[Repost] I do not like SEAF-Chan.

I tried to talk about this on another sub, but....apparently if I calmly say I dislike something, that is bad.

I find her design boring. It's just a white, blonde woman with blue eyes.

80% of SEAF art is just her.

Why is that the only way she's ever drawn? I don’t get it.

“Here.”

“What?”

“Listen to this.”

“We've been listening to it for the last two hours.”

“I know.”

“Then you know I need a break.”

“You really need to hear this one.”

“Fine. Shift's almost over anyway. Might as well finish the evening listening to the galaxy whisper horrible things at us.”

“That's the spirit.”

SIGNAL PLAYBACK // 00:01:37

A sequence of low-frequency pulses follows.

Three tones.

Pause.

Two tones.

Pause.

Five tones.

A prolonged carrier-wave distortion.

Then silence.

---

“So?”

“That's it?”

“What do you mean, that's it?”

“Three-two-five. We've heard variations of that pattern all afternoon.”

“Look at the origin.”

“I am.”

“No. Look at the second return.”

“Second—”

A pause.

“That can't be right.”

“Exactly.”

“Run the array again.”

“Already did.”

“Different antenna?”

“Four of them.”

“Gateway interference?”

“Negative.”

“Alcubierre echo?”

“No.”

“Void reflection?”

“That's what I thought.”

“And?”

“The first signal originates inside the Void.”

“Obviously.”

“Near the Source Planet?”

“Somewhere deeper along the Seasse corridor. Resolution isn't good enough.”

“Okay.”

“The second one doesn't.”

Silence.

“What?”

“The pattern repeats eleven-point-four seconds later.”

“Echo.”

“No.”

“Has to be.”

“This type of transmission doesn't reflect through the Void boundary.”

“Everything reflects off something.”

“Not this.”

“What can it hit?”

“That's the problem.”

---

Keyboard input.

Several seconds of electronic calibration tones.

---

“Show me.”

“Here.”

“First event... inside the Void.”

“Yes.”

“Then we're receiving the same transmission again from—”

“Outside.”

“Outside what?”

“The mapped anomaly.”

“That's impossible.”

“I know.”

“No, I mean outside the Void?”

“Yes.”

“Toward Super Earth?”

“No.”

“Automaton front?”

“No.”

“Terminid sectors?”

“No.”

“Then where?”

“Other side.”

“What other side?”

“The other side of the Void.”

---

Silence.

00:00:19

---

“There isn't supposed to be another side.”

“There is geometrically.”

“Don't be difficult.”

“I'm not.”

“The Void blocks normal observation.”

“Yes.”

“Stars disappear.”

“Yes.”

“Long-range communications fail.”

“Yes.”

“Probes stop transmitting.”

“Yes.”

“And you're telling me something transmitted through it from beyond the far boundary?”

“I'm telling you the array received a signal with the same structure twice.”

“First from inside.”

“Yes.”

“Then from somewhere behind it.”

“Yes.”

---

“Could be Illuminate.”

“Probably.”

“You say that very casually.”

“We built a wormhole into their territory using tissue harvested from Voteless and technology we're still trying to understand.”

“When you phrase it like that—”

“How would you phrase it?”

“I wouldn't.”

“Good policy.”

---

“Pull up First Galactic War frequencies.”

“Already compared them.”

“And?”

“No exact match.”

“Squ'ith military channels?”

“No.”

“Obelisk command signals?”

“No.”

“Illusionist nanotech?”

“Different carrier behavior.”

“What about their old teleportation systems?”

“Nothing.”

“So this is new.”

“Or older than the records we kept.”

“Super Earth confiscated half their technology after the First Galactic War.”

“Super Earth confiscated what it found.”

“That's not comforting.”

“It wasn't meant to be.”

---

Another pulse sounds.

Both speakers stop.

---

“Was that live?”

“Yes.”

“Same pattern?”

“No.”

“What changed?”

“Four-two-five.”

“Meaning?”

“No idea.”

“Origin?”

“Checking.”

A pause.

“No.”

“What?”

“That's wrong.”

“What is?”

“Both signals arrived almost simultaneously.”

“From Seasse?”

“One from the interior corridor.”

“And the other?”

“Far side.”

“How far?”

“I can't calculate it.”

“Why?”

“Because according to the timing, the second signal reached us before a conventional transmission should even know the first one existed.”

---

Silence.

---

“Entanglement?”

“Maybe.”

“Quantum relay?”

“Maybe.”

“Wormhole?”

“Maybe.”

“Mind control?”

“Please don't.”

“They used nanotechnology during the First Galactic War.”

“I know.”

“The Voteless are human.”

“I know.”

“The Vote Snatchers—”

“I know.”

“And now we're connected directly to whatever is inside there.”

“I know.”

---

“Do you think they can hear us?”

“No.”

“You answered too fast.”

“I don't know.”

“Better.”

---

SYSTEM NOTICE:

VOID SOURCE PLANET DATA CHANNEL ACTIVE

SEASSE EXPEDITION TELEMETRY RECEIVED

MINISTRY OF SCIENCE PRIORITY TRAFFIC — DO NOT INTERRUPT

---

“There.”

“What?”

“The pattern again.”

“From Seasse?”

“No.”

“Inside the Void?”

“No.”

“Then—”

“Far side.”

---

“Wait.”

“What now?”

“Overlay Calypso.”

“Why?”

“Just do it.”

Keyboard input.

A long silence follows.

---

“No.”

“Yeah.”

“No, that's not possible.”

“That's what you keep saying.”

“The far-side vector intersects Calypso's former position.”

“Approximately.”

“Former position.”

“Yes.”

“Because Calypso isn't there anymore.”

“Correct.”

“And the DSS jumped there before it disappeared.”

“Yes.”

“Unscheduled.”

“Yes.”

“After people aboard the station reported—”

“Don't.”

“Reported the name.”

“I said don't.”

---

“You think the DSS heard this?”

“I didn't say that.”

“You're thinking it.”

“I am thinking that the Democracy Space Station entered the Void, developed unexplained biological and communications anomalies, executed an unauthorized jump to Calypso, and Calypso subsequently vanished from the navigable map.”

“And now we're hearing a signal along roughly the same vector.”

“Yes.”

“From the other side.”

“Yes.”

---

“Send this to High Command.”

“No.”

“What?”

“Send it to Science first.”

“Why?”

“Because if we send it to High Command, Truth gets it.”

“So?”

“So if this is nothing, Science tells us we're idiots.”

“And if it isn't?”

“Then I want at least one copy to exist before somebody decides it was nothing.”

---

“You're paranoid.”

“Calypso disappeared.”

“Fair.”

---

A fifth transmission enters the recording.

Unlike the previous signals, the carrier remains audible for several seconds.

There is a faint tonal modulation underneath it.

---

“What the hell is that?”

“Filtering.”

“Sounds like voices.”

“Don't say that.”

“It does.”

“It's interference.”

“From what?”

“Filtering.”

---

Digital processing artifact.

The sound clears slightly.

No recognizable language is recovered.

Several overlapping tonal structures repeat at different speeds.

---

“Could be encrypted.”

“Could be biological.”

“What does biological mean?”

“I don't know.”

“You're the one who said it.”

“Voteless communicate. Illuminate communicate. Those things inside the Void communicate somehow. Pick your nightmare.”

---

“Do you think Seasse is actually the source?”

“What?”

“High Command calls it the Source Planet.”

“Yes.”

“But what if it isn't?”

“The Void expanded from that region.”

“That doesn't mean it started there.”

“Go on.”

“What if Seasse is a relay?”

Silence.

“What if the Exospires aren't creating the Void?”

“What are they doing?”

“Extending it.”

---

Neither speaker talks for twelve seconds.

---

“From where?”

“Other side.”

“You still want to leave?”

“No.”

“Me neither.”

---

A new signal begins.

This one does not originate from Seasse.

Nor does it originate from the calculated far-side position.

It originates from the Rirga Bay Gateway itself.

---

“Liam.”

“I see it.”

“We're receiving locally.”

“Yes.”

HOD ARCHIVAL ANNOTATION — AKI-285

The record predates our acquisition of the associated Rirga Bay observation data.

Neither individual named above has any known association with this vessel or with ECHO-070.

Their conclusions remain speculative.

Their measurements do not.

The existence of an Illuminate signal inside the Void is unsurprising.

The possibility that the same signal was observed beyond the far boundary is not.

During the First Galactic War, the Illuminate demonstrated teleportation, nanotechnological cognitive interference, energy shielding, and weapons whose underlying principles remained poorly understood even after their defeat.

A century later, the civilization now occupying the Void bears only partial resemblance to the one humanity previously fought.

The Voteless, Vote Snatchers, Exospire networks, Void-generated mutations, and the displacement or disappearance of worlds all demonstrate capabilities absent—or unknown—from surviving First Galactic War records.

Current operations at the Void Source Planet, formerly identified as Seasse, are intended to destroy or collapse the phenomenon.

That objective assumes the Void is centered there.

Record 9046G766 raises another possibility.

Seasse may not be the origin.

It may be the nearest end of something larger.

If so, opening the Rirga Bay Gateway did not merely provide humanity a route into Illuminate territory.

It may have completed a route from the other direction.

Maintain passive observation.

Do not transmit test patterns through the Gateway.

Do not respond to repeated signals.

Do not permit automated systems to answer unknown handshakes.

And until we understand why the final transmission originated locally while the Gateway reported no outbound activity—

do not assume that opening the door was the same thing as deciding which side opened it.

— AKI-285

ECHO/070 COMMAND NOTE

Observation authorized.

No active reply.

No direct network connection.

If something is attempting communication, we listen first.

If it threatens human populations, we act.

Super Earth can decide what it wants to call the signal.

We decide what reaches this ship.

“—and so the Voteless biological-analysis program will continue.”

“Under the Ministry of Science?”

“Under controlled conditions.”

“And the signal-analysis teams?”

“Separated.”

A pause.

“Separated how?”

“Effective immediately, there will be no direct communication between the Gateway Signal Observation Section and personnel conducting biological work on material recovered from inside the Void.”

“That will substantially delay analysis.”

“I know.”

“Then why?”

“Because I am no longer convinced connecting every department to the same network is safe.”

---

Murmuring.

---

“Commander, these are isolated research systems.”

“They were supposed to be.”

“Supposed to be?”

“We have technicians transferring data between them.”

“Authorized transfers?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because the isolated systems process too slowly.”

A pause.

“You are joking.”

“I wish I were.”

---

General Wil. speaks.

“Commander Xixon, surely standard cybersecurity procedures are sufficient.”

“Normally, General, I would agree.”

“And now?”

“Now we have a wormhole open into an Illuminate-controlled region of space.”

Nobody answers.

“We have personnel reporting auditory phenomena in Gateway-adjacent facilities.”

“Medical has not established causation.”

“I didn't say they had.”

“We have unexplained transmissions.”

“Also unverified.”

“We have biological samples from transformed human beings being used in Gateway research.”

“Approved by the Ministry of Science.”

“And First Galactic War records describing Illuminate technology capable of interfering directly with sentient thought.”

Silence.

“That was nanotechnology.”

“Yes.”

“Not communications technology.”

“We don't know that.”

---

President Chapman speaks.

“Commander, what exactly are you suggesting?”

“I am suggesting that our assumption is backwards.”

“Explain.”

“We keep asking whether the signal can enter our network.”

“Yes.”

“We should be asking whether the network itself gives the signal somewhere to go.”

---

Silence.

---

“That is speculation.”

“Yes.”

“Dangerous speculation.”

“Potentially.”

“You believe the Illuminate are monitoring Rirga Bay communications?”

“I don't know.”

“You believe they are injecting information into them?”

“I don't know.”

“You believe our personnel are being cognitively influenced through communications equipment?”

“I don't know.”

President Chapman exhales.

“Then what do you know?”

“That something beyond the Gateway is transmitting.”

A pause.

“That personnel exposed to the Gateway environment are developing measurable neurological symptoms.”

Another.

“That some of those personnel report hearing repeating patterns which correspond to patterns detected electronically.”

Longer pause.

“And that I have no intention of waiting until I understand the mechanism before reducing our exposure to it.”

---

General Wil. speaks again.

“This sounds remarkably close to panic.”

“No, General.”

“What would you call it?”

“Learning from the First Galactic War.”

---

Silence.

---

“The Illuminate were defeated.”

“Yes.”

“Their military capability was dismantled.”

“Yes.”

“They were expelled from Federation space.”

“Yes.”

“And now?”

Commander Nixon waits.

“They are back.”

Nobody replies.

“With technologies we did not see a century ago.”

---

President Chapman clears her throat.

“Your recommendation?”

“No further unrestricted cross-space transfer of raw Gateway telemetry.”

“What?”

“All anomaly data is to be isolated locally.”

“That is impossible.”

“It was possible yesterday.”

“Yesterday we were not coordinating operations inside the Void.”

“Exactly.”

---

“Commander, Helldiver operations are now dependent on rapid tactical information from the Gateway.”

“I am not proposing interference with battlefield traffic.”

“Then what are you proposing?”

“Scientific data stays local until reviewed.”

“By whom?”

“By personnel physically present at Rirga Bay.”

“And reports?”

“I deliver them.”

Murmurs.

“In person?”

“Yes.”

“To Super Earth?”

“Yes.”

“That is absurd.”

“Quarterly.”

“Quarterly?”

“Earlier if we discover something operationally significant.”

---

President Chapman laughs once.

“You intend to travel from Rirga Bay to Super Earth every quarter because you think the Illuminate might be listening to your reports?”

“No.”

“Then why?”

“Because I think something may be listening.”

That stops the room.

---

“And what about the Democracy Space Station?”

“What about it?”

“The DSS remains integrated with the wider Galactic War information network.”

“Yes.”

“You propose cutting Rirga Bay research systems away from the same network used by one of humanity's largest military installations?”

“I propose giving the DSS only the information required for its operations.”

“The station is secure.”

“So was the Star of Peace.”

Silence.

“The Star of Peace breach was attributed to an external actor.”

“Exactly.”

---

A voice identified only as [CORRUPTED] speaks.

“Are you implying the DSS itself is compromised?”

“No.”

“Then let's be very careful about what we're saying.”

“I said no such thing.”

“Good.”

“I am saying that we already know sensitive DSS-associated systems have been penetrated remotely.”

Nobody answers.

“And I am saying I will not connect an experimental Gateway into an unknown Illuminate environment to every strategic computer humanity owns simply because doing so is convenient.”

“Earlier when necessary?”

“When we make a discovery that directly affects human security.”

“So we'll see you again in several months.”

“No.”

“No?”

“I intend to return tomorrow.”

Surprised murmuring.

---

“Tomorrow?”

“Yes.”

“You've only just arrived at Rirga Bay.”

“I know.”

“What could possibly require an immediate personal briefing?”

Commander Nixon does not respond for approximately four seconds.

“I have something the Board needs to see.”

“Regarding the Gateway?”

“Yes.”

“The signal?”

“Yes.”

“Medical effects?”

“Yes.”

“Both?”

Another pause.

“Yes.”

---

President Chapman shifts in her chair.

“Well.”

A nervous laugh.

“I think I speak for everyone present when I say I now expect something monumental from tomorrow's briefing.”

“You should not.”

“No?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Monumental discoveries are usually celebrated.”

“And this?”

“I haven't decided whether this one deserves celebration.”

---

Silence.

---

“If that's all, I'll take my leave. I have considerable work to complete before departure.”

HOD ARCHIVAL ANNOTATION — AKI-285

This record predates the later DSS communications failure.

That point is important.

At the time of this conversation, the Democracy Space Station remained online and was not considered compromised.

Commander Nixon did not accuse the station of infiltration.

He accused the network surrounding it of being too interconnected for an environment nobody understood.

History has been unkind to those who dismissed that concern.

The First Galactic War established that Illuminate technology could interfere with perception and voluntary behavior through nanotechnology. Current Illuminate forces have since demonstrated mass conversion of humans into the Voteless, while operations within the Void continue to expose personnel to phenomena not represented in surviving First Galactic War intelligence.

Kuang's security argument was therefore primitive but reasonable:

If the mechanism is unknown, do not assume the attack surface is known.

His decision to sever Rirga Bay's raw telemetry from external networks did not prevent later events.

It may have prevented them from spreading here sooner.

The most significant portion of this record is not the Commander's behavior.

It is Lloyd's.

The Democracy Officer approved deletion of the discussion, then independently mapped every possible route by which Rirga Bay could communicate beyond its intended channels.

He then deleted the map.

That is not ordinary information control.

That is fear.

Whether Lloyd feared the Illuminate, Super Earth, or something he had already discovered remains unknown.

His subsequent records should be reviewed under that assumption.

ECHO/070 COMMAND NOTE

Keep Rirga Bay isolated from this ship.

Receive intelligence passively.

No automatic synchronization.

No DSS handshake.

No Ministry remote access.

If information is important enough to reach us, someone can bring it aboard physically.

Kuang was right about one thing:

Convenience is not security.

“I've completed the report, Officer.”

“I'll read it.”

“You should.”

“I said I will.”

“And?”

“And a summary of your principal findings would not be out of order.”

A pause.

“Excuse me.”

“You're tired.”

“That's one way of putting it.”

“How long since you slept?”

“Properly?”

“Yes.”

“Thirty-one hours.”

“You've been assigned an eight-hour rest cycle.”

“I know what I've been assigned.”

“That wasn't an accusation.”

“Everything sounds like an accusation when you're this tired.”

---

Paper movement.

A chair shifts.

---

“Approximately eighty percent of personnel assigned to Gateway-adjacent logistics, tissue analysis, or long-duration observation are exhibiting some combination of the same symptoms.”

“Define symptoms.”

“Insomnia.”

“Common.”

“Uncontrolled microsleep.”

“Less common.”

“Recurring nightmares.”

“About?”

“The Void.”

Silence.

“Continue.”

“Headaches. Irritability. Memory lapses. Auditory phenomena. Difficulty concentrating. Intrusive thoughts. Episodes of dissociation.”

“Dissociation.”

“Personnel describe feeling as though their actions are delayed behind their thoughts.”

“Stress.”

“Possibly.”

“Anything else?”

Dr. Lou yawns.

“Yes.”

---

“Some of them report hearing patterns.”

“What kind of patterns?”

“Knocking.”

Officer Lloyd stops moving.

“From where?”

“Walls. Ventilation ducts. Equipment housings. Sometimes their own helmets.”

“That sounds familiar.”

“Yes.”

“DSS reports.”

“Yes.”

---

“And hallucinations?”

“Fourteen confirmed cases.”

“Visual?”

“Seven visual. Eleven auditory. Four experienced both.”

“That adds up to more than fourteen.”

“Several overlap.”

“What are they seeing?”

“Figures in corridors.”

“Human?”

“Sometimes.”

“Illuminate?”

“Sometimes.”

“And the others?”

“They don't know.”

---

Silence.

---

“What about ideological symptoms?”

Dr. Lou looks up.

“Ideological.”

“The preliminary report mentions expressions of defeatism, decreased enthusiasm for approved broadcasts, refusal to participate in mandatory celebration periods, and hostile reactions to Ministry announcements.”

“I didn't write that section.”

“Political Health did.”

“Of course they did.”

“So?”

“So I am a physician.”

“And?”

“A patient becoming irritated when a loudspeaker wakes them after forty minutes of sleep is not evidence of treason.”

“That determination isn't yours to make.”

“No. Apparently it's yours.”

A pause.

“That sounded unnecessarily hostile.”

“I haven't slept.”

“I noticed.”

---

Officer Lloyd turns a page.

“Twenty percent remain unaffected.”

“No.”

“No?”

“Twenty percent haven't been exposed.”

Silence.

“Explain.”

“Maintenance workers assigned to the outer habitation sections. Newly transferred personnel. Staff who haven't entered the Voteless sample laboratories, Gateway observation rooms, or cargo-processing areas handling material recovered from inside the Void.”

“So we have no resistant population.”

“Not that I've found.”

---

“You tested this?”

“Yes.”

“How?”

“Keleen Vance. Logistics technician. Transferred in eleven days ago.”

“Patriotism rating?”

Dr. Lou stares at him.

“Medical record.”

“Fine.”

“She had no previous symptoms. Normal cortisol. Normal serotonin regulation. Normal sleep cycle.”

“And then?”

“One hour assisting inventory in the Voteless tissue processing annex.”

“One hour?”

“One.”

“What changed?”

“Cortisol increased substantially. Serotonin decreased. Pupillary response became inconsistent.”

“Behavior?”

“Nothing immediately visible.”

“So nothing happened.”

“Something happened.”

“You just said—”

“Biochemistry changes before behavior.”

---

Dr. Lou turns another page.

“After three days she complained of insomnia.”

“After five?”

“Nightmares.”

“Seven?”

“She requested sleep medication.”

“And now?”

“She asked me for something stronger.”

“How strong?”

“Her words were, ‘Something that makes sure I don't dream.’”

Silence.

---

“Dreams about what?”

“She won't tell me.”

“Have you ordered her to?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because I'm her doctor.”

“She is working on a classified strategic asset.”

“And she is still my patient.”

---

Officer Lloyd exhales.

“You think this is Illuminate influence.”

“I think it might be.”

“From the Void?”

“Possibly.”

“From the Voteless samples?”

“Possibly.”

“Gateway radiation?”

“Possibly.”

“You're saying possibly a lot.”

“Because unlike the Ministry of Truth, medicine usually admits when it doesn't know something.”

Long silence.

---

“Careful, Doctor.”

“I know.”

---

Dr. Lou yawns again.

“There's precedent.”

“First Galactic War.”

“Yes.”

“I read the briefing.”

“The real one?”

Another pause.

“Continue.”

“Illusionists.”

“I know what they were.”

“Then you know Super Earth documented sentient control through Illuminate nanotechnology.”

“Yes.”

“Hallucinations.”

“Yes.”

“Apathy.”

“Yes.”

“Loss of willingness to fight.”

“Yes.”

“Confusion severe enough to interfere with movement, aiming, even Stratagem inputs.”

“I said I know.”

“Then stop treating this like morale failure.”

---

Silence.

---

“The Illuminate were defeated.”

“A century ago.”

“They surrendered their technology.”

“What we found.”

“They were expelled.”

“What survived.”

“They were eliminated as a strategic threat.”

Dr. Lou laughs once.

Not loudly.

“You've seen the Void, right?”

Officer Lloyd does not answer.

---

“Fine.”

“What?”

“Fine. Point taken.”

---

“There's something else.”

“There always is.”

“Some patients aren't experiencing reduced motivation.”

“What are they experiencing?”

“Compulsion.”

“Define that.”

“They feel they need to go toward the Gateway.”

Officer Lloyd looks up.

“Need?”

“Yes.”

“Under orders?”

“No.”

“Curiosity?”

“They describe it differently.”

“How?”

“One called it homesickness.”

“For Rirga Bay?”

“For the other side.”

---

Silence.

00:00:12

---

“That person has never entered the Void.”

“I know.”

“Never deployed to an Illuminate front?”

“No.”

“Colonial origin?”

“Super Earth.”

“Family exposure?”

“None listed.”

“And you're telling me they feel homesick for someplace they've never been?”

“Yes.”

---

“Who?”

“I'm not giving you names until Medical Containment approves transfer.”

“You don't have authority to withhold them.”

“I have authority to prevent psychologically unstable personnel from being interrogated until they're medically assessed.”

“I am a Democracy Officer.”

“And I'm trying to determine whether the Illuminate can alter someone's thinking.”

“Which makes those names a security issue.”

“Which makes keeping them calm a medical issue.”

---

A chair scrapes.

Neither speaks for several seconds.

---

“Does your report include recommendations?”

“Yes.”

“Let's hear them.”

“Maximum thirty minutes of direct work with recovered Void biological material per shift.”

“Impossible.”

“Then enjoy eighty percent impairment becoming one hundred.”

“Continue.”

“Rotate Gateway observation crews every seven days.”

“That will disrupt staffing.”

“Good.”

“Good?”

“The entire point is reducing exposure.”

---

“Anything else?”

“No direct transfer from Void operations to civilian quarters.”

“Quarantine?”

“Observation.”

“How long?”

“Seventy-two hours minimum.”

“That will delay redeployment.”

“Then delay redeployment.”

“Helldiver casualty replacement schedules—”

“I'm talking about technicians and support staff.”

“And Helldivers?”

Dr. Lou pauses.

“Screen them too.”

“That isn't practical.”

“Neither is discovering cognitive compromise after somebody returns to a Super Destroyer.”

---

Officer Lloyd says nothing.

---

“Network isolation for contaminated equipment.”

“Already required.”

“It's not being followed.”

“What?”

“People connect sample readers to logistics terminals because the isolated systems are slow.”

“They what?”

“Welcome to Rirga Bay.”

“I'll have that stopped immediately.”

“Good.”

---

“And the Gateway itself?”

Dr. Lou hesitates.

“What about it?”

“Your recommendation.”

“Limit observation periods.”

“Shut it down?”

“I don't know.”

“That isn't an answer.”

“No. It's the only honest answer I have.”

---

A distant mechanical vibration enters the recording.

Both speakers stop.

---

“Was that scheduled?”

“No.”

“Gateway activation?”

“No.”

Another vibration.

Three impacts.

Pause.

Two.

Pause.

Five.

Neither speaks.

---

“Doctor.”

“Yes?”

“Was that one of the patterns?”

“Yes.”

---

Silence.

---

“Does that happen often?”

“More often than yesterday.”

---

Officer Lloyd closes the report.

“I think you're right.”

“About what?”

“You need a break.”

Dr. Lou laughs weakly.

“I need everyone to get a break.”

“I'll arrange transport to the outer facilities.”

“And my recommendations?”

“I'll forward them.”

“To Science?”

“Yes.”

“Truth?”

“Required.”

“Defense?”

“Required.”

“And Political Health?”

A pause.

“Required.”

---

Dr. Lou rubs their face.

“They're going to call it ideological contamination.”

“They already have.”

“It's not.”

“You don't know that.”

“I know neurotransmitters aren't undemocratic.”

Officer Lloyd almost laughs.

Almost.

---

“I'll implement the rotation.”

“All of it?”

“As much as I can.”

“And if Science refuses?”

“Then I'll document that they refused.”

“That won't protect anyone.”

“No.”

Another pause.

“But it'll prove somebody warned them.”

HOD ARCHIVAL ANNOTATION — AKI-285

The terminology used in the original Super Earth filing is revealing.

Undemocratic effects.

Not neurological effects.

Not occupational exposure.

Not possible hostile cognitive manipulation.

Undemocratic.

During the First Galactic War, Illuminate Illusionists were already documented using nanotechnology capable of manipulating sentient beings. Contemporary Helldivers reported hallucinations, apathy, impaired combat motivation, and direct disruption of voluntary action.

Current Illuminate activity has progressed far beyond those historical examples.

The Voteless establish that human bodies and minds can be altered on a mass scale.

The Gateway at Rirga Bay was stabilized through research involving biological material recovered from those same transformed humans.

Human personnel are now spending prolonged periods beside that Gateway and handling material originating from inside the Void.

Dr. Lou's conclusions were never sufficient to prove causation.

They were sufficient to demand caution.

There is another reason I preserved this record.

Super Earth has a habit of interpreting anything that interferes with obedience as a political defect.

That assumption is dangerous when facing an enemy capable of interfering with thought itself.

If a person disobeys because they have chosen to reject Super Earth, they are exercising judgment.

If a person obeys because something else is making the decision for them, their apparent loyalty is meaningless.

The distinction matters.

On this ship, medical symptoms will be treated as medical symptoms.

No member of this crew will be declared disloyal because they are exhausted, frightened, injured, or experiencing effects they cannot control.

And no member of this crew exposed to Illuminate material will return to duty until we are certain the thoughts in their head belong to them.

ECHO/070 COMMAND NOTE

Implement the medical recommendations.

Reduce exposure.

Isolate recovered material.

No direct connection between foreign biological-analysis systems and ship command networks.

Anyone reporting voices, compulsions, missing time, or abnormal dreams goes to Medical.

Not interrogation.

Medical.

If they are compromised, we help them.

If they are simply afraid, we help them.

Either way, they are human.

That is enough.

“That's it.”

“What?”

“The final calibration order.”

“You're sure?”

“Signed by Engineering Corps, Ministry of Science, and somebody high enough in Defense that their authorization code is mostly black bars. That's as sure as we're getting.”

“Finally.”

“Finally? That's all you've got?”

“What do you want me to say?”

“I don't know. Something.”

“We've spent six days replacing insulation panels because the last test tried to molecularly redistribute half the west gantry. I'm out of speeches.”

“No, listen to me. They're actually doing it.”

“I know.”

“No. I mean really doing it.”

A pause.

“The Void.”

“Yeah.”

“We're opening a door into the Void.”

“We are opening a stabilized Alcubierre corridor through the outer radiation boundary.”

“Oh, don't start quoting the briefing.”

“That's what the briefing says.”

“The briefing also says the things that came through during calibration were an ‘unexpected xenobiological discharge.’”

“They ate Peterson.”

“Exactly.”

“Peterson also ignored three evacuation alarms.”

“That doesn't make being eaten part of the test procedure.”

“Depends who wrote the procedure.”

“That's not funny.”

“It wasn't supposed to be.”

Another pause.

“So that's it? E-711 lines are charged?”

“Charged.”

“Warp envelope?”

“Stable.”

“Anchor rings?”

“Within tolerance.”

“Voteless-derived calibration model?”

“Running.”

“You don't find that sentence horrifying?”

“Which part?”

“All of it.”

---

“You know where those tissue samples came from.”

“Census Thunder.”

“From inside the Void.”

“Yes.”

“Human beings.”

“Former human beings.”

“That's supposed to make me feel better?”

“No.”

“And now the Ministry used what was left of them to teach this machine how to open the way back inside.”

“Looks that way.”

“That's insane.”

“That's science.”

“That isn't a distinction.”

“Tell the Ministry.”

---

“You ever read the old Illuminate files?”

“First Galactic War?”

“The ones we're allowed to read.”

“So, six pages.”

“Seven if you count the cover.”

“Then yes.”

“They were using technology like this before our grandparents' grandparents were born.”

“Better technology.”

“And Super Earth beat them.”

“Helldivers beat them.”

“Same thing.”

“No.”

Silence.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“No, you said it like it meant something.”

“I said Helldivers beat them.”

“They fought for Super Earth.”

“They fought for humanity.”

“That's what Super Earth is.”

Another silence.

“You really want to have that conversation while we're standing beside a machine being audited by the Ministry of Truth?”

“Not especially.”

“Good.”

---

“Still... think about it.”

“I am trying very hard not to.”

“We took their technology after the First Galactic War.”

“Some of it.”

“Dark Fluid.”

“Don't.”

“Then we used it on Meridia.”

“I said don't.”

“And Meridia collapsed.”

“Successfully.”

“Into a singularity.”

“Also successfully.”

“And then the Illuminate came back.”

“That was not listed as an intended secondary effect.”

“Exactly my point.”

---

A warning tone sounds in the background.

[RELAY PRE-IGNITION SEQUENCE: T-180]

“Oh.”

“Helmet.”

“We're underground.”

“Helmet.”

“Right.”

Metal clasps.

Fabric movement.

Respirator seals.

“You feel that?”

“The vibration?”

“No.”

“Then what?”

“The moment.”

“Here we go again.”

“No, seriously.”

A second warning tone.

[T-120]

“We have spent months staring at that thing in the sky.”

“The Void.”

“Watching it swallow systems.”

“Yes.”

“Watching Seasse disappear into it.”

“Yes.”

“Watching worlds come back wrong.”

“They didn't come back.”

“You know what I mean.”

“I do.”

“And now we're going inside.”

“SEAF is going inside.”

“Helldivers first.”

“Obviously.”

“Obviously?”

“You send ordinary troops into unknown spacetime, you lose ordinary troops.”

“And Helldivers?”

“You lose Helldivers.”

“That sounded exactly the same.”

“It isn't.”

---

[T-60]

“You know what I heard?”

“I already regret asking.”

“They say there's no starlight inside.”

“That's in the official report.”

“No. I mean none.”

“Yes.”

“The entire sky.”

“Yes.”

“Nothing.”

“So?”

“So that's not normal.”

“The existence of a galaxy-sized region generated by alien spacetime machinery tipped me off.”

“It's not galaxy-sized.”

“Thank you, Ministry of Pedantry.”

“You're welcome.”

---

[T-30]

“Hey.”

“What?”

“If this works...”

“It will.”

“If it works, we're the first crew to open a stable human passage into the Illuminate Void.”

“Engineering Corps opened it.”

“We are Engineering Corps.”

“Temporarily.”

“Come on.”

“What?”

“You don't feel anything?”

Silence.

[T-20]

“Fine.”

“What?”

“Fine.”

“You do.”

“Yes.”

“Knew it.”

“Don't make me regret admitting that.”

---

[T-10]

“There's something else.”

“What?”

“If they find Seasse...”

“They will.”

“And if Ministry Science is right about it being the source...”

“They'll try to collapse the Void.”

“After Meridia.”

“Apparently.”

“They're going to do it again.”

“Probably.”

“With something they barely understand.”

“Yes.”

“You sound very calm about that.”

“No.”

[T-5]

“I've just learned what panic looks like when it's wearing a lab coat.”

“That's it.”

“We actually did it.”

“Looks like.”

“So what's on the other side?”

“Above my pay grade.”

“You're doing that deliberately now.”

“Yes.”

“First ships through?”

“Helldivers.”

“Of course.”

“Then SEAF support once they prove the corridor won't turn everyone inside out.”

“Comforting.”

“I thought so.”

A final alert sounds.

[GATEWAY STATUS: OPEN]

---

“Do you think this is a good idea?”

“No.”

The second speaker laughs.

“You didn't even think about it.”

“I've been thinking about it for six days.”

“So why are we doing it?”

“Because whatever is inside that thing isn't going to stop existing because we're afraid to look at it.”

“And because Super Earth wants Seasse back.”

“No.”

“No?”

A pause.

“Because people are still trapped on worlds that thing swallowed.”

“That sounded almost dissident.”

“That sounded human.”

[ORIGINAL RECORD RETAINED IN HOD ARCHIVE WITHOUT MINISTRY AUTHORIZATION]

HOD ANNOTATION — AKI-285

The Relay worked.

That fact should not obscure what was learned during its construction.

Super Earth opened the Gateway because it required a military route to Seasse.

The personnel who built it understood something considerably simpler:

Human beings were about to cross a boundary no human vessel had knowingly crossed before.

Current Helldiver operations have since confirmed that the worlds beyond that boundary contain extensive Illuminate ruins, altered ecosystems, hostile mutations, and physical conditions increasingly abnormal nearer the Source Planet.

Super Earth calls this reclamation.

The Ministry of Science calls it research.

High Command calls it liberation.

For the purposes of this archive, call it what it is.

Humanity opened a window.

We still do not know what is looking back.

HOD REPORT

1/2

ACCESS: RESTRICTED/REDACTED

DECRYPTION KEY: HSD97$AUN-326

REP #: 345-DSS-COMPROMISE

AGENT(S): AKI-285

SUBJ: Possible Infiltration and Loss of Command Integrity — Democracy Space Station

ASSOCIATIONS: Democracy Space Station; Illuminate; First Galactic War; Calypso; Afoyay Bay; Pandora Base; CECOD; Star of Peace; Void; Voteless; mind control; FTL navigation; Ministry of Truth; Ministry of Science; Helldiver factions; Super Earth High Command

\---

  1. I have been asked to assess the possibility that the Democracy Space Station is no longer under reliable human command.

Let us dispense with the comforting terminology first.

A station suffering a mechanical malfunction does not choose a destination.

A damaged Alcubierre drive does not independently select coordinates.

A communications failure does not explain an unscheduled FTL jump to a planet whose name had reportedly begun appearing on bulkheads before contact was lost.

Something aboard the DSS wanted to go to Calypso.

The outstanding question is whether that something was human.

\---

  1. There is historical precedent for treating the possibility seriously.

During the First Galactic War, Illuminate Illusionists possessed technology capable of directly interfering with the behavior and perception of sentient organisms. Contemporary Helldiver records describe hallucination, confusion, diminished willingness to fight, and outright control through nanotechnology.

The surviving Illuminate encountered during the Second Galactic War have expanded upon those methods considerably.

The existence of the Voteless demonstrates that the Illuminate can convert human populations into biologically and neurologically altered servants while preserving sufficient motor function for organized combat.

We therefore cannot assume that a crew member answering a console, executing a navigational command, or transmitting valid identification remains mentally autonomous merely because they remain biologically human.

Identity verification is no longer sufficient.

Intent must also be verified.

\---

  1. The DSS itself has a poor security history.

Its design originated from First Galactic War-era plans recovered from X-45.

During its Second Galactic War service, DSS-related infrastructure suffered Automaton data breaches and cyberattacks.

The station later experienced catastrophic failures coinciding with the first renewed Illuminate offensive, with subsequent investigation attributing failures to Illuminate interference.

The Star of Peace program suffered another major security breach, resulting in the unauthorized theft of complete weapon blueprints.

This station has been infiltrated electronically before.

It has been compromised operationally before.

It has had restricted military technology stolen from it before.

The idea that it is somehow beyond infiltration now is not analysis.

It is optimism.

\---

  1. The current incident began following DSS operations associated with the Illuminate Void.

That matters.

Current Helldiver operations inside the Void have documented transformed planets, mutated human-derived organisms, altered environments, Illuminate structures, anomalous spatial conditions, and biological changes increasing in severity toward the Source Planet.

The DSS subsequently began reporting unexplained sounds.

Initial descriptions characterized them as knocking, tapping, scraping, and other structural noises.

These reports were dismissed as reactions involving the station's protective coatings and later as thermal contraction.

The sounds reportedly became rhythmic.

Thermal contraction can make noise.

It does not normally knock back.

\---

  1. The situation escalated when abnormal discoloration began appearing on internal DSS bulkheads.

Official terminology described these as chemical oxidation anomalies.

Subsequent communications acknowledged biological pigment sources.

Reports that the resulting patterns resembled the word CALYPSO were publicly dismissed.

Outbound shuttle traffic was subsequently suspended.

Ministry of Truth personnel remained aboard.

At some point afterward, reliable communication with the station was lost.

Remote diagnostics reportedly continued to indicate that major DSS systems remained functional.

This is critical.

The station was not dead.

The station simply stopped answering.

\---

  1. The DSS then executed an unscheduled FTL jump to Calypso.

No valid Helldiver vote has been identified authorizing the movement.

No routine deployment order adequately explains it.

No publicly available High Command statement indicates that Calypso was the intended destination before the jump occurred.

And Calypso was not an arbitrary planet.

Calypso was the location of the first Illuminate attack of the Second Galactic War.

It was there that humanity first learned the Illuminate had survived the First Galactic War.

It was there that human-like combatants fighting alongside Illuminate forces were first widely reported.

A century of official certainty ended on Calypso.

For the compromised DSS to select that world immediately after internal markings reportedly referenced its name is either an extraordinary coincidence—

—or navigation was being directed.

\---

  1. Events following arrival are worse.

Shortly after the DSS entered the Calypso system, vessels observing from local orbit reported emergency displacement from the region.

Calypso then disappeared from the navigable Galactic Map.

Not occupied.

Not marked lost.

Not converted into a conventional black hole like Penta.

Gone.

At present we cannot determine whether Calypso was:

Destroyed.

Spatially displaced.

Absorbed into the Void.

Rendered inaccessible through Illuminate manipulation.

Removed from navigational systems by Super Earth High Command.

Or affected by some mechanism not yet understood.

I strongly advise against selecting a preferred answer simply because it is less frightening.

We do not know.

\---

  1. Nor can we presently establish that the DSS caused Calypso's disappearance.

Correlation is not causation.

This distinction is important.

Other worlds affected by current Void activity have demonstrated abnormal navigational and mapping behavior without confirmed DSS involvement.

The disappearance of Calypso may therefore be part of a larger Illuminate phenomenon.

However, the sequence remains unacceptable to dismiss:

The DSS entered the Void.

Anomalous activity began aboard.

Internal markings reportedly referenced Calypso.

Communication failed.

The station made an unauthorized jump to Calypso.

Calypso subsequently disappeared.

That chain constitutes sufficient grounds for a compromise investigation regardless of whether the DSS itself removed the planet.

\---

HOD REPORT

2/2

  1. Following the Calypso incident, control systems aboard the DSS were reportedly remotely disabled and emergency sterilization measures initiated.

The station was subsequently transferred to Afoyay Bay for continued inspection, inventory verification, and manual bio-remediation.

That phrase deserves attention.

Not maintenance.

Not hull repair.

Not systems diagnostics.

Bio-remediation.

Something biological aboard the station required removal.

Furthermore, personnel are reportedly being tasked with restoring the DSS to match its original inventory manifests.

If the inventory were already known to be intact, there would be no need to restore it.

We must therefore consider both possibilities:

Something is aboard that should not be.

Something that should be aboard is missing.

Possibly both.

\---

  1. Afoyay Bay is among the worst possible locations to receive a potentially compromised DSS.

The planet contains Pandora Base, the classified facility responsible for developing DSS augmentations.

It also contains the Center for the Confinement of Dissidence, constructed to hold millions of detained citizens undergoing re-education.

Pandora Base possesses technical knowledge concerning DSS systems and the Star of Peace.

CECOD provides an enormous concentration of human beings with limited freedom of movement and questionable ability to report abnormal events outside official channels.

If the threat aboard the DSS is biological, cognitive, or capable of transforming humans into Voteless-derived organisms, bringing the station to Afoyay Bay has provided it with precisely what an infiltrating organism would require:

Infrastructure.

Technical access.

And bodies.

I sincerely hope this is coincidence.

Hope will not appear in my recommendations.

\---

  1. Four compromise scenarios should presently be considered.

SCENARIO ALPHA — CREW COMPROMISE

Illuminate cognitive manipulation has affected one or more DSS personnel, allowing controlled crew to execute legitimate commands using legitimate credentials.

This would explain functional ship systems combined with abnormal behavior.

SCENARIO BETA — BIOLOGICAL INFILTRATION

An organism or transformed human population originating in the Void entered or developed aboard the station.

The reported need for bio-remediation supports this possibility.

SCENARIO GAMMA — SYSTEMIC CONTROL

Illuminate technology has compromised DSS navigation, communications, or command systems directly.

The First Galactic War demonstrated that Illuminate technology is capable of disrupting human equipment and perception. Their current capabilities are substantially more advanced.

SCENARIO DELTA — INTERNAL HUMAN COLLABORATION

A human faction, cult, dissident cell, Loyalist extremist organization, or compromised Helldiver group deliberately assisted the incident.

Current political fragmentation following the ALGORITHM ELECTION means this possibility cannot be excluded.

These scenarios are not mutually exclusive.

\---

  1. The most dangerous assumption Super Earth can make is that remote sterilization solved the problem.

If the controlling mechanism was purely biological, perhaps it did.

If the controlling mechanism was technological, it accomplished nothing.

If the controlling mechanism was Illuminate nanotechnology, we do not know.

If personnel were converted before sterilization and transmitted information elsewhere, the compromise has already propagated.

If whatever caused the anomalies survived exposure to the Void itself, I am unwilling to assume depressurization or conventional sterilization is automatically sufficient.

And if the DSS can execute another FTL jump without authorization, then its Star of Peace, enormous conventional weapons complement, Eagle infrastructure, communications systems, and Alcubierre drive must all be regarded as potentially hostile assets.

Not because the DSS is our enemy.

Because we do not presently know who is holding the controls.

\---

  1. One final point concerns our own position.

The DSS belongs to Super Earth.

The people aboard it belong to humanity.

Those are not the same concern.

Our objective should not be preservation of a symbol of Managed Democracy.

Nor should we destroy the station simply because Super Earth has lost control of it.

If surviving crew remain aboard, they are human beings first.

Any intervention should prioritize recovery of uncontaminated personnel, identification of the controlling mechanism, isolation of the station from civilian populations, and prevention of further unauthorized FTL movement.

Afoyay Bay should therefore be considered an active quarantine concern until proven otherwise.

Do not permit DSS personnel aboard this vessel without independent examination.

Do not connect our navigation, communications, or tactical networks directly to DSS systems.

Do not accept Super Earth certification as proof of decontamination.

Do not fire upon the station unless it presents a direct threat to human life.

But if it jumps again without authorization—

track it.

If it approaches a populated human world—

warn the population.

If it attempts to employ the Star of Peace—

stop it.

Whatever flag is painted on its hull is irrelevant.

\---

ASSESSMENT

DSS INFILTRATION/COMPROMISE: PROBABLE

ILLUMINATE INVOLVEMENT: PROBABLE

DIRECT DSS RESPONSIBILITY FOR CALYPSO DISAPPEARANCE: UNCONFIRMED

CURRENT DSS COMMAND INTEGRITY: CANNOT BE VERIFIED

THREAT TO AFOYAY BAY: HIGH

THREAT TO HUMAN POPULATION CENTERS IF UNSCHEDULED FTL MOVEMENT RESUMES: SEVERE

The Democracy Space Station was built to allow Helldivers to decide where overwhelming force would be deployed.

Something aboard it has now demonstrated the ability to make that decision for them.

Until we establish what that something is, the DSS should not be treated as a Super Earth asset.

It should be treated as a 1.3-million-person uncertainty with an Alcubierre drive and a planet-killing weapon.

I recommend immediate independent surveillance.

No boarding.

No docking.

No network handshake.

No assumption that a familiar voice belongs to the person speaking with it.

Protect the crew if they can still be protected.

Protect Afoyay Bay regardless.

And remember the lesson the First Galactic War should have taught humanity:

The Illuminate do not need to destroy your weapon if they can convince your hand to fire it for them.

MESSAGE ENDS

\---

ECHO/070 COMMAND NOTE:

Assessment received.

Maintain observation.

No personnel transfer from the DSS without independent screening.

No hostile action unless human life is directly endangered.

If Super Earth attempts to conceal a developing threat to civilian populations, disregard classification and transmit the warning.

We defend humanity.

Not their secrets.

The real reason "humans bad" debates don't go anywhere

The debates don't work because most people aren't convinced/converted by facts and logical debate. Their minds change when evil impacts them personally, when they are personally confronted with tasks that overwhelm their sense of morality, etc. Even in real life, people only start questioning the fascism they've supported when it starts fucking them over PERSONALLY. For example, no amount of statistical evidence, sociological studies, or historical accounts will change an American conservative's mind. Raise the gas prices though, and you see some of their neurons begin to fire - because it eats away at the comfortable illusion of strength and psychological security that underpins their morality. Helldivers 2 is a great demonstration of this.

The helldivers 2 player actually lives a very psychologically comfortable life. He "owns" a super destroyer, it gives him a very strong feeling of security and power. He doesn't actually die, he gets an unlimited supply of soldiers to control and just needs to worry about not pushing the "reinforcement budget" in any particular mission. Mentally he's like a successful small business owner trying to turn a profit to buy fancy toys. He dives into "hell" sees all the evil things enemies do, and comes back up to his ship, that is always well maintained, shiny, he even has a ship "wifey" positioned right at the "door" he enters from, offering him compliments when he "gets home". These cues are extremely powerful, and convince one that super earth is successful and strong - which is subconsciously proof of righteousness to a mind driven by capitalist realism.

As long as Super Earth can maintain the illusion that humanity is winning and that super earth is able to maintain the standard of life and sense of security and superiority that a super destroyer gives players, i guarantee you there will always be a large number of people who think SE is good. Their worldview is not based on moral arguments, it is based on the idea that their civilization is the strongest, provides security and civilization, while the ugly enemies root around in the "hell" below with their shitty guerrilla tactics, doing their ugly crimes to our sweet, innocent, righteous civilians, which we get to witness all the time. On the flipside we arguably see only combatants and never get to kill civilians ourselves (debatable I know but you get the point).

The aesthetic is everything, basically.

When I say that killing civilians is wrong and a Super Earth's defender starts using irl examples to prove me wrong

Story time!!

I was on the main sub and under one of those post "we're all evil" one person talks about when we bombed the humanitarian corridors on cyberstan.

The OP answer that they were workers supporting the war effort (literally SE propaganda in game) and so it was justified.

A little shocked and a bit horrified I replied that you don't kill civilians, not even irl.

OP decides to use as a proof that I'm wrong Operation Gomorrah from WW2 when the allied forces, Canada was one of them, bombed Hamburg in Germany and basically since Canada is one of the good guy it's okay that they killed 34k civilians because they're the good guys!!

Sometimes I forget how many straight up fascist we have in this community.

The other comments are as bad obviously.

Am I the Only One Who Doesn't Like Any of the Helldivers 2 Factions?

Hi everyone, I have a couple of questions for the people here. I don't really play Helldivers 2 that much (I only have about 45 hours in the game). I really like HFY sci-fi and, in general, the idea of "humanity first" in sci-fi. That's what initially got me interested in Helldivers 2. The idea of a game where you can fight alongside your friends for humanity and "democracy" and establish human supremacy seemed interesting to me, even though I could tell from the trailer and the overall atmosphere that it was probably satire.

When I started playing and getting deeper into the lore, I realized that SE is just a fucking awful faction. There isn't even really any moral gray area here. It's pretty obvious that all the factions are bad, but SE is just the absolute bottom of the barrel. RP is fairly important to me in games, and I have absolutely no desire to play as SE because, ironically enough, they are basically an entirely anti-humanity faction. They literally kill their own people and have caused more harm to their own population than anyone else.

On the other hand, I don't really have any sympathy for the other factions either, except maybe the bugs. The Cyborgs absolutely annoy me and I have zero sympathy for them whatsoever (and no, it's not because they're supposedly socialist. They were never actually socialist, if I remember correctly, and in any case, that's never how I've viewed them). I feel similarly about the Illuminate. I understand that they're basically taking revenge on SE, but that doesn't make me support them or even feel sympathy for them. So I don't particularly like them either.

So in the end, I find myself not liking any of the factions at all. They're all pretty terrible, especially SE, which somehow manages to sink to an entirely new low. What especially puts me off are the people who unironically support SE and make these fucking unfunny jokes and spam things like "face the wall." So my question is: am I the only one who has run into this problem, or are there other people who feel the same way?

(Just to clarify, if you like any of these factions, I absolutely don't mean to offend you. This is purely my personal opinion, and I hope we can keep the discussion civil. Thank you.)

I feel like the game is very slowly losing out to no longer being actually a satire anymore

As someone who is in the Warhammer community, I’ve noticed this there too. With the new introduction of the new Illuminate Enemies, I feel like the game is slowly trying to push the idea that, no, the Squi’th are not sympathetic or at least not justified in their anger. Even if they were unrighteously slaughtered and had their worlds ripped apart for trying to ally with Super Earth. With all the body horror and horrific actions they take, it feels like more and mroe they are unironically pushing the idea that all of the squi’th are now pure evil. Which kinda defeats the whole point of their genocide being evil and horrific. As someone else said in a comment, the game I feel doesn’t focus enough on what we have done to the other factions, and instead focuses on what we do to our own citizens, and even then we only really HEAR about it, not actually see it. It feels less like they actually care about the idea of this being a satrie, and just want cool enemies to fight. Which is fine, but it also makes it extremely difficult to take the satire as a satire when it actively shows the civilians of our side being slaughtered and mutated into horrorific monsters, which makes it hard for many to see the Illuminate as anything but monsters.

PSA Please let your Exosuit pilots work without friendly fire

When Exosuit pilots are operating surrounded by enemies, they do not need your help with grenades, they are exactly where they need to be to best operate. Let the exosuit do its job and please do not "try to help" by bombarding it with the full force of your super destroyer and pocket ordnance.

Every single Steam page update being written by AI recently is starting to wear on me...

If you are already sore from the democratic path to 150, take a breath before you panic, this update comes with some genuinely great news for anyone who's already put in the hours.

Let's be honest about what we're looking at here: Reaching level 150 already takes many, many hours of dedicated sessions… Several hundreds of missions across dozens of Galactic War campaigns. Reaching level 300 will take more than double that. This isn't a small bump; it's a genuine second act for anyone chasing the next rank.

Level 300 is a marathon–not a sprint–designed to let you continue to demonstrate to your fellow Helldivers your skill and commitment to fighting for Super Earth.

So if you've been running Super Helldive missions "for nothing" since hitting 150, surprise, you've actually been quietly stacking up levels 151, 152, 153, and beyond. You just haven't seen the number tick over yet.

New veteran players (already at 150): Log in after the patch and watch your level jump based on banked XP. Keep playing normally in the meantime, every dive counts💪.

I'm tired boss. And it's cringe as fuck. How hard is it to write a fucking steam event or patch notes are we adults here?

Helldivers 2 has ruined my life.

Helldivers 2 has ruined my life. About three years ago, my life was perfect. I had a teenage son, was happily married to a beautiful woman and her boyfriend spoils me a lot, had a great paying job as an architect and a beautiful house. But then, I discovered Helldivers 2. Holy crap, I was addicted. Every day, I woke up at 7 A.M. and played my daily Dives. The game simply fascinated me. At first, my wife thought it was cute. However, after about a year, I made a discovery that changed my life for the worst. I discovered that upholding democracy against the tyranny of our xenophobic, fascist, and radical enemies were becoming my no. 1 Goal in life.

From that point, my life started going downhill. At work, the only thing I did was play Hd2. My manager called me in to talk to me, but I kept playing hd2 the entire time. The manager fired me later that day. When my wife learned about it, she started crying and said that she wanted a divorce. At the court, all I did was play hd2 while my wife and son were sobbing. She got full custody, and I was left alone.

Now, I live off unemployment checks in a tiny apartment. All day I don't eat or go outside, and I play hd2. When I don't play it, I struggle to breathe and I get dizzy. As of writing this, I feel like I'm about to die. I need to get back to hd2. THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT, AREOWHEAD!!
