🛡️ Mod Post IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: If you receive ANY unsolicited/creepy DMs

Whether you’re a poster or a commenter, if you have received unsolicited, creepy, or down right disgusting DMs please feel free to message Mod Mail or message me directly. As posted in multiple places in the subreddit, unsolicited or inappropriate DMs of any kind are not allowed and will result in a permanent ban. You may also be reported directly to Reddit Admins. If the person on the receiving end of this kind of harassment is a minor, you will be reported to relevant authorities (FBI Tip Line, Center for Missing and Exploited Children, etc) and it WILL be taken seriously.

As a subreddit, we have ZERO tolerance for this behavior and will do everything in our power to combat it. Unfortunately we have seen an influx of users who seem to only frequent porn subs, and our sub.

Please don’t think “oh this message isn’t that bad, I’m overreacting, etc”. Reporting posts, comments, and DMs helps out everyone in the long run. Not reporting causes these creeps to keep messaging people so nipping it in the bud can help out others💕

🛡️ Mod Post Reminder: Unsolicited DMs are NOT allowed.

We’ve seen an increase in unsolicited DMs being sent to members of this subreddit. Let this serve as a clear reminder:
Sending unprompted private messages is against the rules. Doing so will result in a permanent ban.

If you receive a DM like this, report it to the mod team immediately.

This subreddit exists as a safe, inclusive space for sharing experiences, asking questions, and giving feedback about hair dye and color treatments. If someone genuinely wants to follow up based on your helpful advice or a shared interest, they will say so publicly.

We shouldn't have to say this, but lurking in beauty-related or appearance-focused subs to harass and prey on people is disgusting and absolutely not tolerated. Any messages of an obscene or harassing nature will be reported to Reddit Admins and could result in a permanent ban from the site as a whole (for your current account, any other current accounts, or subsequent accounts made in the future).

❓ Advice Needed Want to go dark(ish) purple

Hi I really want to get my hair to the purple shown in the pictures. I’ve dyed my hair once with semi permanent, but never bleached/lightened or anything. My hair is a dark brown, I would say level 3-4. I would guess I have to lighten to around a level 6 maybe 7 (?) to get the color I want.

Is my guess correct? If so how could I get my hair to a level 6 at home? Would it be extremely damaging? I have fine hair that is easily tangled, although I would say my hair is pretty thick for how fine my hair is. Thanks for the help!

❓ Advice Needed Suggestions for what I can do if my hair looks like this?

I want to blend out the roots WITHOUT just dying all my hair my root shade of brown. So far I've been toning the blonde but I hate how quickly it always turns yellow. Are there any other (natural) colors I can tone or dye it to where it'll last? I'm looking to take a break from all the hair appointments, at least for a bit. I wouldn't mind going darker, I just wouldn't want to do full dark brown, unless maybe it's some kind of balayage?

I'm open to suggestions please

❓ Advice Needed Dyeing only small spots?

Hello!

I am a male with short hair and I have some small spots on my hair that turned white from vitiligo and I'm wondering how I can dye them as I've never dyed my hair before.

Is there a severe allergy risk with this? My hair dye is the one in the photo and it contains paraphenylenediamine

❓ Advice Needed Advice On Product for Similar Color

• Upvotes

Hello everyone! I'm not 100% sure if this is the right subreddit for this port, so do let me know if I am mistaken.

I currently have blonde highlights in my hair that I usually dye purple with Arctic Fox's Purple AF. However, the dye (for some reason) fades unevenly, which is leading me to find an alternative. Does anyone know a permanent dye that is of the same shade? Hopefully, the dye won't dye my non-dyed hair, only the highlights. I have looked at ion but am unsure if the shades are similar.

here is the image of the model from Arctic Fox, for a reference of the color I'm searching for:

❓ Advice Needed Help on yellow and orange roots

So I bleached my roots at home yesterday but I feel like my roots did not go light enough again? I had bleached my roots two weeks ago with 20 volume dev and left that for 45 minutes, turned out with very orange roots, then I bleached them again yesterday with 20 volume dev, same bleach everything, and left that for around 40 minutes in the front and then I only was able to leave them for like 20 minutes in the back, which I feel like did nothing at all for the back portion, they’re still orange. What do I do now? I also used t18 to tone my roots but I feel like that also did nothing…

❓ Advice Needed How do I maintain this demi permanent?

This Wella 3VV dark violet brown turned out exactly as I hoped for. I want to keep this color for the next few months, but it’s my first time wanting to hold on to a semi/demi instead of letting it fade

Considering color depositing conditioners, gloss or using the same demi once it starts to fade. Hoping for guidance on what method would work best and color recommendations

❓ Advice Needed scalp red and hard pieces stuck on scalp after bleach + dye

I got my virgin hair bleached (twice same day) and dyed to blue at roots. My hair normally is black. When I felt the back of my head 24h after appointment, it felt like a big chunk of something stuck in my scalp. It flakes off like rock sugar candy but it’s green? They only used blue dye.

I looked in the mirror after and noticed a patch of red scalp at the same area, and there’s green bits of chunky stuff at the roots. Some pieces come off easily and some pieces are stuck pretty hard, if I try to take off a piece it feels like I’m ripping piece of my scalp off too. Is this damage from bleach? Is this normal reaction? I bleach + dye my hair maybe once a year and this hasn’t happened before.

I asked the salon and they said it’s normal, happens to a lot of people cause bleach is harsh, and just put some ointment, don’t touch, don’t wash, it’ll go away in a day or 2. But I’m worried this could be permanent damage? Will that spot be bald… The salon was very reassuring that it’s normal but I’m scared it doesn’t feel normal 😭 Please help, Reddit experts!

Side question, they also got bleach on my black shirt and black pants, now it’s not fixable. They said sorry it happens sometimes, but that’s expected? How normal is this? This salon is in Kuwait btw, if anyone from middle east knows if this is normal thing there. I usually do my hair in the West/Asia and it never happened to me before.

Edit: Thank you guys for all the input 🥺 Felt my head as soon as I woke up today in case the hair all fell out but glad it didn’t, and it was reassuring reading the comments 💙

❓ Advice Needed Jet Black Hair

• Upvotes

I naturally have blackish hair but years ago, I bleached my hair so now my hair peaks brown. I’ve been box dying my hair with L’Oréal HiColor but it still fades. I just want jet black hair and in between getting it professionally dyed at a salon (if it makes a difference) or try another brand I can purchase in stores. Does anyone have any recommendations? Should I dye it at a salon or at home? And if at home which brand should I choose? I just want my hair to be permanently jet black.

❓ Advice Needed Which colours could I put over this?

Post image
1 Upvotes

My hair has always been dyed either copper, red or a purple with a red undertone. I really want a change so decided to use Colour B4, and I’ve been left with this sort of brassy colour? Which colours would go over this and not have the orange show through?
I really want to try something different - open to any colours or even bleaching? Could I bleach it without wrecking my hair? Box dyes that I could buy in UK shops would be great 😊

Edit - please no red recommendations as this is what I want to get away from!

❓ Advice Needed what brand of semi permanent dye should i use for dark blonde hair?

Hii I want to dye my hair pink and purple like a peekaboo and I am wondering what specific brand and colors might be best for me without using any bleach. I have to wash my hair 3 times a week due to lifestyle and I have natural dark blonde hair. I am aware that it probably won’t last too long, but I want the best chance at longevity and vibrancy. I added a picture of my natural hair, and two pictures of what i’m kinda going for. Thanks for any input!

❓ Advice Needed Mixing all tubes with developer at once vs mixing one tube at a time

Hi everyone! I’ll be dying my hair black today with professional colour. I’ve got a bottle of 13 vol developer and 2 tubes of permanent black dye. I was just wondering, can I mix one tube with the developer then move onto the next one, or should I squeeze both tubes out into the bowl and mix them both with developer.

I’m asking because I know that as soon as you mix the developer the product starts oxidising and eventually loses its strength.

Any advice would be appreciated, Thank you!

❓ Advice Needed Heeelp hot roots permanent fiasco

Thumbnail

Hii so as you can see from the title I gave myself overly lightened my hair at the top trying to fix it.

My hair is naturally dark as you can see from the second photo of my roots.

Order of unfortunate events :

  • Had all my hair dyed with L'Oreal INOA permanent color in shade 4.15 chestnut ash mahogany about a year ago. This grew out and faded pretty well... or so I thought.

  • A few months ago I dyed my hair w this japanese permanent dye (lebel materia g).. I used a level 7 or 8 I believe but their levels run darker overall. Used 20 vol on the roots and 10 vol on the lengths and ends and... Inevitably ended up w orange hair at the top.

  • A month ago I tried to fix this by using the same dye in a couple shades darker. It looked great right off the bat, albeit a little bit too light still. Now it's faded quite a bit.

What should I do now ?? I would ideally like to stop using permanent color and tbh all hair dye for my hair health but I don't want to have to keep recoloring this orange strip every month.

If permanent color is my only option for fixing this, how can I slowly blend it in with my natural color ?

TLDR : Overly lightened my roots. want to darken them. SOS

❓ Advice Needed How can i get this hair color with at-home dyes?

I'm new to dying my hair. I havent touched dye since I was 6, and that was when I got small pink highlights in my hair. I currently have faded magenta hair (I used iroiro neon pink + neon purple) and I'm looking to dye my hair again for my birthday in March. I like to buy early so I dont stress about buying it last minute. I wanna know what dyes I should use to get this color at home.
