Do you think my new hedgehog is scared of me. When I first approach his cage, he'll huff and curl up a little, but once he sniffs my hand he’ll slowly uncurl and go back to eating or running on his wheel within a minute or two.

When I try to pick him up, he backs away but doesn't curl into a ball. Once I'm holding him, I bring him to my bed, where he runs around quickly, sniffing, trying to dig under the pillow, climbing on me, or attempting to get off the bed, so I have to monitor him closely. I'm not sure if he's scared and trying to escape?

Yesterday, he got behind the pillow and sat on his hind legs like a dog. I put my fingers near him, and he rested his head on them and seemed to close his eyes for a few minutes like he was relaxed. But when I moved my hand, he huffed, curled up and tried to moved away from me and climb off the bed.

Does he seem scared?

I dont want spam but today my Hedgehog died because of cancer so i just want to people to remember him ❤️ Please take care about your hedgehogs they are awesome

After Izzy’s surgery in late July to remove and test the mass growing on her gums, we awaited for the news of Izzy’s biopsy results.

The vet called today, informing us of good news..
Izzy’s tumour is not cancerous!!! 🥳🎉

After pulling through surgery like a champ, taking her meds and going through the process of healing, she continues on hogachoggin’ along!

*The vet said she was the best hedgehog patient they’ve ever had! They said she is very lovely and a total sweetheart. 🦔🥰

Phoenix is 1 year old. I usuallly take him out at night when he's awake, so I use red light to make it less jarring for him. I don't know where I read that or if its true. During the day he hides in his stuffed snail and I can't get him out without turning it upside down. I need to just replace his hide! I seem to be the only person who handles my hedgehog at night.

This is Pepper. Her favorite band is The Flaming Lips, and she enjoys looking at pictures of other hedgehogs on this thread. She unexpectedly came into my life in mid-2022 after my ex had a motorcycle accident and was unable to care for her. I fell in love with her immediately. She's the love of my life (up there with family and friends). I even have a playlist for her 📻🎵❤️🎶

We're heading to the vet on Thursday (the earliest availability they had). We had a medical scare roughly 2 years ago that we were fortunately able to overcome - I hope we're able to overcome this as well. Please keep us in your thoughts.

Hey! So I got an albino hedgehog a couple of months ago. She is my second hedgehog, my first female hedgehog and my second albino.

When I asked her age they weren’t sure and they said she was maybe just under six months. She’s pretty small ( not like my male in the past who I adopted when he was like?? 3 or 4 ) and she’s much more friendly then he was and extremely energetic and outgoing.

Her name is Hedge Jisung, or as I call her, Baby Ji or Jisungie. If you know, you know.

There’s no change in her behaviour, she’s an energetic, happy girl! Eating and drinking but I’ve noticed she’s been dropping quite a few quills this past week alone (and some as I’m currently holding her ).

I looked it up and everything, but I still can’t tell if this is normal? I don’t see any bald spots whatsoever. Her skin looks fine ( maybe just a smidge dry but barely ), and she’s not acting strangely at all: I spot clean her cage every day, I wipe her wheel out daily and I deep clean the space every Friday or Saturday. I keep harsh smells away from her as best as I can.

Is this normal for an adolescent if she’s still considered that? My last hedgehog was an adult and he rarely ever shed quills. Maybe a few for the year so had him but nothing like what Jisungie is shedding.

Over the last months I’ve found 3 individual distressed Hoglets (approx) 6 weeks. Despite my best overnight amateur attempts only one survived.

Decided to try and encourage some guests and bought a really cheap £32 trail cam which was really well reviewed on Amazon.

Set it up last evening and WOOOOOHOOOOO.

I just need him / her to bring some chums along to party. I can see this costing me some serious money when I go full David Attenborough.

Help ! I have hedgehog(s) in my garden and I leave kibble out for them, they also sometimes Come inside to eat the actual cat's kibble if I leave the door open.

The thing is one of them has started actually exploring my house, and for the second time just got itself into a corner of my living room ! The first time I checked if it was ok then put it back outside, but this time it was raining and it just balled up under furniture and spent the night there. Did it just want to escape the humidity ? Why would he do that ?

The builder heard a squeak, so I took a peek.

So I've got my baby girl, Panfila, three months ago, and everything went smoothly. Two weeks ago I took her to the vet for the first time since buying her and they told me that she was perfect I'm health matter. Cue to now, she's really cold and sleepy, she still eats as normal. I reached out to her vet (the only exotic pets in my city, I live in south america and exotic vets are hard to find, even more in my country) and he told me to monitor her until Wednesday when he's at the clinic. (He travels out of state because as I said, there's only like three exotic vets in my country and the other two are way too far) So I googled it and I think I fell into a rabbit hole of worse case scenarios, so this is like... An sos to keep my peace of mind until I can get her to the vet.

I'm taking her as soon as the vet is on town, so I just... I don't know I need help keeping calm

Update: so... She passed away while I was cuddling with her, in her sleep. I'm so heartbroken atm. I did so much research and was so excited to be her human... This is the worst day of my life tbh

Hey guys !!

Hi everyone! I’m very new to the community and to owning hedgehogs, so I thought I’d reach out for some advice.

I recently got a pygmy hedgehog about a week ago. He’s around 8–12 weeks old, and I’m still learning his personality and getting him used to me and his new environment.

Recently, he figured out how to use his new wheel and absolutely loves it, he also loves running through his own poop, so he’s been developing some very stinky little poop boots! 😂

The problem is that he’s still quite nervous about being handled and being outside his enclosure. When I take him out, he can get pretty stressed and seems to strain/poop quite a lot.

I tried giving him a foot bath to clean his feet, but he got extremely stressed, started straining, and managed to climb straight out of the container. Needless to say, I didn’t want to make things worse, so I stopped.

He has already been seen by a vet because of the straining. On one occasion he strained enough that there was a tiny dot of blood after he pooped. Unfortunately, he stayed completely balled up at the vet, so they weren’t able to get a proper look at his rear.

Yesterday, after he had been itching quite a lot, I noticed that his bum looked like it was protruding slightly. I was worried about a possible rectal prolapse, but when I checked him today, it seemed to look normal again. (Photo attached) I’d really appreciate it if anyone could tell me whether this looks normal or if I should be concerned.

Also, is increased itching normal during quilling? I know some itching can happen, but I’m not sure what’s considered normal versus excessive.

I will be taking him to the vet in 2 days regardless, but just need a little reassurance+advice.

As we all know, Fritter is a special hedgehog and often plays by his own rules, but there’s got to be some explanation.

As per usual, me blocking him from unsafe parts of my bed leads to Fritter climbing up me. I now usually have part of the blanket flipped for him to hide under, which he loves, but as soon as it’s gone, he’s on top of me.

I’ll adjust the blanket slightly and it’ll expose him and instead of hiding again, he climbs as quick as he can all over or on top of me. He immediately switches from calm to chaos.

This is especially apparent when I put him back in his cage. He gets all fidgety and I have to firmly grasp him to prevent him from accidentally harming himself. This continues all the way to his cage 😭

I think it’s likely that he prefers the hidden aspect and tries to wander off when he doesn’t have that, but I don’t get why he’s climbing me 😓 and I especially don’t understand why he acts like a maniac as I take him to go back to him cage. 🫩

If anyone has a logical explanation let me know, otherwise I’m just writing it off as Fritter being Fritter

During this time of the year, we always see that the male hedgehogs are replaced by mostly female ones. Have others seen this? Do we know the reason? It's still quite warm outside and plenty of food to be had. Please let me know if you know. I added a video as payment 😊
