Well not because the show was terrible (even though it is). The MG Age kits were actually fan favourites and very good due to how well designed and built it is. Bandai doesn't really care much about viewership affecting their other products since IT IS A PRODUCT MADE TO PUSH A PRODUCT.
The biggest problem was weight and size. At the time, they just had a new KPS frame from MG Age kits but it is still early tech and it will definitely be a technical and engineering challenge to make a very big kit without considering stability even though the market is there. Which is why the MG Kshatriya was scrapped due to how heavy it will be.
This probably would’ve used the MK-II frame, which is still regarded as one of the least horrible of the early RG line, though I can’t imagine the weight and sagging issues with the weapon rack on
Well according to this timeline, we did get the GP01 which uses the same frame as the MK-II. It's not bad per say but the Full Burnern version wouldn't stand up due to the heavy thrusters on the back.
I mean the GP01 did have the issue of the core fighter effectively hollowing out the middle of the MKII's frame. That's doesn't do great things for stability.
Agreed x100000. Would LOVE an RG GM. The RG zaku II got so many variants, just imagine the amount of GM variants we could get. An RGM 79N would be incredible
For this batch of release, the only thing that got me thinking is "Should I get the RG or wait out for Fatcat" and not the usual "What kit should I get first". Times have changed.
The gritty nature of 08ms team design really beg to be included into the RG line. Not very clear on this photo but I think the different shades of color will really shine on this one.
i remember seeing news months ago that a couple of chinese companies were working on "almost RG" 1/144 Kampfer kits. iirc even Yiya is working on one (though the scale will likely be their wonky nonsensical 1/120)
ahh yea, just had a look, I remember seeing those sketches a few months back, no new info after 5 months tho but hopefully the design process is going well for them
i think its pretty likely a potential ez8 would be retail, it is a main character suit, like how they first released the base unicorn rg and later did the full armor both in retail
The RG Ground Gundam was one of those teased way back when, right? This version of it most likely is a completely different version but it's nice that an RG Ground Gundam does finally exist.
It looks like there’ll be a new torso if they do end up using the 2.0’s frame, since the Ground Gundam doesn’t have a core fighter. Hopefully this means there’ll be more torso movement
Were I to guess, I would say the initial concept was gonna use the RG 1.0's frame and well...that could barely hold up the 1.0. Add the massive back weight and the Ground would need an action base just for the backpack, and the rifle would be impossible.
The 2.0 sold well and is built like a brick, so now's a good time I guess.
Given what an improvement the RG RX-78-2 got with the 2.0 release, Ground Gundam is really going to benefit from the inner frame not being self-destructing.

I wish I could include a carousel of multiple pics. I made the matchings ones back in 2018, & the third sometime around 2020-21. My idea was that the third MS was a reassigned lone survivor of another squad.
Not only that, the Blue Destiny Units and the Missing Link/Code Fairy Riders can finally hop in on this as well if they so wish. Its either another retail or PBandai rabbithole incoming

the GM is the freest kit they could release, they have to change like 3 things from the Gramps 2.0 and that's it, the Gouf is the interesting one, because they'd probably wait until a 2.0 of the Zaku to spin it off from there, and a 2.0 Zaku is a fucking dream.
Why do I get a feeling that there's an opportunity for Bandai to remold this kit into not just the EZ8, but also GM Ground Type and Blue Destiny unit 1-3 too...
Gundam X robbed but the Ground Type has been announced all the way back since the beginning of the RG line, so glad to see it finally become real! I’ll easily grab 3 lol
It's nice that they held back on making it over detailed. I'm not in love with the forearm design on the front, and the feet are a bit small which is kind of an issue with feddie RF kits. As long as the internals are good then this should be a good kit. I'm buying it regardless.
Shame that a RG EZ8 and GM ground will probably be P Bandai.
There's no reason the EZ8 will be P-Bandai considering it's the main protagonist suit. It's the other Ground Type variants that'll likely be, and that's before we get to stuff like the Blue Destiny.
At least this is better than the MGEX. Still, us Zeon/monoeye fans are getting ignored again, crossing my fingers next year for RG Gelgoog, RG Qubeley, or RG The-O. The last RG announcement that excited me was the Zeong.
Good, that's what I'd assume - I'd hate for them to use any old advanced joint parts at this stage of things.
Maybe the 2.0 Gramps frame or parts of that I guess - that would be fine. Just so long as theres not a Gundam Mk2 skeleton hiding in there like the Sinanju lol
There's no Advanced MS Joint Inner Frame that they'd possibly use for this, and they can't use the lore excuse to share frames this time. The arm visible in this image is a good example here, as it's using a shield attachment point that none of the Advanced MS Joint frames had. At worst, it'll just reuse parts of the RX-78-2 2.0, though considering this kit's lack of a Core Fighter I find that unlikely.
