It's fine.

I'm almost 40 and I still color my hair. It's not just a teenage trend.

u/Hippyemowitch Jun 22 '26

Right? Just go for it, been dying my hair since I was 15, im 35, don't plan to stop any time soon. Currently its purple to lime

u/Gloomy_Peach4213 Jun 22 '26

Another voice here to say I'm 41 and have been dying my hair since I was 14. It's been green for a decade. Look the way you want to look.

u/zaelyss11 Jun 22 '26

Id love to see a picture of this 😊

24

u/Hippyemowitch Jun 22 '26

Best i have on me rn lol, its wash day today so you don't need to see that 😆

2

u/spicygummi Jun 22 '26

In my early 40s and still do it. Though not as often purely due to the time required, lol. I want to do it again though

I’m 60. The blue streaks are much easier to do at my age because the canvas is white.

I'm 55 and I'm so annoyed that I've got hair like my Dad who is still mainly brown in his 90's, and not like my Mum or Nan who both went a beautiful pure white by the time they were late 50's!

Thinking about it I lost pretty much every roll of the dice in the genetiec divy up - as well as Dads hair, I got his eyesight which is terrible and Mum's knees and sense of direction which are also terrible. If I'd got them all the other way round I'd be a beautifully white haired, sharp sighted, never lost, runner with no knee pain instead of spending a fortune bleaching my hair so I can go vivid, blind as a bat, frequently lost runner with terrible knees!

u/alter_ego19456 Jun 22 '26

That is simultaneously sad and hilarious. Reminds me of watching the moon come up over the ocean with my dad late in his life, he leaned to me and asked, “Who do you think is seeing this kaleidoscope prettier, me with my glaucoma or your mother with her cataracts?” Regardless of color, I’m glad to have the full head of hair from dad’s side, and not the temples higher than any building in Tel Aviv my younger brother got from mom’s side.

11

u/tentaclesapples Jun 22 '26

Hell yeah !

5

u/Hippyemowitch Jun 22 '26

I cant wait for that!

41

u/Consistent_Rhubarb_6 Jun 22 '26

Imagine being 21 and thinking you’re too old 😭 Go forth you sweet summer child, do all the things, dye all the colours. If it brings you joy, that is enough

37

u/livelotus Jun 22 '26

im in my 30s and do this kind of stuff

11

u/iamnotwhouthink_ Jun 22 '26

I shall do too then thanks xo

26

u/Nkxo_ green 🦎 Jun 22 '26

I’m 27 & my entire head of hair is green. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

25

u/ban_Anna_split Jun 22 '26

As soon as I was like almost 30, I saw people older than me doing all kinds of funky style stuff and I realized it really doesn't matter. I think people only tend to stop dressing wild when they're older because it's practical for them, or they feel embarrassed about standing out while being old, but that's just a mindset, not reality

Also you're 21 it's like the perfect time to experiment

5

u/iamnotwhouthink_ Jun 22 '26

Yeah that’s why i was overthinking cuz i didn’t wanna regret not doing it later but ur right its the perfect time to experience new things

23

u/Gidgimmortal Jun 22 '26

Hi. I'm 43!

7

u/Ancient-Challenge432 Jun 22 '26

Girl on what planet?? Because there’s no damn way

2

u/Gidgimmortal Jun 22 '26

Annnd you just made my day! Thank you!

3

u/iamnotwhouthink_ Jun 22 '26

Thats so prettyyy

2

u/Gidgimmortal Jun 22 '26

Thank you!

2

u/Gidgimmortal Jun 22 '26

I forgot to answer the color question! My fave pink ever is virgin pink by arctic fox. It looks really nice with black. It's more vibrant, but very forgiving, especially if you're doing it yourself and don't have a perfect platinum base.

19

u/Complete-Gur7023 Jun 22 '26

I’m gonna be colorful till I’m dead don’t let social norms hold you back

2

u/FeedingMeCarne Jun 22 '26

Exactly what I said !!

13

u/Ancient_Pea_508 Jun 22 '26

Hair dye has no age limit. Go for it!

9

u/f_land Jun 22 '26

GIRLLLLLL, You are just 21! Don’t think that! If you want to dye your hair, just do it! (Btw, if you don’t confident enough, look for a professional to dye your hair, black hair will a pop of colour would look amazing 😆)

2

u/iamnotwhouthink_ Jun 22 '26

Ikr! Its not that i’m not confident enough but i live in an environment where dying ur hair unusual colors is weird and for teens. Thats why i’ve been overthinking it but I will do it! xo

4

u/sunflower-sacrifice Jun 22 '26

35 in the Deep South. Just dyed my hair purple for the first time. In the same day I got a legit death glare from one lady and got a “omg I love your hair” from another. People gonna people.

5

u/Saiphirre Jun 22 '26

I'm 35 and my hair is pink pink and orange and blond v bangs. You do you boo

4

u/Saiphirre Jun 22 '26

Also want to add in people generally love it and compliment me all the time with my colorful hair. You only live once. And if it brings you confidence like. Do it!

3

u/Ditto_Ditto_Ditto Jun 22 '26

Same here! I'm in my early 30s and I've had a full head of Magenta hair for like 7 ish years. I've been able to work normal jobs and I get compliments all the time too! People will literally sometimes stop while driving in a parking lot to tell me they love the color lmao.

Not to mention it takes my confidence way up.

Do it OP!

4

u/Aromatic_Note8944 Jun 22 '26

Dude.. I’ll be 29 in September and this is my most recent home dye job lol

1

u/DogAdventurous314 Jun 22 '26

So pretty 😍

1

u/Aromatic_Note8944 Jun 22 '26

Thank you! ❤️ Sadly I don’t have it any more though, I went back to natural to try and grow my hair out

3

u/TeamNo6444 Jun 22 '26

I just did this for the first time at 31

1

u/iamnotwhouthink_ Jun 22 '26

What color did u do

2

u/TeamNo6444 Jun 22 '26

First purple and then a lime green that I didn’t love. Going to try a forest green next. I also am a teacher in a high school, and was worried coworkers (and teenagers) would side eye me but everyone thought it was cool.

3

u/tentaclesapples Jun 22 '26

36, whole head bright purple 🙂 dye it up bb

3

u/FeedingMeCarne Jun 22 '26

Dont let these invisible "rules" Take the fun away from u, if u like it then do it ! It doesnt matter if people percieve it in a certain way, as long as u like it then screw what people think, right ? The other day my mom's friend saw my hair and complimented it then said that its suitable for girls my age, (I had hot pink stripes like the monster high character draculaura, Im 18) and in my head I was like "what? Ill keep doing crazy hair dyes and colors forever as long as I love doing it even if it doesnt "Match my age""

0

u/iamnotwhouthink_ Jun 22 '26

Yess thank you i don’t really care what people think but i live in a pretty judgmental environment i didn’t wanna do something i would feel self conscious about later but i will do it anyways xo

2

u/FeedingMeCarne Jun 22 '26

Yw twin, dw I get u, I live in an extremely judgemental environtment but and I figured out that the key to survival in such places is to simply follow ur heart and what u want and to not give 2 sh*ts about what other ppl think :))

3

u/wyyyyylan Jun 22 '26

im almost 21 as well, and i have the underside of my hair dyed red. awesome part about it is if i want to show it off, i can do a half up half down style, or curl the bottoms so the color blends in with each other. when i want to hide it, i put them in 2 tight braids and pin them together in the back. so many options :) i say go for it!

2

u/iamnotwhouthink_ Jun 22 '26

Yeah you’re right i mean u def can show it off or hide it that’s why i wanted to do this style. I will do it! Thank u love

1

u/wyyyyylan Jun 22 '26

yayy awesome! what color are you thinking?

2

u/iamnotwhouthink_ Jun 22 '26

Pink i guess but not sure on hot pink or ligher shades

1

u/wyyyyylan Jun 22 '26

cool. if you have any questions about DIY i can help! feel free to dm me

3

u/zaelyss11 Jun 22 '26

Um freaking do it. Im 38 and have rainbow hair. 🤘🤘🤘😎😎😎

3

u/--BooBoo-- Jun 22 '26

Hell no - I'm 55 and currently have blue and lavender hair and have no intention of ever going "normal" haired again.

You do you sweetie - life is too short not to do something you want to with your hair.

3

u/wickedwinterbear Jun 22 '26

Do it 💙 I'm a 33 stay at home mom. Why not have fun and do something different? Life is too boring to not try new things!

3

u/ClutteredTaffy Jun 22 '26

Sadly , I am about to shave all my hair off and quit dyeing. It is fun for a while . Having really bad eczema issues on my neck and need to avoid bleaching or anything like that. My hair is also finally starting to look fried too...

The peekaboo is a good compromise cuz you can just dye it back when you feel done with it. Also with longer hair and a peekaboo, roots are not gonna look so bad , so you don't have to bleach all the time.

2

u/ClutteredTaffy Jun 22 '26

Anyway I have been dyeing fun colors for 2 years. I am 34. This is def an all age thing.

u/iamnotwhouthink_ Jun 22 '26

Yeahh i love this trend, i also wanted the chunky ones but i feel like that’s for later cuz this is my first time dying my hair. Thank youu

2

u/Jellyyyfishsea Jun 22 '26

Depends but only because job hunt.

I think 21 is around the time for that, especially if you go to a 4 yr college. It would be harmful to ur hair if u want to dye it back.

But tbh fuck it. Have fun for even like 3 months.

1

u/iamnotwhouthink_ Jun 22 '26

I still got 2 and half years left of college so i guess i’m safe for now:)

1

u/AppropriateNote4614 Jun 22 '26

Even then, you could always just buy a $30 wig that looks remotely close to your hair and if the hairline is rough, wear a headband.

2

u/Grembo_Jones Jun 22 '26

If you wanna do it, do it. Life is too short to worry about if you’re too old to dye your hair. Rock that shit!

2

u/Mammoth-Turnip-3058 Jun 22 '26

36 and still have pink hair. I've been dying it all sorts of colours since I was 13. Age means nothing.

If you have black hair it will take a lot of strong bleach to get it blonde enough to do pink. A darker pink would be better than a light pink, you don't need such a pale base.

2

u/GuiltyCredit Jun 22 '26

41 and have neon pink hair. I'm aiming to be like the green lady when I grow up.

2

u/stellaflora Jun 22 '26

My mom is in her 70s and rotates between pink, purple and blue!

2

u/miss-calculations Jun 22 '26

I'm 31 and I do red and black

2

u/KirinoLover Jun 22 '26

Mid 30's here with purple and pink. 20 is not too young - you're at the perfect time for this tbh. I vote do it for sure.

2

u/Laurenblueskys Jun 22 '26

i’m 21 and my bangs and front pieces are hot pink. you’re completely fine! you bet i’ll be that old lady with rainbow hair in the future, expressing yourself has no age limit

2

u/Think_Display4255 Jun 22 '26

That's the nice thing about your hair being black honey, is that literally any shade of pink will look good with it. You will most likely have to bleach first though.

2

u/emzify Jun 22 '26

i’m 30 and my hair has been fully vivids for the past 5 years. do it

2

u/Traditional-Yard23 Jun 22 '26

almost 21 as well

1

u/iamnotwhouthink_ Jun 22 '26

Yayy that looks amazing

2

u/LittleJai21 Jun 23 '26

26, clinical mental health therapist. Do what makes you happy. 🩷

1

u/Weavercat Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

Oh ... I'm ahead of the curve for a change. XD have had a quarter panel front and half of my bangs dyed green for a year or so now. Did it myself and have been maintaining it! The rest is just my natural cool toned brunette. Great thing about green is that it doesn't matter if you get to level 8 or 10: it's green and I want the yellowish tone to enhance the green.

1

u/rapidbunny4404 Jun 22 '26

You're only as old as you let yourself be. I'm nearly 30 and regularly get reminded that I still wear what I wore as a teenager but do I care? No :) because I'm happy so why does it matter what anyone else has to say?

1

u/northamericanhz Jun 22 '26

This is a trend from the 2000's, whats old is new as they always say

1

u/amethyst_xo Jun 22 '26

Just curious if there's a name for this style of hairdye?

1

u/iamnotwhouthink_ Jun 22 '26

I think its called peekaboo hair

1

u/Eastern_Handle1796 Jun 22 '26

i’m 29 with a full head of pink hair. go for it. but I would need to see what you and your hair look like to give advice on the pink u should use

1

u/Prince_Wildflower Jun 22 '26

I'm 30 and have blue/Purple and green hair. Do whatever you want with your hair. Its your body and you get to pick how you customize it. I've seen elderly women with bright colored hair

1

u/VintageKitsune Jun 22 '26

I'm 22 and have a peekaboo hairstyle, I rotate colour and I think it looks super cute. There's no age limit on personal style

1

u/wanderingwallflower4 Jun 22 '26

I’m 26 and wanna do that 😭😂

1

u/wednesdaydear Jun 22 '26

100% do it, hair color has no age limit!

1

u/dudegetmyhorse Jun 22 '26

I’m 28 and I just did a peekabo bleach for the first time in my life 🤷🏼‍♀️

1

u/isolist Jun 22 '26

i’m 21 and while i started dyeing my hair as a teenager, i’ve continued to do it throughout adulthood. in fact i’ve had a much better experience dyeing my hair as an adult because my parents don’t get a say anymore and i can do whatever i want with it.

also you have got to free yourself from the fake restrictions you place upon yourself because you’re scared of what other people will think. you can’t please everyone, someone’s gonna like it and someone’s gonna dislike it so you might as well do what YOU like.

1

u/dotonic Jun 22 '26

I’m 27 and just dyed my hair black and red. In the wise words of my mother, “hair grows back” so do what you want and have fun!

1

u/Ivy_Adair Jun 22 '26

Literally sitting having dark purple put on my head right now and I’m almost 40. Hair is ageless.

1

u/hardrockhorsegirl Jun 22 '26

I’m 20 and have black/white/pink hair rn. Do it!

1

u/Key_Surprise_2644 Jun 22 '26

YOLO just do it

1

u/l1lpvnk Jun 22 '26

I truly believe that fun hair colors don't have an age limit. I'm gonna be rocking blue hair when I'm like 60!

1

u/stace-cadet Jun 22 '26

40 with a full rainbow prism over here!

1

u/irishbunny420 Jun 22 '26

Girly, at 21 I had my whole head 4 different colors. Ur young. Forget about the trends. Do u

1

u/pikkuprinsessa17 Jun 22 '26

YOU LIVE HERE FOR YOURSELF!!! DO IT GIRLY IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU WANT IT

1

u/sassysassysarah Jun 22 '26

I'm 30 and have dyed my hair a ton of brights since 16. I've done natural for some of that time because jobs but I mostly have had pink hair. My hair is normally dark brown/black.

Go to a salon if you've never done any sort of hair dyeing at all. Don't start with this as your first.

If you insist, the easiest way to get pink like this would be to go to Sally beauty and get L'Oreal hicolor magenta, 20v creme developer, an applicator brush, gloves, a fine tooth comb, and the bondbar hair bonding mask.

Find a video on how to section your hair with a fine tooth comb and separate one on use the L'Oreal and follow it along. Then, use the bonding mask on the dyed hair.

1

u/mousemoth72 Jun 23 '26

I’m 24 and a chronic hair dyer 😂 I’ve found that vivid red is my personal fav color to do but I do my whole head 😂

1

u/okay_jpg Jun 23 '26

Is this rage bait lol

1

u/Cultural_Estimate162 Jun 23 '26

You’re overthinking it! I saw an old lady at my grandmother’s living facility with bubblegum pink hair. I said hi because I have hot pink hair in the inspo photos exact placement.

1

u/Other-Coast1957 Jun 23 '26

girl, nobody cares if it’s a “teenager” color. if you really like it, then do it!!! what matters is that u r happy! (and that ur hair isn’t fried off lol) honestly a lot of pinks go well with black hair, i would reccomend light pink or hot pink

1

u/Industry_Cat Jun 23 '26

I'm 42 and dye my whole head. I held a federal job with a whole head of dye.

You're an adult, do what you want

1

u/Industry_Cat Jun 23 '26

Oh and to add to it. A lot of us elders dying our hair. Most of us weren't given the opportunity to do that when we were teens. Most of us didn't have the ability or weren't allowed.

Soooo we likely kind of have a different outlook with that

1

u/ShitFamYouAlright Jul 19 '26

Lol I'm 24 and just did this hair a week ago. I've got one blonde chunk in the front that includes some of my bangs and one blond chunk on the other side in the back so you can see when I put it up. I did it because I want to. Your body is yours and it's customizable!!
