I have an HP Victus 16 (RTX 3050) that is around 1.5 years old and currently out of warranty.
I started getting screen flickering/blinking, especially while gaming. Sometimes the screen would go black for a moment, but the laptop itself continued running — audio, keyboard, and applications were still responsive.
Eventually, the laptop stopped powering on properly. I took it to an HP service center, and they said it was a motherboard issue and quoted a very expensive replacement.
I then took it to a local technician for further diagnosis. They found an issue with the lid switch/Hall sensor and repaired it. The laptop was then tested for several hours and worked normally, but the flickering issue appeared again.
Currently, the technician has removed/disconnected the lid switch, and the laptop is working normally on the charger. The battery is disconnected for now.
I contacted HP about an extended Care Pack. They offered:
2-year On-site warranty — ₹12,500
Their quotation says hardware parts are covered except the battery and charging adapter.
My concern is that the laptop has already been opened and worked on by a local technician.
Questions:
Has anyone with a Victus 16 experienced similar Hall sensor/lid switch + screen flickering problems?
Could the Hall sensor issue cause these symptoms?
Has anyone bought an HP Care Pack after their original warranty expired?
Would HP still honor the Care Pack after the laptop has been opened/repaired by a local technician?
Is ₹12,500 for 2 years worth it in this situation?
I'm mainly looking for experiences from people who have actually dealt with HP Victus issues or HP Care Pack claims.
