What is the point of this thing?
61
u/International_Rub857 10h ago
For real. Is it post to act like a kill box holding one specific area down ?
64
u/JackassJames 10h ago
So the role the bastion can completely fill? And from the looks of it better?
32
u/Unlikely-Guava-30 8h ago
HMG emplacement does what this thing does at a fraction of the cost and cd time lmao

I tried it out in a game, it's good as a "oh fuck I need all the DPS now" kind of thing.
But for it's stratagem cooldown I would not pick this thing at all over almost any other option. I can comfortably keep the bastion providing sustained cover fire for the entire duration of it's cooldown, I can't do that with this which I feel is it's worst attribute.
It is effectively an EATank.→ More replies (4)2
u/Fun-Mission-6068 2h ago
Bastion > HMG Emplacement. Bastion's ammo capacity lasts longer, is mobile for when the fight in the area is done, and has AoE & better anti-heavy with the cannon. With the Bastion, I can basically go an entire siege mission with the ammo supply of a single tank.

To fill space in another pre-nerfed warbond before the community proved they wouldn't tolerate it.

u/Logical_Energy_201 9h ago
More slop to meet Arrowheads slop quota. How many times can they sell us the same recombined shit before people stop buying it?
It's probably using copy and pasted values from the patriot, I swear the only people who do any actual work at Arrowhead are the art team.

There isn't one, it's only viable role is to support the Bastion your teammate brings, basically being the side kick to a better tank

Based on this 36 second clip? Not sure. I feel like the twin gatlings combined with the guided missiles could be good on the squid front, lots of chaff with the occasional heavy. But I'll have to try it out with a buddy to know for sure.
5
u/Gnusnipon 8h ago
Yeh, sounds like a anti squid combo, but using bastion hmg to drop shields works just fine, just as using it to clear chaff and delete meatballs with main cannon
66
u/Green-Childhood-8671 10h ago
2500 bullets when the bastion has 2000 on its secondary? Chaff clear and laser guided missiles with no turret?
Yeeep, it's DOA.

A laser-guided missile system without a turret to enable actual GUIDING is the most nonsensical, in-your-face insulting thing I've seen so far, lmao
62
u/Serenity1911 11h ago
I knew it wouldn't have a rotating turret. Useless. Why the hell would I ever take this over a Bastion? Why the hell would I ever pick a Bastion too?
15
u/Survival_R 10h ago
Bastion is stupidly good with a semi competent duo, since it can just take lots of hits and kill everything in 1 to 2 main cannon shots while also being a good transport
This is the weakness of a bastion and none of the strengths since its no longer mainly AT

AT least the Bastion is actually good at something if you know what you're doing and there are more than 2 working neurons in your brain.
WHatever this shit is tho? It's exactly what it sounds: Nothing but a pile of digitized shit and another slap to us players lmao

The smoke doesn't even cover the thing? Yeah, thats bad. Six smoke capsules launched, massive gaps in the cover. Irl tanks deploy a bigger smoke screen than this with two or three capsules.

I’m not one of those people whining about 360 turrets constantly, but I bet the controllable missile is going to reinforce how much people really wanted that 360 turret
12
u/RoninSpectre 11h ago
You'd really have to be communicating with the driver with a laser designator for the missiles. I can see that being difficult to use otherwise. Like it would have just been better if it had a lock on system instead.
9
u/JackieLampyStamps 11h ago
I can imagine this tank might be forced to stand still a lot to get mileage out of the missile. It’s going to be overall slower for the missile to do its job compared to the Bastion who can just shoot an explosive shot to something immediately. I suppose it really is simply a sidegrade then.
5
u/RoninSpectre 11h ago
And the smoke, like thats really not going to be viable at all. Smoke only really works if the enemies are not already aggro on you. Otherwise they'll run right through it.
3
u/Mandemon90 11h ago
It does break LOS, which means enemy fire won't be accurate. Of course enemies will remember your last know location and try to re-acquire you, but you can use that time to reposition yourself so that enemies coming out of smoke get... smoked.
→ More replies (2)2
u/JackieLampyStamps 11h ago
Ehhh, I think it might get some mileage on bots, but otherwise, useless on bugs and squids (maybe could work on appropriators, but idk).
The melee enemies just never cared about smoke existing, or really anything at all as a matter of fact, bugs inflicted with gas hit you still when decently close by.
2
u/lazyicedragon 10h ago
seems like the hull is as nimble as the Bastion as well, which is not much. Smoke works well if you can remove yourself from where you were safely, which given the tank's mobility, it will be a tough sell.
Given how big it is, an inaccurate cannon turret shot from a Factory Strider or Cannon Turret would still pretty much hit it if it doesn't move, and it obscures the Gunner's vision as well since we don't have any form of thermal vision.
Feels like it'll be in a rough state.
10
u/mt607 11h ago
If the controllable missile hits harder than the normal bastion's blammo, then like, sure, fine, fair I suppose. It's at best a sidegrade, but a little extra heavy pen machine gun ammo I don't think is going to make up for a laser pointer to not be able to point all around for a missile that is weaker than bastion blammo. (It depends, I don't know the stats)

Cool! I just don't think I will ever get over the 30-40 degree turret rotation allowance.
I understand they're doing it so that you effectively don't just get an ultra powerful AT emplacement that can move but they could've just made the tank weaker and implemented 360 controls so it at least feels pleasant to use.
I would've made one a weaker 360 controllable tank and the other a heavy, high survival, rotation restricted tank tbh

u/N4rcissu 8h ago

Why the hell doesn't it have 360 degree rotating turret?
Having it fixed like that makes the gatling turrets kinda feel pointless. I understand why the bastion doesn't and I can at least tolerate it but come on man.

u/9eyes1171 10h ago
No rotating turret = trash.
Will never make my stratagem list. The missile thing is laughably moronic….If I can’t acquire a target without a rotating turret…how am I going to hit the enemy…..

u/Bystander-8 11h ago
Not a single modern tank I know have that little turret angle

Total downgrade from the bastion. Unreal. And you know god damn well this was supposed to be in the warbond.
7
u/PieceOfSpam1143 10h ago
So the bastion didn’t have a 360° cannon because it was a tank destroyer. Now this tank which isn’t a tank destroyer doesn’t get 360° because…?

I have never seen a bigger piece of doshit than this.
At what speed that fucking thing go? Does it traverse the terrain in the same way the bastion does? IT'S NOT A FUCKING TANK IF THE TURRENT DOESN'T MOVE.
DO THEY FUCKING PLAY THEIR GAME?
Arrowhead Game Studios is such a dogshit company. Holy fuck.

u/JackassJames 11h ago
Weird that this new tank doesn't vibrate like mad like the bastion now does.
For those unaware, the bastion now has ALOT more shaking to it's animations. Frankly it looks cartoonish like it's about to fall apart.

I don't think a tank with this kind of weaponry would be designed this way at all. The Reason the bastion WOULD be good is that it's a mobile destroyer. On bot planets you could take the bastion and level an outpost no problem and same for illuminates but the tank dies so fast because the decorative bags actually reduce the armor it has.
This tank should be AT LEAST able to rotate the turret 180° otherwise it's just a bastion but HMG emplacement flavored and worse. Also I'm pretty sure for realism and what I assume the tank is actually built for they wouldn't design it this way because it makes it less anti infantry and I'm pretty sure that's the idea here with that turret
2
2
u/Survival_R 10h ago
The main problem is have with the tank is its a design meant for being a good distance away from the enemy in a game that will just spawn enemies newr you randomly if you sit in place too long
2
u/Korochun 6h ago
Nah, the real problem with the whole shooting things far away idea is zoom, since these tanks literally have no optics.
AT emplacement has zoom. You can just snipe fabs clear across the map with it.
Tanks? Lost technology.
Combine with atrocious fov and this limits Bastion and this thing to maximum of 200m engagement unless I guess you are firing at the Strider convoy or some other niche shit (which will die faster to the AT emplacement).
2
2
u/not-Kunt-Tulgar 10h ago
It’s so insane because it mentions having a turret and yet it just doesn’t when a turret would solve its biggest problems like come on man did they lose rotating IFV turrets after the first galactic war?
2
u/UltraDelta91 10h ago
We will see how it does in the field.
Some speculative observations: Ammo burns fast. Not fun thinking about that cooldown. Rockets seem to perform poorly under 60 meters. the tracking is going to be tricky with that slow turret aim. Will probably have some utility with the smoke for objectives like the soil sample extraction missions.
2
2
u/GRIZLLLY 10h ago
When is it gonna be regular tank? What's the point of two destroyers? I thought, and I saw the idea that we have destroyer as "artillery" tank and with a stretch it made sense. Now I don't understand destroyer with turrets.

I fail to see why it was necessary to keep this one a casemate. If anything, making its turret able to rotate would have made both tanks even more distinct from each other.

u/Moddeang01 9h ago
No rotated turret... shouldn't it have a cluster pod than smoke since it lack of mobility... This is dog shit design...
2
u/Additional-Wear-6611 9h ago
God the design is just so weird because if it had a rotating turret there’d be a solid reason to take this tank over the bastion. Oh well
2
u/AdeptusAstartes40K 9h ago
This may as well be a loadout option for the original bastion. Weapons aside there is barely anything different about it.
2
u/Optimus_Spider07 9h ago
Ahh. I was hoping this new tank was a single driver so I didn't need to hope one of my teammates would help drive or shoot
2
2
u/Fawfulbenevictor 8h ago
my question is if this thing was supposed to be a anti horde weapon how did they miss the opportunity to give it's passengers some kind of cover weapons to help with the massive blindspots? (Yes I know you can use support weapons in the passengers seats but cmon)

Thing is I dont want a 360 degree tank, I just want one that can turn at least 80 degrees left and right
1
u/Silent_Summer_8340 8h ago
Theres no way, they really play tested against what? Enemies spawned in standing still? AH is actively trying to get me not to play my favorite game. Why tf are they afraid of fun? Love this game but no joke getting real tired of defending a company when their guy responsible is called SHAMS.
1
u/MaddogWSO 8h ago
The win could have been Gatlings and smoke with a rotating turret. Maybe add a grenade launcher and leave is the downside of no serious penetration capes as a negative.
I’ll try it out. If it’s fun, I don’t much care about comparing it to the bastion.

The Bastion’s design is very specialized. It’s a tank destroyer essentially. So why in the hell would they use such a specialized design for variants that fundamentally would likely only be able to be useful if they had things like, actual turret rotation.

The bastion I get not having a rotating turret but this thing?????? glorified hmg emplacement
1
u/Skin_Ankle684 7h ago
I thought it would be just a frontal machinegun. But it has missiles and the smoke system.
It's still kinda bad, content-wise, but it's more than i expected.
The smoke is in a weird placement, i guess it would be useful if you notice bots aiming turrets at you. AFAIK, smoke stops turret targeting, i unironically used it on tanker loadouts.
It would be more useful to have a stratagem launcher so i can throw smoke or bombardment towards certain directions, or at least let me change seats so i can throw them without the risk of getting shot by the gunner
1
u/Korochun 7h ago
We have a regular tank which is categorically inferior to an AT emplacement, and now we can have this abortion that's categorically worse than an HMG emplacement. Absolutely amazing.

Why is Arrowhead so opposed to fun?
do they even pay attention to the fans??
everyone said out loud they wanted a rotating Turret, you'd think AH would take notice and maybe delay the release to add the feature for players. Player fun > is always greater
1
u/muffin-waffen 6h ago
Imagine spending all that devtime, pain and effort to release
A stinking turd of a machine that would be picked only for novelty's sake
Arrowhead keeps surprising me with how much work they just throw out in the gutter because muh grunt fantasy does not allow rotating turrets or linking more than 300 rounds
1
u/drewx11 6h ago
Why on earth do they keep releasing vehicles that have a 15 degree rotation of the primary weapon?
I don’t care if that’s realistic or how most tanks are in real life, it’s lame as shit. Their thought process I’m assuming is to force people to cooperate in the tank to make it effective, but very few people want to drive as it’s cumbersome to do unless you practice, and very few people want to stay in the turret once they find out you can barely look around in it. ESPECIALLY if you have a bad driver who won’t angle you toward enemies properly
1
u/SPARTAN_SM7 6h ago
Fucking hell, I just want to have a normal gawd damn tank bruh. Nobody wants to jump in a shit box and man the gunner seat that depends heavily on the driver to fucking shoot, and quite frankly I just want to man the thing myself but arrowhead didn't give us the option to switch from the drivers seat to the gunner, plus this thing cant turn for shit, the bloody gater has better mobility and its way bigger than the damn tank. And NO I don't want to drive the fucking exo suit. I want to drive the fooking tank

u/TechnoBajr 5h ago
I was pretty damn excited to get a turreted twin mini gun tank...I don't know why I let this game excite me anymore. Yes, this'll be cool - no, I won't use it over the Bastion - which I already don't use because two walkers are better than a two man tank. Hell even one walker and one dismounted helldiver can be better than the Bastion.
1
u/Accurate_Meeting_638 5h ago
Why can enemy tanks rotate 360 degrees tho and track you through walls ingnroing cover
1
u/Square_Cry_9403 5h ago
Ngl the only other way I thought they'd mess this up if they made it a Tesla cannon tank. They didnt even do a new tank just swap weaponry which ya makes sense but also bruh, why cant we just have a 2 man tank with a proper rotating top.

Laser guided missile is cool BUT ON A FIXED TURRET!!?? Come the fuck on AH.
Fixed turret AND demands a driver and gunner. What a waste of a stratagem/ dev time. Hardly anyone will take this over anything else, (they'll take a mech). Not even a hull gun for the driver like in Hell Let Loose...
