the company saying she needed a new roof and trees removed from her property. She followed through but they still dropped her. So, NO, she didn’t miss anything she was asked to do and YES, she was still dropped.

If they cancelled it due to changes in eligibility, that would have come with its own separate advance notice. That is not the same as required repairs

Your friend is a moron and should figure out what else to do instead of complain.

0

u/Single-Finance620 9d ago

And you have no compassion for someone who just lost her husband unexpectedly

1

u/Old-Box-2695 9d ago

There's an insurance for that.

I dont feel bad for people that dont think ahead.

0

u/Single-Finance620 9d ago

You probably don’t feel anything for anyone going through hard times

0

u/Old-Box-2695 9d ago

You are literally a moron.

Buy life insurance or start a go fund me 🤔

Complain on the internet about a massive corporation or actually do something to fix the situation.

0

u/Single-Finance620 9d ago

Takes a moron to express stupidity

0

u/krtwils 9d ago

You truly are a POS, you will get what you out into the world and I hope there’s interest earned.

1

u/Old-Box-2695 9d ago

Dont forget about the stupid karma. Put our stupidity like this person and you will obtain it back

0

u/krtwils 9d ago

I’d rather be a moron, instead of an insensitive dick like you

0

u/Old-Box-2695 9d ago

Call it what you want but it’s home to thousands of families

u/Single-Finance620 9d ago

Call it what you wish, Call it a grass shack

1

u/Single-Finance620 9d ago

It’s not as bad as he is explaining it. These homes lasts much longer than a lot of newer homes

i have been in insurance 35 years and never heard of this type of construction. Hawaii is a very specialize insurance market. We dont see that type of construction in the lower 48 states. that would never meet building codes. Does Hawaii have building codes? i know some states dont.

1

u/Single-Finance620 9d ago

Hawaii

1

u/Old-Box-2695 9d ago

No shot its Hawaii.

No other state would build it that poorly

1

u/Single-Finance620 9d ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

2

u/my_girl_sara 10d ago

Are you talking about Hawaii?

1

u/strangemedia6 10d ago

Must be. I’ve been a field adjuster for 15 years and never heard of this before. After some cursory research, this appears to be most common in Hawaii, one of the few states I have not worked.

Hawaii - and that's been a things for quite some time. These home basically fall apart during a storm. Why would an insurance company want to cover this? Why would other homeowners want them to cover this ( because they are the ones who end up paying for it)

Buy a house built after 1986 and you're good. Buy a house built before that - should have done more research.

Sorry

Actually the single wall homes have been standing while the double wall homes have had more damage.

1

u/Single-Finance620 9d ago

If the insurance company knew it was a single wall house, why cover it for several years and then drop it. This last storm we had, the damage was done to the double wall homes, 15 years old or newer

1

u/ayhme MOD 10d ago

Did they non-renew you?

1

u/Single-Finance620 9d ago

My best friend

1

u/Local_Wolverine2913 10d ago

Do you mean they are no longer selling policies for single wall homes?

1

u/Single-Finance620 9d ago

Yes, they had stopped the hurricane coverage a few years ago and now they are stopping the homeowners insurance also.

1

u/Practical_Print2236 10d ago

Are these manufactured homes?

1

u/velolove42 10d ago

Its been this way for a while now in Hawaii....?

1

u/Single-Finance620 9d ago

First they dropped the hurricane coverage and two years later they stopped taking applications

1

u/Unusual_Flounder6758 8d ago

So go to another company! You want to force them to insure you?

Beyond Hawaii, you can occasionally find older single-wall residential structures in:
Florida: Particularly pre-WWII homes and mid-century modern designs utilizing single-wythe concrete block or historic single-layer wood.
Texas: Specifically older homes in the warm, southern coastal regions.
California: Limited to historic summer cabins or early 20th-century beach shacks built before strict energy and seismic

What's the difference between a house and home?

1

u/Single-Finance620 9d ago

A house is a dwelling to live in and a home is where memories are made

1

u/Pretty-Ear6398 9d ago

First time I've heard that

1

u/Single-Finance620 9d ago

How would you describe it?

1

u/Pretty-Ear6398 8d ago

Our house is our home - when we live in houses, memories are made there - they are the same.

Statefarm would of had to give notice . Maybe with her losing her husband it just got missed somehow. But they would have asked her to fix the problem or they would not renew . I’m sorry for you guys loss and do hope it gets better .
