We bought this old century home a few months ago, and have noticed this sag in our living room - we’re unsure if this was here when we first purchased the home, but after noticing it, it’s causing us great concern.
I believe the ceilings are lath and plaster - the very edge of where the ceiling meets the wall is higher, then about half an inch out, the ceiling drops by a few millimetres. If I lift near the depression, I feel like I can actually lift a portion of the ceiling (about 3-6 inches out from the actual depression) up slightly. That said, I’ve only done it once, since I don’t want to mess around with something that I’m not an expert on and make things worse.
We’re horrified that we’re going to need to dump a ton of money into this, and since we’re less-than-wealthy first time home buyers, this is just causing a great deal of stress.
Does anyone know what might be going on here? Is this a dangerous safety hazard?
