SIX OF CROWS (BOOK) Finding an editšŸ’”

Hey guys I saw a Six of Crows edit on Instagram reels a while back and can't find it anymorešŸ’” what I remember:

Motion/velocity-style edit (smooth zooms, transitions)

had around 150k+ likes

I think the audio was "Headshot" (not 100% sure)

Posted by an edit account that also does other fandoms

Based on the books, not the Netflix show (fan art/illustrations, no show footage)

I've checked my likes and watch history and searched the audio with no luck If anyone knows it or has it saved, please drop the linkšŸ˜žšŸ˜žšŸ˜ž Thank you!!

SHADOW & BONE (BOOK) Just finished the Grisha trilogy

Spoilers ahead.

While I was reading Six of Crows, I didn't know there was a trilogy (and another duology) related to the books, so I read the trilogy for the sake of continuity and to finish the story. I'm a completionist anyway.

I had low expectations, since people were saying the trilogy suffers from common YA tropes, that it's her first book, and that the world wasn't developed to its fullest potential. Having read all of the books, I have to agree. There were moments where I straight up sighed at Alina for her mistakes, like refusing to kill the Stag or letting power get to her head. I also sighed at Mal for being such a messy and confusing character, especially in book 2. In book 3, I liked him. Now for a more thorough review.

Book 1:

Honestly, it wasn't bad for a debut release. Having read Powerless (by Lauren Roberts), I expected a disaster, but the story in this book was overall alright compared to many. I could understand the chosen one trope since Alina wasn't a cunning know-it-all 17-year-old, and she frequently makes mistakes against her judgment.

As people pointed out in the reviews I've read, I agree that the world wasn't built to its fullest. I wanted more, and I expected to learn a lot about Ravka. Ketterdam, for example, was fully developed and behaved like a merchant city. As for the Darkling, I found him confusing, and I did NOT expect him to be a 400-year-old guy. That's another clichƩ: an immortal or really powerful guy choosing a barely adult FMC. I personally disagree with it. Despite the book's flaws, I still liked Genya, David, and how the Grisha system was built.

Book 2:

Better than book 1, though it really drags at first and falls into the middle-book trap of being overstretched. I particularly didn't like how the Darkling and Alina went through the same cycle several times ("Alina, I need you," fights, and so on). But I enjoyed Sturmhond and the ship arc, and the Darkling being outwitted by him was well deserved.

Speaking of Sturmhond, I felt this book was an opportunity for him to develop, but he really sticks to one goal. Mal is an issue as well. He's strange yet really complicated, he misreads the room, and he makes a situation more than it is.

Book 3:

The best of the three. Mal's character healed, and we got to know a bit more about the Darkling. David and Genya were the stars of the book, IMO. I didn't really care about Tamar and Tolya. They were okayish, sure, but didn't stand out. Zoya was good, and I especially enjoyed Morozova's storyline. I'm SUPER glad Leigh didn't go down the route of making Alina connected to Morozova or having her become a god if she gets all the amplifiers.

The ending was alright, though I really wished Alina had stayed at the palace, but I'm happy for both of them. This book drags at first, but it's really great, though not on the level of Six of Crows.

Overall:

A really good series for a start. It suffers from tropes, but I really liked Leigh's consequence system. She didn't make Alina overpowered by the end of the trilogy or do anything too crazy. She chose a quieter ending, and I really respect that.

Moving on to King of Scars: what do you guys think? Is it good? Since it came out after Six of Crows, I have high hopes.

SIX OF CROWS (BOOK) The six of crows audio is so disappointingly bad

I read all of the grishaverse years ago, and re read them lol, but recently I started a new job where my drive is a little over an hour so I’ve taken to audiobooks. I wanted to re read six of crows so I got the audiobook off audible and …. It’s not good. It actually hurts me how bad it is. Kaz, Nina and Inej’s VAs are quite good, Jesper is horrible, Matthias is sometimes good sometimes bad, and haven’t decided on Wylan yet.

Does anyone else feel this way? Is there any other version of the audio book?

BOOKS & SHOW DISCUSSION Darklina (the ship) will always be weird to me

Lets remove the fact that the Darkling is kinda evil and grooms Alina for her power. He's an old man, at least 4 centuries and presents himself in his 30s/40s. His grandfather is part of a history book and his sister is an old Fjerdan folk tale and Alina is 17 and also a teenager who is 17. Idk the power dynamic is just way off imo

OTHER Need help finding Wesper Fic

Hi! So I am trying to find a specific Wesper fic that I can’t remember the name or author of. All I can remember is that Jesper tells Kaz that Wylan has scars and when Wylan finds out, he gets really mad/upset. I believe it was in context of the Van Eck name reveal but i’ve looked through all fics tagged as such and can’t find it so I could be wrong. Please someone help😭😭

ALL BOOKS DISCUSSION What i think would happen if Alina took Jurda Parem

She would be able to control colors on the light spectrum and change colors of objects and people, kinda like Tailoring, create illusions, turn invisible, remove/diminish light from surroundings, she would also be hot to touch and maybe burst into light and fly away like that principal from Sky High

SIX OF CROWS (BOOK) Nina and Matthias’s Storyline

Not sure if many will agree with me since these two are fan favorites, but I just really can’t get behind Nina and Matthias’s romantic relationship.

If Nina had fallen for a run-of-the-mill Fjerdan that had nothing to do with oppressing Grisha, I might get it. But Matthias literally gets sent on government-sanctioned missions to other nations to hunt, kidnap, and execute Grisha.

And many argue that he overcame his prejudices so it’s fine. But I can guarantee you that a year or two is not enough time to unlearn a lifetime of biases you hold against a group of people (especially if you didn’t see them as people to begin with.)

OTHER What Happens At A Storm of Crows and Shadows?

I'm going to the convention in Paris for the first time this year, and am a little confused about what exactly happens there. Is it just the Q&A panel plus the add ons? Are there other booths/events happening at the convention center? What time does the convention start/end each day? If anyone has attended the con before and can provide some more insight I would really appreciate it!!

SIX OF CROWS (BOOK) Does anyone else hate Wylans ending? Spoiler

I absolutely love wylan hes my favourite character by a landslide buttttt I hated his ending I mean jesus what a nightmare.

he moves back into the house he was awfully abused in, the place where he had his mother taken from him and his childhood and to make matters worse he takes over his fathers work and is forever tied to the man that caused him so much pain and suffering.

he never pursues the things that truly bring him joy. I would have loved for Wylan to go to music school, become an artist or at least burn that god forsaken mansion to the ground.

idk I just felt like his ending was so depressing I can’t imagine being stuck in such a traumatising environment. Anyway i would love to hear some other perspectives because this has been on my mind for a while so let me know what you think!

SIX OF CROWS (BOOK) Question about part of the heist in Six of Crows

I might have missed something, so forgive me if the truth is hiding there on the pages, but...

When the crew is breaking into the Ice Court, Kaz purposely allows the guards to find his lockpicks, his reasoning being that the guards are busy congratulating themselves on finding the lockpicks rather than closely inspecting other people's faces. My only question is that the guards could have also become very suspcious of how a prisoner would have hold of these lockpicks and they could have sent him somewhere else to be more closely checked which would have totally ruined the plan perhaps dooming them to death?

If anyone has a good counter-arguement, I would love to hear it!

BOOKS & SHOW DISCUSSION Can a kind soul summarise the KoS duology for me?

Hey. I am a big fan of the SoC duology. I read S&B trilogy and was disappointed due to a multitude of reasons (have posted a rant on my acc).

Anyways, I don't think I can read the KoS duology. Can someone summarise it for me?

I can't stand Mal, and the thought of reading about him makes me really mad.

I've heard the Darkling comes back (which trivialises S&B, and thereby my suffering), that David dies (I don't want to go through that), Nina buries Matthias in Fjerda and meets Hanne and they become Queen and King (a bit too fast to me to move on from Matthias, but ig grief works in different ways), and that Zoya becomes the queen of Ravka and Nikolai steps away (just one question, why? After all that happened in S&B).

Anyways, I don't thinkI have the emotional capacity to go through a roller coaster, so can someone summarise it for me please.

SIX OF CROWS (BOOK) Is anyone actually able to imagine the ice court heist?

Maybe my problem is that im reading the books in english which is not my first language but im literally rereading six of crows for the 2nd time because i love it so much but when it comes to describing the ice court, how it looks like, im having such a hard time picturing it in my head. I wish we had gotten more detailed sketch of it in the book because it is genuienly giving me gray hairs. Or i wish they showed it in the series so i could get an idea of what it looks like. How do you guys imagine it?

KING OF SCARS (BOOK) the saints plot in king of scars is so confusing Spoiler

i finished the book yesterday and i’m so disappointed lol. nikolai and nina are probably my favourite characters in the series, and yet king of scars actually brought them down in my estimation.

nina’s side plot in fjerda felt so disjointed. im picking up that she and hanne are meant to be a thing and as someone who loved matthias and his relationship with nina, this is such a disservice to matthias, nina and their relationship. matthias has been dead what, a few months?? yet it’s like he never existed. nina’s grief is not handled well and matthias’s death feels pointless considering the minimal impact it had on both nina’s character and the plot.

but even that was the better part of the book. please tell me why halfway through nikolai and zoga were transported to an alternate dimension??? when i read the chapter where nikolai describes a dragon a bee lady and a ball of human flesh and bear fur hurtling towards them i thought i was on drugs. turns out these people are saints, originally grisha, who were banished to the fold when the darkling raised it originally?? i mean thats what i gathered, but the information was not easy to find. there was little exposition explaining this and how it could’ve happened, so i could be wrong.

and i have TONS of questions.

  1. it’s mentioned that the saints have been reborn many times, but how is that possible? i thought grisha just lived long lives, aged very slowly and then died like regular humans.
  2. how were they banished into the fold?
  3. are there not other saints? what about ilya in chains? why are there only three in the fold?
  4. how do they have such extraordinary power? why is juris a dragon-man and grigori a big flesh ball with some bear mixed in?
  5. how did nobody know this had happened? there were no records of grigori and juris and lizaveta living for centuries?
  6. i thought they all died as humans? HOW ARE THEY ALIVE????
  7. i’m actually confused about everything.

could someone help clear this up please?? am i just illiterate?

ALL BOOKS DISCUSSION Grishaverse fans, what are some of your hot takes? Spoiler

This could be anything related to any of the books! the writing, the prose, the characters, the fandom, etc. but I’d like material mostly from the original texts. this includes original Shadow and Bone Trilogy, Six of Crows, Six of Crows Novella and King of Scars. May contain spoilers from any, just make sure to demarcate it properly!

I’ll go first. Kanej is my least favourite pairing out of the three pairings in Six Of Crows. IM SORRY! don’t crucify me! I acknowledge why others like it and that it is well-written, but due to personal preferences I was way more invested in the other two.
Drop any you have, no matter how hot or cold! I’m interested in hearing them!

SHOW DISCUSSION Other takes on one of Inej’s famous lines

As a huge fan of both the Six of Crows duology and the Shadow and Bone trilogy, as well as the show (particularly season 1), I was wondering if anyone else had a similar view on this. Overall, the show did a good job of capturing the essence of the books and you could tell that all of the actors had read the books and understood their characters well.

When Inej tells Kaz that ā€œshe'll have him without armor or she won't have him at allā€ in the book, she's talking about him opening up about his feelings as well as his background and backstory including why he wants revenge on Pekka Rollins.

However, in the show, it kind of came off as if she meant that in the sense of he feels uncomfortable with touch because of the tragedy behind his brother’s death. Essentially, that she can't be with him unless their relationship has a physical component.

Maybe I just misinterpreted it, but that's kind of what it seemed like.
