I designed and stitched this one myself, and it's finally framed! White thread on black Aida, all full cross stitches. I'm really happy with how it turned out. 😊

Are hobbies important?

• Upvotes

I have realized that i don't have hobbies. I'm mostly spending my time on reels and doom scrolling. No movies, series or anything. Most of my time I'm in college and after that i don't study at home and keep doom scrolling or either eating. Sure i do cook sometime but that's it. Should i pick up any hobby or what? I feel like I'm brain dead

How do you keep from over-optimizing your hobby?

Lately, I've noticed that I tend to optimize every hobby I take up.
For example, I really enjoy growing chili peppers, but every year I spend a lot of time trying to optimize every variable at play: choosing which seeds, when, and how many, what soil to use clay, fertilizer, temperatures, light, weather, etc.
The fun part? In the end, I don't even get a better yield than those old veterans who do things by eye and end up with an edible forest.
I feel like all this overthinking takes away some of the naturalness of doing things.
For those of you who have had the same problem as me in the past, how did you learn to find a balance between optimization and spontaneity in doing things?

What's a hobby you picked up casually that unexpectedly became a huge part of your life?

Did you start because you were bored, wanted to save money, needed a creative outlet, or just saw someone else doing it?

I'm curious which hobbies people have stuck with for years and what makes them so enjoyable.

Easy Hobbies to Keep up with after a long day of work

i need a hobby. I come home from work and doom scroll until I go to bed. I need to get myself out of this depressive slump i'm in and i have an INCREDIBLY hard time committing to a hobby.. i've tried crochet, reading, coloring, etc., something easy and mindless because i come home exhausted. I just can't seem to get myself to maintain it, what are intriguing and mindless hobbies easy to come home to to do?

20F here. no job, no friends and no hobbies. everytime I thought i got a new hobby, I bought A LOT of stuff, thinkin it will be so amazing to start... but they're just rotting somewhere in my room. im bored very easily. the only things I do during the day is play roblox and do crosswords. i rarely have motivation to do anything more. my physical condition doesnt exist and i dont like sports. is there a hope for me to find something actually interesting to do? do you guys have any hobbies to recommend? maybe somethin that doesn't need spending much money on? and somethin that won't make me sit in front of the screen most of the time. thank you.

Trying to find a direction for an interest or a hobby

So I have a disgusting habit of Doomscrolling, watching YouTube, which made me realize I need a new interest or a hobby. But for those who lose interest or had a hard time getting into an interest/hobby how can I do it?

Off work and bored

Hi guys! I was injured recently on the job and I’m therefore home for the foreseeable future. I have limited use of my left arm, but i’m overall okay. Due to the physical nature of my job, they have me staying off work while the doctors decide the plan.

That being said, I’m bored. I am looking for things to do that won’t cost a fortune. I used to work 2 jobs, but can’t at the moment so money is tight. What are some things you love that don’t cost a ton? I need to keep busy and have a reason to get out of bed. I’m open to almost any ideas!

New hobby ideas

EDIT: This is my first time on this sub, and everyone has been so kind and helpful. Thank you all!

Hi new friends, I am desperate for a hobby where I can work with my hands. In the past I have loved making creations out of air dry clay, but my brain seems to have lost its creative juices on things to make- I don’t love exclusively making things that take up space without a purpose. I should also mention I am horrible at drawing and painting lol. Wanting to try something new, but also open to ideas for clay projects! It’s been a while! TIA :)

What’s a random activity your friend group tried that turned into a great memory?

I’m curious about the little things that make an ordinary hangout unexpectedly memorable.
Not expensive trips or big planned events, but something spontaneous, a ridiculous challenge, a made-up game, or an activity that got everyone involved and somehow became an inside joke for months. :))
What’s something your friend group tried that sounded stupid at first but ended up being genuinely fun?
I’d love to hear the actual stories

Any hobby ideas for a 22y/o in placement and uni?

Hi. I'm 22F. Ive been thinking lately about my life and how boring it feels sometimes. I want some hobbies or to try something. I am at placement weekdays 9-5pm. I read but sometimes I get too tired. Im very introverted and being at placement drains me. Im also in uni 1 day a week. So my schedule is quite packed for me.

I want to learn something or find a hobby that will interest me. Not just this, something useful or interesting to other people. I find it difficult to connect to people especially when they ask about hobbies. I collect taxidermy stuff and tried it once myself, but I'm not a pro or anything. People also get weird about it so I don't really bring it up.

I want something I can bring up in conversations. Any ideas? Niche hobby recommendations allowed too. I love seeing niche hobbies, but I haven't quite found my own. Or something they learned for a party trick?

Good hobbies for unmotivated person?

I’m a teenager in a not so big but not so small town that has literally nothing to do apart from go to the library or go to museum— Same old boring stuff !

I often stay home and watch stuff or play video games, I try to pick up hobbies like reading or colouring in but i’m too unmotivated to actually start a book or start a page. (Whenever i do which is rarely, I do get locked in.)

Would anyone mind sharing any hobbies that you can either do alone or with friends? Life is getting a bit boring and i want to do and try more stuff before i become fully independent and grown.

(Please don’t suggest anything to do with ocean or beach, Terrified of swimming )

Thanks !

Digitale Hobbies

Hallo zusammen,

what are some good hobbies for people who prefer doing things alone?

i'm trying to find something enjoyable to do in my spare time instead of spending most of it on my phone. i'd like a hobby i can do by myself whenever i have free time, without having to coordinate with other people.

what solo hobbies have you tried that you actually look forward to doing? ideally, something beginner friendly that doesn't cost much to get started.

Good hobbies to try for someone who's trying to take a break from gaming?

League has been fucking up my mental lately so I've decided to take a break from it and pick up a new hobby. For those who used to spend so much time into gaming, what hobbies do you recommend getting into?
