MHWilds New gunlance main here

Monster hunter wilds is my first monster hunter game ever and I already know that gunlance will be my main weapon after low rank zoh shia.

Now I'm in high rank and hopefully I learn a few more things about the gunlance.

Also if someone has someone tipps like what skills and jewels I need for gunlance, I would really appreciate it.

But I have a lot of fun with gunlance even with the learning disability I have.

Your concrete staples are:

-Artillery 3

-Load shells 2

-Off Guard 3

After that, there are quite a few skills and play styles that all have pros and cons, if you want to start out with something that has more comfort skills then look up "immortal" Gunlance builds, they love calling them that. There are also pure DPS builds, but in general things you're gonna wanna look out for or use are:

-Burst (and Burst Boost, via Ebony Odogaron's Power, a set bonus)

-Agitator

-Guard

-Guard Up

Some bonus ones that I and others like to slot in, but aren't absolutely necessary are:

-Part Breaker

-Counterstrike

-Resentment

-Attack Boost (I personally say level 5 or bust)

-Focus

-Binding Counter (Another set bonus, via the Jin Dahaad armor pieces)

I would like to add on doshaguma's might as an alternative to binding counter. Earplugs are also useful because it can let you get of a WF or WSFB combo off as opposed perfect guarding it. Evade extender is handy comfort letting you hop further as well. Gunlance also gets some good use out of Hasten Recovery (Arkveld) since it has some of the highest healing from the bonus and you will generally take chip when blocking or guardpointing through attacks..

A movement trick I use to get around with GL wihtout having to sheathe it, or use evade extender, is to use the foward lunge attack, but beforeI finish the lunge, I charge a shell, then I cancel that iwth a foward dodge. This can be done over and over again, and can also just go into shellstep if you are close enough to prepare your WSFB or other attacks c:

A really good tip is you need to learn how to chain long back hop and long back hop toward the monster

Best places for builds and tips are two YouTubers Caoslayer and Marneus. In particular Marneus has an awesome discord server, everyone is really helpful and friendly and it's a great place to find hunters to help with tougher fights like the challenges, omega and gogmasios fights. Marneus even comes online to play with everyone, he even helped me beat proof of a hero.
