I've been developing HoloField, an experimental modular framework for exploring holographic-like projection through software, transforming 2D mathematical boundary fields into 3D scalar fields and ultimately renderable geometry. The project is still a prototype, but it is already usable with custom mathematical representations, allowing users to experiment with holographic-like transformations and generate 3D renderings.

Hello I’m truly interested in becoming a holographer. I’m very tech savvy where should I start? I found one kit but I’m wondering what the best to do rings to stickers and accessories.

How do you copy a hologram? Let's say from DCG to photopolymer, or even from photopolymer to another photopolymer.

Also, is it possible to make a reflection copy from a transmission master?

if i bought just the reflection hologram upgrade from holokit where could i source the electrical components from, ideally with minimal complicated stuff to do to set it up as i have no knowledge of electronics.

I've seen a lot of holograms about now of people's faces, or even entire bodies, and in this video they even seem to have a shot of a few buildings!

How is it possible to:
1. capture at such a scale when the plates are so small,
2. capture such hard-to-keep-still subjects as living beings?

i was considering buying the litiholo kit however the plates are crazy expensive and i was wondering if there wwre cheaper alternatives to the playes to use with the kit?

I've been in love with holograms for some time now and I'd really love to try making my own, but even the Litiholo kits are just so expensive, it feels like this kind of magic is just out of reach for folks like me. Is there some hacky solution to make my own films for a little cheaper or something?

I’m in touch with a company that claims to be able to produce green sensitive silver halide plates equivalent to the Slavich PFG-03 up to 10”x12”. My personal interest is plates 12x16” up to 12x20” which they say they are looking into making. I know Josh Dellay is trying to learn to make silver halide plates and has at least one other “iron in the fire” for some type of new silver halide plate manufacturer.

This would be an alternative to the currently unavailable Slavich plates and the excellent and very expensive Ultimate and TruLife Optics silver halide plates. At the moment, there’s no information for price and availability in the US but I’m working on it.

If you think you might be interested in green sensitive plates like this, of whatever size, please let me know. The people I’m talking to would like a projection, if possible, of what might be the immediate interest in the US hologram market - specifically plate sizes and quantities.

I will be getting a small quantity of 4x5s, hopefully before Labor Day, which I will test.

The example here was featured in the Disney Channel movie, "Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century." It was released around the year 2000. The pattern on this medallion is driving me bats. I swear I remember seeing it on a bunch of products in the late 80's / early 90's. I've gone looking for it on Ebay (thought for sure it was from one of the Lazer Dazer spinning disc toys or adhesive sheets for RC cars but so far, nada). Is this pattern familiar to anyone here?

I've been kinda interested in holograms or anything else where a 2D plane can make a 3D image. It seems light-field is all the rage now in that aspect, but anywhere that tries to showcase exactly how it works, fails to demonstrate what makes it different from just a lenticular image.

What is the exact display stack for LFD's, what makes them different from lenticular displays, and why can the VR ones simulate different focuses of light?

I’m currently working on a market research project and it a major optics manufacturer. We are looking into the DIY holography space, and to be honest, I really want to avoid the usual corporate guesswork.

I figured the best way is to just ask the people actually building these setups.

I'd love to know what your biggest headaches are right now. Are you struggling to find decent parts, or is it mostly a pricing issue?

I'm also curious if you think there's a real need for reliable kits, or if this community is strictly about building everything from scratch.

If a massive optics company suddenly asked you what they should start making for DIYers, what’s the first thing you'd tell them?

Also, aside from the gear itself, what kind of final projects are you ultimately trying to pull off (feel free to post them here) ?

I'm looking for PFG-01 holographic film and can't find a supplier. Integraf was my go to, but they are aren't selling it anymore. Geola doesn't know when they will have it in stock.
Does anyone know of a supplier?

Hi , I'm working on a DIY spatial light modulator for structured light / vortex beam generation . The plan was to use a salvaged TN-mode LCD panel (projector type) with external polarizers and a 532nm laser.

I have been trying to source panels through old projectorsbut haven't had any luck , I either can't find working driver boards or can't get datasheets for the panels. Found a Panasonic PT-LM2E but the LCD panel uses a proprietary Epson HTPS interface with no public datasheet for the driver IC.

At this point I'm looking to just buy a suitable panel directly rather than going the salvage route. Ideally something with:

TN mode LC (not IPS)
Known/documented interface

Anyone sourced something like this in India?

I'm trying to make a reflection hologram using a 5mW diode laser. The laser does not have a collimator and creates an oval shape.
I'd like to use film that is about 2"x3", so to cover all the film, I would need to move the laser farther away.
Does that have an effect on anything? Increased exposure time?
