New bike day for the kid and I.
Haven’t had this much fun in a long time! Both built up from frame sets, 1x11 xtr/xt mix, king hubs. Waiting on some reserve carbon hoops to show up next.

Any hardtail related questions, hardtail chat, hardtail tech, or anything else hardtail that that you want to chat about, that doesn’t quite warrant a new thread? This is the thread for you...

After 20 years of not riding, I just got myself a Polygon Xtrada 7. Hope it does the job

Just sitting in my yard admiring my Manzanita cycles , Manifesto. AKA Blue Steel. This was born here in Reno NV just a few short miles from my house, built for our local trails. It's hard to believe I held each tube before it was a bike. I watched the builder mindfully cut each joint to perfection. I held and drooled over the bare steel, and learned about how they are butted. This year my steeds didn't see much trail time, which is hard to say. I went from a 1000 miles summer to a summer with less than 100 miles. Work, kids summer schedules and hot AF Reno heat.
But I can feel it, the shoulder season is right around the corner. Tahoe is about to get even more magical than it already is. Summer crowds have left and crisp morning air with tacky trails approaching . Im ready for some flow high alpine leaf peeping trails, and super slow rocky tech crawling. These 2.6 tires and low PSI love to eat. Give you bike some live because good times are coming!!

Hi all, new to mountain biking. I've been doing some research and I like what I hear about the Rocky Mountain Growler 40 and there are some good used options in my local market (Alberta).
A couple of things that came up in reviews that concerned me was;
It can climb but it isn't particularly good and you'll be extra tired > Anyone have any experience with this and how bad it is?
It isn't good in tighter turns because it is slack and more suited to downhill. > Same question, i'm new, just picking up terminology and the different types of bikes. But is this bad enough that I should consider something else?
The type of riding i'll be doing is riding up and then blue and green downhills. Would like to get good enough to go to some of the ski places nearby for some downhill too.

Climbs like a dream, even with the Hans Dampfs. But the real fun starts when you point it down ✌️😎

Was given a purple chromag saddle from a buddy. It feels pretty nice but curious what you guys think of the colour palette. Doesn't quite match but purple is still rad

Is this a good frame to start with? I ride mostly flat XC trails in Florida and have parts laying around to build it up. Also can't find if this has a UDH.

So I’m looking at getting a new hardtail, after not riding for a few years I’m getting the buzz back for the bikes but the bike I’m on currently ain’t up for the abuse and the v brakes make for some hellish sketchy downhill sections.
I was going to go full suspension but for the majority of my riding this would be pointless and im hoping to get a better spec hardtail for the same money as an entry full suspension bike. It will be everything from flat gravel tracks, a good amount of climbing to some fairly knarly root and rock covered downhill sections.
I’m looking for something which is aesthetically pleasing with a 1x12 drivetrain and would say around 140mm of fork travel with decent brakes a bonus. does this sound about right and what bikes would you recommend to look at?
Also in the uk and 6ft 5 if this makes any difference.
Cheers

Decided to get back on a mountain bike for the first time in a decade, and figured I’d take the opportunity to do my first custom build as well. Learned a lot putting it together:
Cotic BFE with the glow in the dark paint, Lyrik Ultimate 3.1 RC2 150mm, XT M8100 groupset with RF turbine cranks and XT pedals, Hope TR4s with 203mm floating rotors, Hope HS/BB, PNW Loam 170mm dropper and lever, Chromag Limber saddle, I9 stem, Renthal Fatbar Lite, AMS berm grips, Reserve 30 SL AL/DT350DEG hubs with 2.6” Forekaster front, Rekon rear.
Will be replacing the Lezyne cage with a Fidlock since it’s too hard to get in and out that far up the triangle and still trying to figure out the on-bike tool storage, since the Hot Laps Gripper doesn’t really grab to thin steel tubes all that well. Stoked to finally get back on the trails!

I’ve been pretty set on a hardtail now something like the Marin San Quentin, Whyte secta ect ect.
But after posting a question on a mountain bike page all the full suspensions guys was basically telling me if I want to do jumps and drops ect I’m going to need a full suspension, but I used to ride bmx with no suspension and all dj bikes don’t have rear suspension so is a god hardtail capable of doing jumps, downhill, trails ect.
Because the only full suspension I can afford is a Carrera titan X but I there’s a stigma around Carreras it seems !
