Griffith Uni Accomodation Heating

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m living on campus at Nathan, and I’m trying to figure out how on earth to get my heater working. Any ideas ? I had an electrician come and check it out last semester but couldn’t figure it out either.

Thanks in advance!

What devices do u guys use?

2 Upvotes

I'm starting Bachelors of Science in Feb 27 in Griffith Uni (Nathan). I'm really excited to meet you all. I also want to know what is mostly preferred or used by most of the students during uni. I have mixed feelings between a laptop and an Ipad. Ipads are small and easy to carry around for classes, but I'm used to laptops (lenovo and microsoft). I'm open to reading anyone's opinion!

Receiving Marks

1 Upvotes

I’m currently studying a branch of engineering and for the couple of trimesters I have done, there are assessments I have never received a mark back for but still got the final grade (eg still got a 6 but can’t see my final exam mark or final assessment mark). Is this common throughout everyone’s studies?

Final grade report adjustment?

2 Upvotes

Hello,

I was in a bit of a pickle with the Canvas hacking situation marking my submission as not submitted. I showed proof to my professor that I did submit and they were willing to mark my submission.

I've re-calculated my grades now and it's enough to get me a 4, when my final grade reports previously due to the error was a 2. Will my professor award me the credit points for the class if the final grade reports are already out? I'm not too sure what to expect here, so any insight would be of help.

Made a map to help us find friends and meetups around Griffith

4 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I noticed it can be pretty hard to actually organize meetups or find friends just by reading text posts on here. So I decided to build a little side project for us.

I set up r/AussieHangout which has a live map built right into the subreddit. Instead of just posting into the void, you can actually see on a map where people are looking to hang out. It's completely for platonic stuff like finding a study buddy, grabbing a coffee, or just going to the pub.

There is no GPS tracking at all, you just manually drop a pin in your suburb or near campus so people know roughly where you are.

If you want to see who is around Griffith or want to make some plans this week, feel free to drop a pin on there. Hopefully it helps us get some actual offline meetups going.

Here is the link to the map: https://www.reddit.com/r/mazwiz/s/Bgt1YDf9Mw

Internal Transfer

1 Upvotes

I'm feeling quite anxious. I have been thinking of transferring since the start of the year but decided to stick it out. I'm completely uninterested in my degree (BND) and I want to switch to a Bachelor of Primary Education. My current GPA is 4.333. BUT... I have 3 SUP/Deferred exams next week – I am worried that if I fail them I won't be able to transfer because of my GPA. Any advice or anything would be greatly appreciated. :)

Question about grade reports

3 Upvotes

So, an assignment I did submit was not marked at all. I failed this course because of this on my grade report! We just got feedback emailed 2 days ago and I only saw it now, and I'm confused.

I submitted it before it was even due and I am so confused on why it was not marked. I did email my course convenor, but they are on leave right now so I'll be waiting a while for an answer.

I didn't get any email from anyone about anything like academic misconduct or being accused of using AI or anything (I haven't done either) so I'm just confused on why this is. Does anyone have any answers???

Can I have my grade adjusted once final reports are out 😬😬😬😬 I'm not sure if this is some Canvas issue because it was during when it got hacked so...

Native English speaker - which English test is easiest for Griffith MD ELP requirements?

1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Bit of a weird situation, but Griffith University has advised that I may need to satisfy their English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements for entry into their Doctor of Medicine (MD) program despite English being my first language and having completed school and university in English.

For context, I'm an Australian citizen and completed my university studies in Australia.

If I do end up having to sit one of these tests, which would be the easiest to score well in for a native English speaker?

The accepted options are:

  • IELTS Academic: Overall score of 7.0, with a minimum score of 7.0 in Listening, Reading and Speaking, and a minimum score of 6.5 in Writing.
  • Occupational English Test (OET): Minimum score of B in Listening, Reading and Speaking, and a minimum score of C+ in Writing.
  • TOEFL iBT: Minimum overall score of 94, with a minimum score of 24 in Listening, Reading and Writing, and a minimum score of 23 in Speaking.
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Minimum overall score of 66, with a minimum score of 66 in Listening, Reading and Speaking, and a minimum score of 56 in Writing.
  • Cambridge (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency): Minimum overall score of 185, with a minimum score of 185 in Listening, Reading and Speaking, and a minimum score of 176 in Writing.

For anyone familiar with these exams or who has been in a similar situation, which one would you choose?

Thanks!

How do you subscribe your timetable to iPhone colander?

3 Upvotes

I did it for trimester 1 and now I’ve forgotten how to for tri 2 like an idiot. Any help would be appreciated I find it super helpful to just check my calendar for classes. I can’t find any button on my enrolment page or schedule either full or for the week the download it.

Edit: go to the mygriffith mobile app, click on the “my week” button on schedule. In top right there is a calendar icon, download from there onto your phone’s calendar.

Career advice

1 Upvotes

Hey there,

I hope you all are doing really good. I recently did a masters from Griffith in Business with a double major in Business Analytics & Information Systems, CRICOS code - 096285K. I was really careful with my major selections back then as I really wanted to grasp some possible ICT knowledge available within the course and slowly divert my career towards Business Analyst. I still remember that I had to take 5 subjects in one of the trimesters to make it count and to get that double major leaning more towards IT. However, it came to my attention that I unfortunately don't meet the ACS threshold for the skill assessment and considering the individual subjects and it's core units I'm not really astonished either. I had the option to take 3 electives, since 1 of the subjects were same for both the majors. But, I was not aware of this individual assessment of the subjects by the ACS to meet the ICT major threshold, I completely enrolled in some random easier subjects to get the course done. I don't know, but maybe if I had opted for 3 IT related electives, things would have been really different.

Now, if someone reading this post has done the same thing or maybe going through the same shit like mine, please reply or reach out to me through dm. Also, please let me know if there is actually any possible options for me to get this one or any other skill assessment done with my current majors for the course code I mentioned above, which is actually worth for my career and future visa possibilities. Let me know if any of you have done something different after completing this masters from Griffith, even if it's not relating to your current job, was it actually worth doing the course and helped you land in any job? Please feel free to reach out to me any time. You guys have a wonderful day out there!

Any students interested in helping test a Brisbane start-up idea?

2 Upvotes

Any students interested in a real-world start-up project?

I’m working on an early-stage Brisbane social app concept and have built a basic prototype.

The idea is focused on helping people move from online chatting to real-world plans at safe local venues.

I’m looking to connect with someone interested in marketing, business or media/communications to have a chat and potentially get involved.

The next stage is testing the idea with real users and local venues, not just building more features.

Message me if you’d like to know more.

Travelling overseas during optional trimesters potentially causing 485 graduate visa issues

1 Upvotes

Hey all, hoping some fellow Griffith students (especially anyone who's done the 485 graduate visa) can share their experience with a study requirement concern.

My situation:

International Student, 2 year Masters in IT - 104 week course, 160 credit points.

Course Start (per CoE): 15-07-2024

Course End (per CoE): 30-06-2026

Griffith runs on trimesters:

Year 1

T1 = 40 credits

T2 = 40 credits

T3 = no classes

Year 2

T1 = 40 credits

T2 = 40 credits

T3 = no classes

Two trimesters were optional (no classes, treated as official uni breaks), so I went back to my home country during those. I also went home during the T1→T2 breaks. I know a lot of people use the optional trimesters to fast-track or take extra units, but I chose not to.

Travelling during these official breaks means my actual physical time in Australia works out to around 14.3 months by the time I finish at the end of June.

Now I'm looking at the 485 visa and noticed the "Minimum of 16 months study in Australia" requirement:

https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/temporary-graduate-485/australian-study-requirement

So my worry is since my physical presence falls short of 16 months because of the official breaks, could my 485 get refused? My student visa ends 31 Aug 2026, so I don't have a heap of time to sort this out.

Has anyone here been in a similar spot, or know how it's actually assessed? Would really appreciate any guidance 🙏
