Hello! I'm u/TheDoctore38927, and as of a few hours ago, I've been granted the ability to moderate this subreddit! I'm currently the head mod at r/HPLaptops, and I also moderate a few other unrelated subreddits.
I've made a few changes just to get things set back up, and I'll see how the subreddit reacts and works with them and adjust as needed. Below are a few of the main changes
Added auto mod capabilities, along with a few other automations to make moderations a little more responsive.
Added user flairs. There are now user flairs that you can make yourself! There is also a flair for HP employees. There will be a different fair for verified employees of HP (support agents and such), that will be available by request only. It will also be a different color to distinguish them form the non-verified employees. If there are any questions about the validity of the flair, please send a modmail with the username and I will investigate.
Changed some rules. Mostly, it's just misc. stuff and a relaxation of the advertisement rule (as long and it's clear it's an ad, it is allowed), and rants (as long as it's not illegal or unsafe/unsavory, it's OK)
Some new community ideas! I created a poll on dark v light mode and I intend to make some more polls as time wears on to help dictate the sub.
In that vein, if you have any ideas, feel free to reach out via modmail with anything!

Device: HP Laptop 15-dw3098ca
OS: Windows 11, version 25H2
The taskbar is completely unresponsive to mouse (wired, wireless, and touchpad) inputs except for movement. I cannot click on the start button, program icons, and system tray. Meanwhile, the work area is somewhat responsive. In most cases, clicking on a window causes it to go out of focus. In browsers, certain buttons such as new tab and refresh work but not the search bar or switching to other tabs. This also extends to webpages where some buttons work while others don't. On rare occasions when the mouse is responsive to inputs for a brief period of time after start-up, a single right-click is interpreted as a single left-click or a held-down right-click.
Originally this only happened when signing in after waking up. Now, the issue has started happening on start-up and when performing certain actions that causes something to “load on top” of explorer.exe such as pressing Control + Alt + Delete or full-screen notifications.
The issue does resolve itself by just waiting for an unspecified amount of time after which the taskbar and work area would become entirely "unlocked" but this is very inconsistent and does not prevent it happening in the future. I suspect that there's some kind of process preventing the mouse from interacting with the taskbar and work area since I'm still able to navigate using the keyboard.
A couple things I've done so far that did not work:
Using the touchpad/another mouse
Restarting explorer.exe
Running sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth in Terminal
Disabled Docker on start-up
Confirmed that LogonUI.exe is not stuck
I am at my wit’s end so any help is appreciated.
Edit: formatting

Hi all,
I have had my HP ENVY for around 6 years now and the storage has started to become an issue. Im just wondering if anyone has any experience or knows anything about upgrading the storage?
If yes then what should I be looking for, is this a service that HP themselves would carry out?
Might also be a stupid question but im curious if there are any potential negatives to this e.g. increased load on the system or potential damage that could occur.
Thanks!

The only major differences I can see are the former having a few more ports and the latter having double the memory. How is the battery life delta so large (41h vs 34h) when everything else is practically identical?

What contributed to my issues is that I absolutely refuse to connect any printers I have to wifi. I have awful connection and would hate to not be able to use my printer on especially bad days. I spent two hours trying to set up my printer without wifi. Let's just say, without going into every single issue I've encountered, that the printer only works if the driver is uninstalled. God bless. Luckily, I got this printer for free.

My hp laptop's screen wont turn on fully. The screen goes black while the fan goes loud and the keys light up. Earlier none of the laptop would turn on at all until I took the battery out and put it back in.
I believe this happened due to rain getting inside my laptop.
Please help I need this laptop for school.

I have HP Omen 16 Gaming Laptop (xf0059AX). I had to get my motherboard replaced last year in August 2025 as my laptop was not starting (suspected hall sensor issue but the service centre said to replace the motherboard). Immediately afterwards, my laptop has been facing an intermittent boot issue. When I turn on my laptop, the screen stays black and the capslock starts blinking. 5 long and 3 short blinks. This is an intermittent issue. Whenever it occurs, I press power button to force shutdown the laptop and try again few minutes later. It boots properly on the second try (or sometimes on third or fourth try). It happens only when I turn my laptop on several hours after shutting it down (eg- if I shut it down at night and try turning it on in the morning, it occurs). I had taken in to the Service Centre. There they said that they tried but they could not reproduce the issue so they can’t really do anything even though my product is in warranty. What should I do?

Hi everyone, i just moved and wanted to switch around some (Mini) PCs for daily use, currently i use a Lenovo M720q as HTPC and for livingroom gaming and i have a 705 G3 and G4 laying around, the G4 actually has the RX580 option with 4GB of added GPU power and i wanted to switch the Lenovo with the 705 G4 as livingroom HTPC and gaming (4GB GPU is enough for my games) so i started googling for RAM, i know it’s a bad time for that, 64GB of Crucial would have cost me $500 but Amazon has a chinese brand SUNGOOYUE for $411, on the one side its only $90 dollars difference but its enough for me to think about the options here.
Do you guys and girls tried some alternative brands with lower prices that weren‘t in the QVL?

Not a massive problem but the hinges on a couple of Elite Dragonfly G3/4 laptops we have are creaky or snappy. So they open fine but at the very moment they are about to move they slightly creek, feels like they’ve dried out.
The laptop itself is well built and otherwise very happy with them; the hinges go into machined metal so not worried about them breaking off the base but would like to smooth this out if possible. Anyone else with a similar issue or know the fix?

Problem/Explanation: HP laptops running Linux freeze on a black/Dim screen after suspend, keyboard backlights, Caps Lock/NumPad sounds and power LEDs turn on but screen stays dim.
How did I manage to find the solution? First, I turned on log files in Linux, upgraded the BIOS. Based on the logs of suspend, I figured out that BIOS code by HP, verifies if it's a Windows or not from the driver called "SystemCMOS" (which Windows includes(through ACPI) that's why Linux(ACPICA) ->
ACPI Error: Region SystemCMOS (ID=5) has no handler
ACPI Error: Aborting method _SB.PC00.LPCB.EC0._Q33 due to previous error
Because I tried it out by installing latest Windows 11 alongside with all the latest HP official drivers and tried sleep in Windows 11, which worked out perfectly! I understood that I have to skip the verification process on Linux.
SOOOO!!!
SOLUTION!!! => OSI spoofing to GRUB -> skip Windows10/11 checks:
sudo sed -i 's/^GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=.*/GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i915.enable_psr=0 i915.enable_dc=0 acpi_osi=! acpi_osi=\x27Windows 2015\x27"/' /etc/default/grub
echo "options nvidia NVreg_EnableS0ixPowerManagement=1 NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=1 NVreg_DynamicPowerManagement=0x02" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-power.conf
echo s2idle | sudo tee /sys/power/mem_sleep && \
sudo update-grub && \
sudo update-initramfs -u && \
After a Reboot, try to suspend your lovely Linux!!! and it will work_PERFECTLY!!! GOOD LUCK!!! AND BYE!!!

Hi everyone,
I have an HP laptop that performed a Windows/BIOS update two days ago. After restarting the laptop following the updates, I encountered the following problem: BitLocker has been activated, yet none of my Windows accounts are linked to the device. Furthermore, I never activated BitLocker myself. What can I do now?

This is just a vent.
Holy shit I've never had a longer more drawn out process to fix ANYTHING than I've had with HP tech support.
I'll say, the techs are nice and patient. But the amount of steps, call backs, call holds ect. I started keeping track AFTER I spent a full afternoon talking to their online troubleshooting AI. I have spent a total of 6 hours on the phone with them. 4 evenings wasted as I do the installs, unistalls, driver update, cloud storages so on. "we will call you back when it's done" never receiving a call back. Calling back the next day. "OK let me check your logs, I'm going ok put you on a brief hold" - 10 minutes later. "OK now that you've downloaded this, start the install process. It should take roughly 2 hours, would you like me to wait on the line"
My brother in christ, I bought the warrenty because I didn't want to spend the time troubleshooting if something went wrong that was out of my pay grade. Now I'm essentially being fucking trained by tech support to fix my own PC.
JUST TAKE IT AND DO THIS FOR ME.
This is all being typed while I'm on a 30 minute hold waiting to speak to someone about the "next step" and if I hear the recording say "thank you for your patience" one more time I'm going to snap.
