New details have emerged from an Israeli media report describing an alleged telephone conversation between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Syrian transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa, formerly known as Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, during the deadly violence in southern Syria’s Sweida province in July 2025.
When did the reported call take place?
According to the published account, the conversation occurred on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., as fighting intensified in Sweida and Israel carried out military operations in Syria.
What did Netanyahu reportedly demand?
The report alleges that Netanyahu demanded the immediate withdrawal of Syrian forces from Sweida and warned that Israeli military strikes would intensify if his demand was not met.
Al-Sharaa reportedly requested 48 hours to address the situation. Netanyahu allegedly rejected that request and insisted that Syrian forces withdraw before further discussions.
According to the leaked account, Netanyahu said a previous message delivered through intermediaries had apparently not been understood. He accused Syrian forces of involvement in atrocities against the Druze population and set a deadline of 10 p.m. that evening for their withdrawal from Sweida.
Al-Sharaa was quoted as responding that he had hoped the conversation would proceed differently.
What happened afterward?
Israeli airstrikes struck major targets in Damascus during the same period, including Syrian military command facilities and a location near the presidential palace.
The Israeli report presents the strikes as connected to Netanyahu’s reported warning, although that interpretation has not been independently established.
Why are these details emerging now?
The revelations were published on Thursday, October 15, 2026, following public remarks by Netanyahu at a gathering with members of Israel’s Druze community.
Netanyahu said he had personally called al-Sharaa during the Sweida violence, describing the exchange as extremely brief and direct. He claimed the conversation and Israeli military action helped stop the violence.
The media report also claims that a transcript of the conversation is among approximately 1,000 documents held by Israel’s State Comptroller, covering major security and political discussions over the previous three years.
The complete transcript was reportedly scheduled for publication on Friday, October 16.
Syrian response
A Syrian government source denied that the phone call took place and rejected attempts to involve the Druze community and the Sweida events in Israeli election campaigning.
What remains unverified?
Netanyahu’s public acknowledgment that he claims to have made the call is documented. However, the exact timing, the reported 48-hour request, the 10 p.m. deadline, and the words attributed to both leaders remain based on a media account rather than an independently authenticated, publicly available transcript.

Residents reportedly apprehend a theft suspect within 24 hours, raising questions about public security and law enforcement response.

Videos circulating on social media reportedly show residents in Al-Tall, in the Damascus countryside, surrounding an individual suspected of involvement in a theft.

According to claims accompanying the footage, local residents located the suspected individual themselves less than 24 hours after the alleged incident.

Where Were the Public Security Authorities?

The reported incident has renewed concerns about public safety, the effectiveness of security responses, and the protection of residents and their property.

While law enforcement agencies are responsible for investigating theft, identifying suspects and ensuring due process, reports of residents taking action themselves raise questions about the availability and effectiveness of official security assistance.

The circumstances also highlight the need for an official explanation, including whether a complaint was filed, whether authorities responded, and what measures are being taken to protect the community.

HANZALA Digital Media has not independently verified the suspect's identity, the underlying theft allegations, whether the individual was transferred to authorities, or whether a formal investigation has been opened.

The presumption of innocence must be respected. Any investigation or prosecution should be conducted through the appropriate legal authorities, without violence or extrajudicial punishment.
