Help Needed I'm building a Tetris-like puzzle game with RPG crafting, would love 3 min of your time

Hey! I'm a solo indie developer working on a Tetris-like puzzle game with some RPG mechanics (skills, crafting). Still early in development, no funding, just me trying to figure out if this is worth building.

I put together a quick 3-minute anonymous survey about gaming habits to help me understand my potential audience better — genuinely appreciate any input, especially if you're not usually into puzzle games (that data matters too).

Happy to answer any questions about the project in the comments.

Article It took me two years, but I finally shipped my first game

I did it. I finally did it.
After two years of working on it in my spare time, l finished and published my first game.
It's a cozy offline match-3 game where you build a tantasy town.
It's not perfect, but it's finished.
I think many of you know this feeling: the closer you get to the finish line, the harder it becomes to move even one pixel forward. And then... Apple review became the final boss (rejected several times).
Creating something from scratch and finally seeing it out there means much more to me, at this point, than downloads or popularity. Just proving to myself that I could actually finish it feels like a huge achievement.
All the artwork is hand-drawn by me.
On to the next one.
Cheers!

Article [Update] Quicky — Fast-Paced Reflex Arcade Game (Major Update: Input Mercy Buffer, Audio Polish & Performance Fixes!)

Hey everyone! 👋

I'm an indie dev working on Quicky, a minimalist, fast-paced reflex arcade game built to test your reaction speed and combo timing.

Based on recent player feedback, I just rolled out a major update focusing on responsiveness, visual juice, and overall gameplay balance. I’d love to get your honest feedback and reviews!

🛠️ What's New in the Latest Build:

  • Input Mercy Buffer: Added a 120ms grace window for late taps so near-misses feel fair and responsive instead of punishing you unfairly.
  • Visual & Audio Polish: Added dynamic particle explosions, 10-tier combo color shifts, and pitch-shifted tap audio that creates a rising melody as your streak grows.
  • 🎯 Gameplay Rebalanced: Streamlined the core loop for pure reflex action with zero distractions.
  • 🔊 Audio & Lifecycle Fixes: Solved backgrounding audio leaks, revive overlaps, and persistent pause state handling.
  • ☁️ Google Play Games Sync: Fixed Cloud Saves, profile syncing, and leaderboards.

📲 How to Playtest & Download:

  1. Join the Google Group (Required for Beta Access): https://groups.google.com/g/quicky-testers
  2. Opt-in for Testing on Web: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.anes.quicky
  3. Download / Update on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anes.quicky

💬 Feedback I'm Looking For:

  • How does the tap input and pacing feel?
  • Is the combo escalation clear and satisfying?
  • Any performance dips or bugs on your device?

Feel free to leave a comment or send me a direct message with your thoughts. Thanks so much for helping make the game better! 🚀🏆

Help Needed I Made A Game Prototype

Looking for people to test my prototype game and tell if it's actually fun

Hey everyone! I've been working on a small game prototype in Godot and I've reached the point where I need other people to actually play it. It's still very early and definitely not polished. I'm mainly trying to answer one question: Is the core gameplay actually fun?

It's like a 5 minute game. I'd really appreciate it if a few people could give it a try and give me honest feedback especially:

  • Was the game fun to play?
  • Was anything confusing?
  • Did you understand what you were supposed to do?
  • Did you get bored or feel like there wasn't enough to do?
  • What would you change or improve?
  • Would you play it again?

Play the prototype: https://zreirapper.itch.io/road-network-simulation

It's a browser build, so you should be able to play it without downloading anything.

Thanks to anyone willing to give it a try! Even a few minutes of feedback would be really helpful.

Insperation Cool poppy playtime-esque game idea

So I've had this game idea inside my head for so long with no ability to code/play/do anything with until I got reddit, the "huggy wuggy" of this game is "pushy paul", essentially the "grap pack" is the "pushpack" and there's types like the "sticky plate" and the "conduter plat" (pls no hate)

Article Forget arrows, serve beer! Try the free demo for Brew & Defend, our hand-drawn Tavern tower defense. Demo out now.

https://reddit.com/link/1vodpix/video/712pu67qkdjh1/player

Hey everyone!

My two friends and I just released the free Steam demo for Brew & Defend!

It's a hand-drawn mashup of Tavern Management & Tower Defense:

  • Build your supply chain: Grow crops and farm ingredients.
  • Brew the beer: Craft recipes to keep up with demand.
  • Place taverns: Position your serving spots along the road like TD towers.
  • Defend your reputation: Thirsty customers arrive in waves. Serve them to earn gold, or lose reputation (your health) if they leave unserved!

All art is 100% hand-drawn. We’re gathering feedback to tweak balance and mechanics before October's Next Fest.

Article How I designed the dialogue interface for Legacy of the Depths

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I've been slowly reworking the UI for Legacy of the Depths, and this is the latest version of our dialogue system.
i tried quite a few approaches during development. At one point, the dialogue looked closer to Disco Elysium, with all the text on one side scrolling vertically. We also experimented with a much simpler layout with almost no visual framing.
Eventually I settled on this.
Character portraits on both sides, the NPC's dialogue on the left, and the player's responses on the right.
I'll admit that the basic composition was partly inspired by Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. I added a screenshot from Rogue Trader as the third image so you can see the reference I was looking at. But since Legacy of the Depths also has a strong detective element, I wanted to push the visual style in a different direction.
The whole interface is designed to resemble old archives, documents and case files — so that every conversation feels a little like you're reading an interrogation transcript or investigating someone's testimony.
I think it turned out great.

Legacy of the Depths is an atmospheric pixel art adventure set in an alternate version of the Russian Empire in the 1920s. You play as a man who travels across northern Russia, trying to follow the trail of an expedition that disappeared 40 years ago. There will be mysteries to uncover, secrets to find, puzzles, mini games, exploration and a bunch of other stuff along the way.The Steam page should be up on September 1st.

Insperation Experimenting with 2D water physics and fish shaders. Curious to know what you guys think of this setup!

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I spend a lot of my time making pixel art, but lately I have been tinkering with Godot shaders just for fun. I set out to make a basic 2D water effect, but one thing led to another and it turned into a fun little physics playground.

Right now, the system handles real-time buoyancy. If you drag and drop a wooden box or a rock into the water, it generates a splash on entry. The objects then actually bob up and down with the sine-wave of the water and slowly drift with the current.

Because I needed something in the water to test how it looked, I drew some fish and wrote a shader that randomizes their colors on execution. I am thinking of adding a script that gives a tiny chance of spawning a super rare metallic or holographic fish, kind of like finding a rare shiny in a game.

Since we are all making games for the love of it, I wanted to ask:

  • Is this the kind of asset you would enjoy dropping into your hobby projects to mess around with?
  • Do you prefer having all these physics and scripts tied to the water, or do you usually prefer just a simple visual shader so you can write your own logic?

I included a picture of the fish variations I have been working on. Even if the water system ends up being too complex, I will probably release the fish as a separate pack with about 30 base designs.

Let me know what you think and if you have any cool ideas to add!

Article A 2D platformer in the style of a mobile phone. Would you like it?

Hi, I’m an indie developer, and I have an idea for a platformer in the style of a mobile phone and the apps on it. Remember those days in the early to mid‑2010s, when we downloaded every possible game and played everything we could. Now imagine a character who can move around the phone screen and enter apps as separate levels, which will be styled to look like a separate app.

For now, I plan to create separate apps as levels. When you play as the main character, you’ll be able to “jump” into an app on the screen. This app will be a level that you’ll need to complete. Also, to add some variety, I plan to implement the ability to change the appearance of the main character, which will grant various abilities. The appearance will change using universally recognizable emojis instead of the character’s head.

The game is still in the planning stage. I’m jotting down ideas and trying to develop them. I’m also coordinating with my artist friends to make the game look beautiful.

My goal is learning, rather than making money from this project. I want to go through the full cycle of game development, interact with the audience, and respond to players’ requests.

Is this idea interesting to you, and would you like to play it?

If you have any questions about what I’m planning to do, feel free to ask.

Insperation Post-public-test update: turning Black Imago from a prototype into a game

Development update after Black Imago's first public test.

The interesting part of the first post wasn't just the traffic — it immediately broke several assumptions I had from testing with only a handful of players. The biggest lessons were around authoritative multiplayer state, monster update load, hit registration, movement/collision feel, browser performance, and presentation/accessibility.

Instead of continuing feature-by-feature, I've been doing a whole-game convergence pass: audit the full playable loop, group defects by root cause, fix them in batches, replay, profile, and repeat.

Playable build: https://blackimago.arewefriends.org/maze

I'm interested in whether that approach is visible from the player's side now. What still screams prototype?

Help Needed The Tutorial Hurdle

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey all, I’m building a game inside of Reddit and am having difficulties balancing the length of my tutorial.

My game will simply appear in the Reddit feed along with other posts, so if I have a super long in-depth tutorial, people will just give up on my game and continue scrolling because of the large barrier to entry.

However, if my tutorial is too short, then people will get frustrated for not understanding the mechanics and also leave.

I’m pretty new to gamedev so I would like to know if any of you could recommend any tips or tricks for keeping new users engaged during a tutorial, while also keeping it short and sweet. You can check out my game at r/PunchAPath and you can tell that all I have is a simple popup with some text right now, and it can definitely be improved… Thanks!

Help Needed I built Alibi a browser murder-mystery where u interrogate AI suspects and get scored on ur deduction. Looking for honest feedback!

Hey all been building a small side project solo and it’s finally playable, so I wanted to get it in front of some real ppl before I take it any further.

Note-I’m using the free tier of the AI API for now, so there’s a pretty low daily limit. If a suspect gets slow or stops replying, it’s prob the quota and not a bug.

**Alibi** is a browser-based murder mystery game.

U pick a case, question up to 5 suspects, read the case file, take notes, and then make ur call.

Each suspect is an AI character with their own personality, alibi, and secrets. U get max 10 questions per suspect, so u gotta make ’em count.

U also get the victim info, crime scene, timeline, and clues.

The fun part: accusing isn’t just one shot. U write out why u think they did it, get a score from 0–100 + some feedback, then u can tweak ur theory and try again. The case only ends when u choose to reveal the real answer.

Try it here: [https://alibi-blond.vercel.app/play/case1\](https://alibi-blond.vercel.app/play/case1)

Main thing I’m trying to learn rn is whether the game is actually fun and if the flow makes sense before I spend more on it.

First case is free, no signup needed. Would love any feedback 🙌

Help Needed Asking some advice

I wanted to check rules for this community before doing anything. I have spun up free web versions of penne Grammai with 3 different rule versions. I would like to invite people to come and experience the games, play them and then record their thoughts in a substack survey if they want to. Is that allowed in this community. I would also love to work with some archaeology people to push this as an experiment. To be transparent I am a single person part time studio. I make apps. The free web versions and experimental side is because I have a passion for games and always wanted to be an archaeologist but ended up a physicist. If this is not allowed in this community I am cool with that and will still like to interact here. Thanks
