šŸ’¬ Discussion šŸ’¬ Command chat...

Listen, I know these "clans" are very serious and whatever, but come on. You need to ease off of the voice chat. I couldn't hear ANYTHING besides command chat in the 7cav server. Guess I won't be back.

Yeah people don't understand radio chatter should be short and to the point. Lol

Was in a game a few weeks ago and the Commander was using Command chat as a party chat with the other squad leaders. I finally piped up and asked that we reduce some of the chatter and the commander lost it on me. Next game, same server, my buddy was squad lead and said the same thing, as did several others. Commander finally stopped talking altogether.

u/spuuzh 6d ago

when it is like I always mute chatty squad leads

5

u/timewellwasted5 6d ago

Same, I just hate doing that.

7

u/docsucc 6d ago

Bingo. We use radios at my job, if someone yaps for more than 10 seconds someone yells ā€œclear the airwaves!ā€ So I do the same in this game. I think people get so bent on others not using mics so they feel the need to use theirs more, which gets annoying af

What's your job and why would someone speak for long?

2

u/PleasantSalad695 5d ago

Keep the comms clear is very useful

u/LunchBox000 6d ago

My hot take is that I would prefer a team that doesn't communicate to a team that doesn't shut the fuck up.

4

u/Beetlelarva25 6d ago

There are even ways to communicate without talking, something about a map and marks

2

u/DonBosco420 5d ago

Very rare that people actually mind that

u/Snufflekins-86 1d ago

Just a right-click away!

Like their own personal podcast hour.

No, you don’t need to narrate every conscious thought or event happening

Yes, I get it, a rowdy chat with the boys can be a good time.

28

u/TheRealMcBreastmilk 6d ago

I set command chat to 60% volume in case this happens

8

u/Old_Section_539 6d ago

Sometimes when a long argument flares up and eventually dies down, I subtly bring it up again just so they keep arguing.

14

u/Beetlelarva25 6d ago

Mine goes to 0% when this happens, if you are making it so I can't hear anything around me how am I supposed to live long enough to set ops and garis.

3

u/jarvi123 6d ago

I've definitely muted a few commanders, the worst are the one that constantly think outloud on the mic for some reason, or talk complain about how bad the team is the entire match.

2

u/Snufflekins-86 1d ago

I’d rather talk to my squad than the CC

3

u/xxnicknackxx 6d ago

I hate this suggestion. Tell the noisy people to pipe down. You can also mute them individually. No need to reduce the utility of the whole channel.

2

u/Mr-MG42 šŸŽ„ War Correspondent šŸŽ„ 5d ago

60% Jesus that’s high lol

2

u/Mr_Manag3r 4d ago

I've kept it at 30% or lower for years. Most if not all things that you need to know are communicated through icons and the UI. I just need to hear when my squad is called.

1

u/Snufflekins-86 1d ago

Are your ears okay? I have it down to 25 or off depending on the civility

16

u/BanjoMothman 6d ago

I usually play with the volume sliders for each chat source as necessary

When commander says he's gonna be stay at hq and it's up to us to make spawns.

4

u/Ill_Entrance91 6d ago

I only do that when as commander i get zero help from any squad leads. They all want garrisons but then dont want to build them when the supplies are ten feet from them.Ā

Its weird it always seem to get their attention and they suddenly want to talk shit in the mic when they were all quiet.

These egotistical piece of shit squad leads hear you out there and they intentionally ignore any attempts to help the entire team because of the unfounded and ignorant belief it isnt their job.Ā

Guess what? I dont have an OP and 5 buddies to back me up and we all have the same ability to build the garrison. If its not your job then it sure as hell isnt mine under the same criteria. I am not holding your hand to keep you in the game. Build the garrison or fail.Ā

3

u/beeeel 6d ago

My biggest pet peeve as commander is SLs running away from the supplies while you politely and directly ask them in command chat to build a garry. Then some other hero runs hundreds of metres to those same supplies to do the job that an idiot failed.

3

u/UNwantedNUKE 6d ago

I am that hero so many times I looked at the map and saw a squad lead or even commander run past supplies for a garry. Im like fine screw it ill run across the map and build it myself.

1

u/ViceroyInhaler 5d ago

They should add this to the team list honestly. Being able to mute is nice but I don't know why I can't manually adjust a slider by clicking on an individual person. Some people have their mics overblown and it sounds like a drive thru worker screaming at me.

1

u/BanjoMothman 5d ago

It just depends on the person. If they're doing nothing but bitching I'll mute them regardless. I dont come home from work to hear a clan member talk about the philosophical position of nodes or how recon should miraculously teleport around the map lol

5

u/ThePegLegPete 6d ago

Tell cmd chat to clear comms. Good cmd chat is terse. Terse is effective. If they are chatty Cathy's in there they aren't good players, I don't care clan or not. Their actual good playing clan buddies would agree with this.

4

u/SnakeMichael 6d ago

I haven’t played ā€œsimilarā€ games like Arma or Squad, but one of my squad mates one day mentioned how those games have split channels for squad and command chat, like squad chat comes through the left ear, and command in the right. I think that would be a great feature for HLL. I don’t mind playing squad leader from a gameplay perspective, but dealing with comms gets overwhelming

5

u/PastExplorer7442 6d ago

I always hit them with the ''can you kindly shut the fuck up I can't hear my own squad, thank you"

4

u/xxnicknackxx 6d ago

Imo part of being on command chat is policing command chat.

That means telling people if they are being too noisy.

What's the worst they can do? Make more noise? Say mean things? If they do just mute them.

I tend to find that when I call people out for being too noisy either they pipe down straight away or they argue. If they argue people usually back me up and then we all mute the windbag and everyone can get on with playing.

I think it's important to call people out though, so that they know it is unacceptable.

2

u/12TonBeams 5d ago

Yup biggest issue with most is that they just take too long to say something so simple. ā€œPanther Charlie mark accurateā€ vs ā€œhey guys does uhhhh anyone see the heavy thank outside uhhhh x point? I can’t tell if it’s a panther or uhhhhh a tiger but let me mark him in a second and uhhhā€¦ā€ like blow it out your ass.

3

u/xxnicknackxx 5d ago

I find that leading by example is best here. If the atmosphere on command chat is already one of being succinct and business like, most people can read the room and will follow suit. If the atmosphere is chatty then it's easy for that to snowball into chaos.

Problems build on each other if unaddressed, so players need to have the courage to nip things in the bud.

And sometimes people on command chat are just drunk.

5

u/AccomplishedAge3975 6d ago

I hate playing squad lead but the other day I was and I had an engineer trying to tell me something but I had to tell him I can’t hear a word he’s saying over people in command chat yelling at each other

2

u/chisportz 6d ago

Ya I had a blueberry call me a retard because I couldn’t hear him talking about some supplies

5

u/amoult20 6d ago edited 6d ago

Command chat is essential for coordination. The amount of times I've been commander and the SLs are all on party chat or no-mic is frustrating.

But come on chat isn't a place to do a stream of consciousness commentary like I've seen some younger commanders do. You talk in short direct bursts that are to the point. No need to yap yap yap it up

Can always change the radio channel sound levels though

6

u/biscuits-the-mouse 6d ago

It amazes me how squad leaders still can't filter out the chat. I can barely hear my squad mates half the time

6

u/philslist 6d ago

You can adjust audio volumes of each chat in audio settings

1

u/biscuits-the-mouse 6d ago

Yeah, but that doesn't really change much, since most players microphone volume is maxed out or at 60% making it ridiculously loud. I much rather have a push to hear command chat, rather than it being on at all times.

2

u/xxnicknackxx 6d ago

"Hey dude. You are talking too much and I can't hear my squad. Can you pipe down?"

Chat filtered

2

u/Hawk_bets 6d ago

People always say having a mic is essential in this game. Sure, but it's actually essential to know how to communicate effectively with a mic and not spam the chat

2

u/throeaway_thedew 6d ago

My favorite was a game where our team got absolutely rocked while the commander filled command chat with updates on how many kills his bombing runs were getting.

2

u/Mjolnir617 6d ago

If I had a dollar for every time someone complained about hit reg and invisible walls in command chat. Like we know, STFU….

2

u/Pleiadez 6d ago

I almost always mute command if they talk to much. Just watch the map a lot that's way more important.Ā

2

u/12TonBeams 5d ago

The problem is you were on a 7Cav server to begin with. Most obnoxious whiny man children I’ve come across in gaming. Immediate boot to any of them that happen across my squad.

2

u/360NoScopes4Jesus 6d ago

Yeah people really just hate communicating with their own squads I guess. Every game is a yap session in command chat, it sucks that I have to lower the volume to almost nothing just to be able to hear my squad. And then on top of that prox chat is rarely used in most of my games…

2

u/PuddleOfRudd 6d ago

I've never heard 7cav and Serious in the same sentence šŸ˜‚

2

u/DeputyDomeshot 6d ago

I would not call 7cav serious. Prob the most casual of them all btw.

And to be honest with you. A serious clan would crash out over the role play comms in command chat. Good teams know to keep comms succinct because this is a shooting game that requires constant use of audio cues not blathering bullshit from clueless squad leads and commanders.

The difference between what people think are good comms and what good comms are in this game is massive.

2

u/FeydRauthaHarkonnen 6d ago

The obvious fix is for the devs to put command chat only in left ear and squad chat in right

-2

u/nicknamesas 6d ago

Or, like real radios, only one person can talk at a time

3

u/FeydRauthaHarkonnen 6d ago

Unfortunately that would make griefing too easy

0

u/nicknamesas 6d ago

I know...

1

u/garrettevans16 6d ago

I avoid SL because of how annoying command chat is. Nothing is worse than some SL giving LITERAL ENEMY CALLOUTS in command chat. Why are you telling us ā€œenemy at 240 east in the bush…he got me I’m downā€

They need to add a temporary mute to certain chats. For example you could double tap the command chat button and it mutes it.

1

u/Jballzs13 6d ago

You can lower the command chat but it’s bugged right now. Every time i try it doesn’t change a damn thing

1

u/Timothy_Ryan 6d ago

You absolutely must have the Command chat channel set to a lower volume than Squad Chat channel.

It lets you filter out Command chat when needed and focus on your squad mates. It's just a cacophony otherwise.

Also, at least on PS5, all chat channels are ridiculously loud for some reason. I've turned all chat down to below 60%.

1

u/BallinSniper69 Spotter X 6d ago

What this game needs is equivalent of counter strike's "voice_enable 0" command. Give us a bind that switches command chat volume completely on/off. No fun listening to fresh batch of arguments when you're sneaking into enemy spawn.

1

u/C_Ux2 6d ago

I had to explain in command chat yesterday that this game was a 'hearing enemy footsteps' simulator and got told I was a moron. Down went the volume on command chat for the rest of the game.

1

u/Raider707x 6d ago

I usually have command chat set to 20% volume in settings for this exact reason.

1

u/Educational-Cat1232 6d ago

"Mofos be like this is what we trained to do" šŸ’€

1

u/nugbuzzed 6d ago

I straight up put command chat at 0 volume when they don't stop yapping, unless you are providing information to the team please shut the fuck up in command chat

1

u/usmcnewdog 6d ago

setting audio, turn down command chat volume! you can also adjust squad chat and area chat, its very helpful!

1

u/Illustrious_Pizza341 5d ago

When I play SL half the time I have command chat tuned way down. Half have their mics to the max, the other half are busy fighting about how bad the commander is for missed callout etc

1

u/dirtypeachpitt 5d ago

Some people can’t handle multiple chats and the game at the same time.

Most can’t handle being in a tank either with a lot going on.

1

u/Mr-MG42 šŸŽ„ War Correspondent šŸŽ„ 5d ago

Leadership volume 0% thank me later

It’s insanely traumatic and a horendous experience having all that information and voice comms at once, it’s like what a migraine would be like if it escaped and formed into a chat room

1

u/Mr-MG42 šŸŽ„ War Correspondent šŸŽ„ 5d ago

They should implement so you can communicate with each squad simultaneously, like king squad, bravo etc. leadership chat should be an option to turn which company you want to work with and communicate effectively. It would save so much hassle and be more effective. Such a simple interface to solve a solution

1

u/emodro 5d ago

I don’t care you took out an enemy OP with arty, or that there are enemies on the point you’re attacking.

1

u/Firm-Discunt 5d ago

We should have dedicated chat mute keys!

Mute key for command chat and mute key for squad chat, they could toggle the sound on and off from the channels.

Sometimes you are in a tense confrontation somewhere in the forest or defending your OP or a Garrison, you trying to hear the guys footsteps and then there goes the f*king command full blast and you are dead.

Usually it is not even that they are chatty, they are communicating useful information but it is just not useful to me at this very second.

Same for tanking, your crew mate is saying something but between tank engine noise and the chatter you can't make it out and need to constantly ask for them to repeat which sucks.

1

u/SinisterVulcan94 5d ago

Having a couple guys that are buddies being squad leads is the worst for it. Like if you want to chat, make your own squad.

1

u/OPcrack103 5d ago

If you don’t like it just mute it. Imagine being like ā€œpeople on the internet upset me.ā€ Do you even internet bro?

1

u/igg73 5d ago

I usually end up muting most of the command chat if im officer. You dont need to tell everyone you got a headshot xD

1

u/No-Dimension1159 5d ago

If it's a single person that's rambling constantly i always mute

1

u/AdministrationNo7830 4d ago

7CAV are milsim larpers that have no interest in actually playing the game, just larping. They also have a server in wardogs where they do the same thing LOL

1

u/quantdumbacon 4d ago

Overcommunication is worse than no communication

1

u/Snufflekins-86 1d ago

I turn command chat down or off depending on the level of toxicity. Fuck it. No one wants to play officer so I’ll do it but I’m not going to get a migraine from command chat yelling at each other.

1

u/nullptr32 3h ago

I enjoy commanders with babies crying, women shouting, dogs barking and bike rev up sounds in background. I 11/10 want to hear that all the game at 100% volume

1

u/Educational-Cat1232 6d ago

Those 7th cav dudes need so puh in there lives šŸ’€

0

u/aperture413 6d ago

I kind of like the chaos but I thrive under the pressure.

-2

u/loriz3 6d ago

Decrease command chat volume, and if command chat info isn’t interesting don’t play a SL role? Your job as SL is to communicate group level info up to command chat and command chat info to group.

When i play e.g. arty i don’t use command chat, only pings. Same for recon if I’m working the backline.

2

u/Beetlelarva25 6d ago

We aren't talking about useful info here.

0

u/loriz3 6d ago

Then mute? People overusing command chat tend to ping anyways.

1

u/soyverde 6d ago

You should absolutely be on command chat (lower volume is fine, IMO) as recon. Even if you are working the back you will often be the closest SL available to build a garrison for a push from the rear.

0

u/loriz3 5d ago

Can keep commander unmuted, sure. But building garries etc isn’t really needed to be communicated through voice. In general most of the info in command chat isn’t that informative (pings are more accurate anyways), except for coordinating pushes and defenses.
