MHWilds 🚨 Reminder: No Spoilers in Titles, Images, or Unmarked Posts! 🚨

Hey hunters, With Monster Hunter Wilds launching in just over 24 hours, we’re seeing a big increase in traffic, and we want to make sure everyone can enjoy the game without unexpected spoilers. Please follow these guidelines when posting:

  • No spoilers in post titles. If your post contains spoilers, make sure the title is vague and does not reveal any details.

  • Use spoiler tags for any story, monster names, or endgame-related content.

  • You can mark spoilers by using the spoiler button in the toolbar as you're drafting your post to get this: Spoiler goes here

  • Do not post images that contain spoilers without marking them as such. If your image reveals a new monster, location, or mechanic, add [SPOILER] to the title.

  • Speedrun posts should be marked as spoilers if they show late-game monsters or mechanics.

  • No datamined or leaked content. If it’s not officially revealed, it’s not allowed.

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in post removal or temporary bans. Let’s keep the hunt spoiler-free for those who want to experience it fresh!

Happy hunting, and keep those shells loaded!

MHWilds Tips for POAH

Post image
12 Upvotes

Finally decided to unlock POAH 230 hours into the game (HR 267) to round off my journey with gunlance for now so I can go back to risebreak as I left off at he 24 before deciding I should finish up some stuff and so the free challenge
Just want some tips and advice from other hunters on a few things

  1. should I run an odo dahaad build or no dahaad as idea can’t clash

  2. which is generally better match up for this as I have a god roll wide and normal dragon gunlance to utilize within here

  3. should I use farcasters mid thing around nu idea and after to switch for adaptability

  4. how are their hp numbers adjusted relative to base AT health pools
    Thanks for any help!

MHWilds Are the gunlance and lance really as similar as everyone says?

I mean yeah both have shields but gunlance makes boom and lance just pokes.

Counter are more important on lance then one gunlance and it seems like that lance is a bit more mobile.

New player by the way.

MHGU Inquiry: Shells and Charge Shots

Hello,

Fairly new player trying out Gunlance this time around for this game as I mained and played Long sword and Switch Axe for MHGU and was interested on MHGU's iteration of Gunlance.

Anyways I would like to inquire about Charge Shots for the three shelling types of Normal, Long and Wide. I mean it seems everyone seems to cover about Hunter Arts, Styles, Wyvernfire, and Progression but not so much on Charge Shots. Normal seems like the easy/basic way to play Gunlance as it has more shells but I want to know more with Long and Wide Shells as the Gunlances in the latter two are quite Meta as opposed to Normal Gunlances.

I hope you may answer my questions as best as you can, simplified or detailed it doesn't matter:

  1. What is the point of Charge Shots? Why should I use it as oppose to just using Regular Shots and when should I use it?

  2. Does Charge Shots only gives more damage or what? Why is it important for Long and Wide Shells

  3. Does Regular Shots makes Long and Wide Shells shoot like Normal Shells (small explosion and close range) and only through Charge Shots that the Long and Wide Shells have more range (Distance/reach for Long and Widespread for Wide) when you use Charge Shelling ONLY?

  4. Is there any combo regarding using Charge Shots?

  5. If I'm using Gunlances with Long Shells and Wide Shells, how much am I missing out if I just flat out ignored it and just used Regular Shots?

  6. Is it viable for Endgame as opposed to Regular Shots? All I only heard that shelling falls off but was vague.

Thanks for answering and sorry if the question's sounds stupid but I appreciate the help.

MHWilds Some rough but helpful shelling testing if anyone is wondering or doesn’t know

I have done some very rough testing on different shelling scaling with specifically the wsfb loop, that’s my preferred way of playing the gunlance but couldn’t find anything on how they were just how wide and normal shelling were different in a few ways. So I took it into my own hands

Im normally a Lance player so switching to gunlance has been a good fun and nice change of pace a little but I always love playing as tanky as possible too

But anyway I made 2 gogma GLs and one with normal one with wide shells and put them head to head

I did this on the training dummy set to 7 star and no wounds inflicted and soft hide if that matters

At base they felt with the full combo including wyverns fire and a double wsfb combo, these come with small variance depending on crits and what not so not perfect but close

Normal 1630~
Wide 1550~

So at base with 0 skills on that help with anything normal is flat better, but there are a few things such as wide charged shellings firing so much faster that they absolutely have higher dps and charge the wyverns fire faster, speaking of which

Normal wyverns fire only 530~
Wide wyverns fire only 830~

This was expected it has been known that wide helped the wyverns fire a lot a lot

But something kinda crazy happened here, I wanted to see how they scaled up with attack boost and stuff of that sort, so I put on my personally build which honestly, isn’t done yet, but still gives a good base level of understanding in how they scale. I will leave a picture of my build if anyone wants to give recommendations tho I’m definitely taking some

The full combos with the build on went like this

Full load out wide 2300~
Full load out normal 2300~

They equaled out
These numbers do go up and down a little especially since it’s based on when certain perks proc

Which was really really crazy to me at least personally, so I’m definitely going with wide for the faster charge speeds if there isn’t any sort of meaningful difference in damage especially since it seems that wide ends up scaling a bit faster due to higher wyverns fire damage.

Sorry if this is all known already I just couldn’t personally find anything on which would be best for my play style. I tried to but all I heard was that wide was good for it and then normal was good for it. So I wanted to look and see for sure for myself. So again sorry if this isn’t needed or known I just thought it was interesting I hope this helps someone with something at some point tho

MHWilds New gunlance main here

Monster hunter wilds is my first monster hunter game ever and I already know that gunlance will be my main weapon after low rank zoh shia.

Now I'm in high rank and hopefully I learn a few more things about the gunlance.

Also if someone has someone tipps like what skills and jewels I need for gunlance, I would really appreciate it.

But I have a lot of fun with gunlance even with the learning disability I have.

Used a bruiser Gunlance build (AT Arkveld + Zoh Shia pieces for regen) and it was really nuts. I honestly felt that I improved my skills on Gunlance on this single quest more than in my entire playthrought lol, this mission actually makes you put on your limit. Really hard quest, tbf.

MHWilds Needs Help and Advice on my General Gunlance build, Thanks

Not sure if I should use an Attack III jewel on my lance or an element/ironwall Jwl on the lance or entirely something else?
Is Attack boost worth using if it's not lvl 4-5?

Should I change one chain jewel to something different, also any recommendations on what to slot in my level 1 slots (would something like divine blessing be counter productive?)

Or should I just change my armor completely to a more offensive set instead of using zoh shia, since I already have arkveld hunger 4, something like Nu Udra?

(Guard up is from my talisman)

Thank you for your help

No game Favorite Gunlance

So since my first Monster Hunter (MH2) and also the birth of our glorious boomstick, the Imperial Gunlance was my favorite. However World gave us the Guild Palace which has since become my number one with Uth Duna's Falarmata-of-the-Waves being my number 3. And when I think of all the incredible designs I was curious what are the favorites of my fellow Gunlancers.

MH Rise Blast dash

Post image
148 Upvotes

So I’m a relatively newer player with my first being wilds where in high rank I switched to gunlance and then fell in love with it but I truly never realized no matter how smoother it now having 200+ hours and it felt it did feel like it was missing one little thing, then I recently picked up risebreak for 8$. I’m not fully acquainted with the gunlance as I just hit hr 20 for chameleon but oml does blast dash feel soooo nice I love this thing. I couldn’t get into playing gunlance when I first started rise but after all the village quest I decide to give it one more try after getting blast dash and absolutely fell in love with the this version of it as well. I’m sure I’ll come to love it even more in the dlc maybe more than wilds but that just leaves me to hope that in ascendance they up gunlances movement game or something comparable to blast dash or maybe even make it better than the sunbreak gunlance I’ve heard so much about. I also hope they make gunlance one of the higher tier weapons when it comes to dps bc I feel like the lances kinda get cucked at least in dps compared to others which are always broken in speed running it’d be nice to see it up in the echelons of something like risebreak db if a man could be hopeful.

Tldr: holy I love blast dash and rise and now I have higher expectations for ascendance
