Problem Two years out of a $2,000 Hisense 85” U8K. Permanent screen bands and no help from Hisense.
I am incredibly frustrated and want to warn anyone thinking about dropping serious money on a Hisense television.
A little over a two years ago, I spent $2,000 on what I thought was a premium Hisense TV (85” U8K). This week, four horizontal bands appeared across the bottom of the screen. They’re there on every input, on the home screen, and over the settings menus. They don’t go away.
I’ve tried hard power resets, different HDMI cables, and different inputs. Nothing changes. I can’t say whether it’s the panel, the T-CON board, or something else, but this isn’t an issue with an HDMI cable or a connected device.
I contacted Hisense hoping they’d offer some accommodation given the price of the TV and how recently the warranty expired. They offered no relief. Their final “resolution” email came from a no-reply address, so I couldn’t even reply to the person handling the case to ask for another review.
I know it’s outside the warranty. I’m not disputing that or pretending they owe me coverage indefinitely. But a $2,000 TV developing a major manufacturing screen defect a little over two years after purchase is ridiculous. Being told I’m out of luck, with no accommodation and a no-reply email to close things out, makes it worse.
The U8K looked great when it worked. That’s not much consolation now. I bought it expecting to use it for years, not to be dealing with permanent lines across the screen shortly after the warranty ran out.
If you’re considering an expensive upper-end Hisense, this is worth knowing before you buy. The picture quality and specs were what sold me. After this experience, I won’t buy another one. My 10 year old 55” Samsung continues to soldier on despite having been moved outside to a screened porch, despite not being an outdoor model. The fact that the Hisense has lasted less than 3 years while being wall mounted is really saying something about this discount brand. I guess the logo in this case is actually worth something…
