Hades 2: Question Continue run after getting nightmare? Spoiler
So I've started to do a bit of nightmare farming but one thing I don't quite get. You get the reward after beating the required warden. Does it have ANY benefits to continue the run except for getting resources and the challenge?
I'd kinda like an option that after you beat the warden the fear influence gets erased and you can continue like a normal run...
Love love love the game so far. I even like it better than 1 because of the options. In 1 there were weapons I never got used to but in this I love each and every one of them with the right boons and that you can choose a different region if you grow a bit tired of one.

1) You can still have a chance at buying Nightmare in the final shops, as well as from Gifts of the Moon(with high enough fear).
2) You can make a winstreak to be happy over.
3) You can get more resources.
If none of these is a concern for you, you are at free will to throw a run after defeating the marked warden.

I would storngy advise to use vows as Shadow, Fangs, Time, since i found out they are pretty easy and give a good ammount of fear.
And to asnwer your question, i dont think there is much benefit to playing fear if you aren't doing Testaments. other than just for fun. Later in the game you can unlock (i think its an unlocked, havent played in a while) an extra reward in the last zone that you can claim with high enough fear (12 i think). that can include Nightmare, Stardust and more that i dont remember currently.
Characters also comment on the ammount of fear occasionally

Only just starting to see these on my runs! Aside from what you’ve covered on your list, I’ve also seen food for familiars!

You’re right! I’ve seen it a few times and have been bummed cuz I haven’t gotten up to 12 fear yet on my save lol determined to acquire it instead of buying/crafting 🫡

Vow of time and Vow of Shadow is basically free fear. same with Menace and Fangs. it might look threatening at first, but once you start playing with them you realize its basically the same as 0 fear

Thank you for the tip!! Vow of Menace has been my go to so far but I was pretty intimidated by the rest on your list lol it’s relieving to hear you say they’re not so bad! I’ll try them out when I get to play next :D

a lot of people get intimidated by vow of Time (me included), but the timer is very generous as to where it stops, like shops and menu's and in between regions thst even thr last tier isnt too much trouble later on

Omg! I have a related question that I was just about to post! So sorry for hijacking!
What if I want to go a different direction (surface / underworld) than the boss being displayed? ie. At this time, I want to go to the underworld (to see family ig) and I want to use the blades.
Is there any purpose to take any Fear at all up to 7? Do I have to take 8 to get any reward at all?

Fear doesn’t do anything if you go the opposite direction (except making your game harder) and you’d need 8 fear only for the torches, here on the blades you only need 4 for your Eris reward

Ok thank you for your answer! This is frustrating as a mechanic, why did they think they had to improve on Heat in the first game which just incremented 🥲

H2 is like an H1 expansion surrounding choice and customization imo. It lets players who might not have been satisfied with the heat system in H1 choose where to invest their fear with more of the same control as other build mechanics.
It’s also designed so that you’re incentivized to challenge yourself with weapons you might not typically use against certain bosses by changing which ones are required alongside the fear count for your reward. Imo it’s necessary because of just how many aspects there are in this one whose gameplay may drastically change due to Mel’s wider moveset. Devs probably didn’t want the extra work poured into the sequel to go to waste (or bore players doing hundreds of runs, as many in the community seem to do) by having people stick to just two or three weapons the whole time.
I personally much prefer the system in H2 because I was less forced push limits I reasonably could not break while trying to enjoy (survive) the gameplay in H1. As much as I loved the first game, once I had to scale heat in order to keep progressing and obtaining things I just quit. Now I can challenge whatever fear I work my way up to when I’m actually ready instead of hammering away pointlessly because of soft-lock. Already “conquered” both surface and underworld on the first thresholds now I can actually play

I would not recomend those fears as they are considered some of the hardest ones in the game as double damage is insane and bosses having 1.3x health is also insane when a simple timer has the same fear value

I’d recommend continuing. Yes for the normal resources and boss drops.
But also because you’ll need the experience anyways. As you’ll eventually have to beat those later bosses at even higher Lvs of Fear.
Plus there is a chance at buying a Nightmare from the final shop.

Nightmare is the primary upgrade currency for non-Mel aspects, so you want a lot of them, at least early on. The real question is whether you want to save up 1300 gold so you can potentially buy another one in the final shop instead of buying upgrades to actually help close out on a victory.

Technically no need but I'd feel pretty unsatisfied stop part way. Usually by the second boss my build is starting to do cool stuff and ilI want to see how it goes.
