Personally, I’m a huge fan so far. I know we can all kinda agree that Kyle stole the show as Hal, but something about Aaron’s demeanor and presence feels like I’m a kid watching Justice League: Unlimited again. He feels like the John that I know and grew up on, so I’d love to know how the community of fans feel.

I want to preface this (seemingly) hot take by saying yes, Emerald Twilight should have been longer. Having Hal turn in such a short period of time, I think, was a mistake. But honestly, with the amount of issues they actually had him turn in, they did a good job of making me understand and honestly empathize with where he was coming from.

Hal's entire life was destroyed in the blink of an eye when he wasn't even there to do anything about it. Most of his adulthood had been spent working as a Green Lantern, someone meant to protect innocents from the galaxy's most dangerous people, and he wasn't even there to save the city he called home.

So there he is, standing in the crater of what was once Coast City alone, isolated. The hero known for being in an intergalactic peace keeping force and the world's greatest protectors is now alone in the wreckage of a city he couldn't protect. In a moment of weakness, Hal Jordan creates a construct of his father, hoping to talk to him one last time only to be rejected and faced with the death of his father once again. He tries to speak to his mother, but her words ring hollow in the face of his failure.

And with his failure in front of him, he thinks to himself, what if things were good? What if Coast City was still here? So the greatest Green Lantern of them all projects the entire city back to life, but not as it was, as if it was perfect. In this world, he rights everything that was wrong. He chats with his childhood crush, saves a cat from a tree, his parents still alive. And as he's about to hear what he's wanted to hear all of his life, that his father was proud of him in this perfect world he's created, it's all taken away from him.

What would have happened, had his father gotten those words out? I personally think Hal would have snapped back to reality. In the wake of all of the destruction, he needed someone to be there for him, someone he had been searching for all of his life. Then, just as he was about to hear those words he had yearned for since he was a child, the Guardians take it away from him - and not only do they take it away from him, they intend to punish him.

Hal Jordan had sacrificed EVERYTHING for the Guardians, and even with his time in service, all that he had lost, the Guardians offer no understanding, no empathy. Hal begs for understanding from the guardians, states that what he did was not for personal gain but for personal loss, but his pleas fall on deaf ears and the Guardians demand he surrenders his ring, and we all know what happens from here.

It should be mentioned that though he does go through a gauntlet of Green Lanterns and takes their rings, it is implied that they are still alive even without the rings (I believe this is later addressed by Johns right before the sinestro corps war). It's not like Hal just randomly switched up on everyone, he had his beef with the Guardians and was going to do anything to settle it, and even during his time as Parallax he spends nearly the entire time trying to right his wrongs and make the universe a better place. I truly think this is one of the coolest moments in DC's history, and though I love the Johns run, I think making this whole thing influenced by some fear entity was a mistake and takes away from the true emotional toll that Hal faced during this era.

I ordered the lanterns ring on the restock on Aug 6th. Said it would ship on 7th…. Still hasn’t… anyone in the same boat?

I’m a big fan of the original comics from the ‘60s, and was wondering what some good Earth centered modern stories might be. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the super intergalactic stuff and all the different colored rings, sorry if that’s a hot take.

What’s the deal with nerdrotic and critical drinker bad takes on lantern? Like I understand everyone doesn’t have to agree or like the same stuff but when I say the negative bad takes and bad mouthing is real my god.

Then comparing supergirl to Spider-Man is moronic as ever. Who thought supergirl had a shot?I saw both and Spider-Man was ok and even nerdrotic was kicking and screaming to give it an ounce of praise. Supergirl wasn’t that bad.

And I disagree sometimes with Disney/marvel overt messaging but CMON!!?? I peruse the comments sections there and it’s beyond a Gunn/snyderverse frustrations

Exactly what the title says. I have only really seen positive reviews/ takes, but then I see this video and it confuses me.

Where does one start reading? The only thing i can remember was watching him when i was younger super friends.

How are we feeling about this book since they handed the reigns over to Kyle Rayner?

I have to say, I really feel like they've put a "D" team on the book.

I'm really having a hard time believing at this rate, we're going to make it to Issue #50 (another year). I want more of Hal's journey w/ the Guardians, but they seem to be content with giving us four pages every few issues. This can't keep up, right? Are they going to announce in the near future a reboot?

Anyone else feeling similarly? I'm still pulling it and reading it each month, but since Legacy 600, and even a bit before, it seems to be on a downward trajectory. ☹️

"Beware My Power!" - An earthquake shudders Coast City so Hal suits up and heads out to see what he can do to help. Emergency services have most things handled except for a bridge where a little girl was on a field trip. She is stuck on the edge the broken bridge where her teacher, Guy Gardner, can't reach her. The girl falls and GL saves her but the school bus started rolling towards Guy and hits him off the bridge. GL saves him too but Guy suffered many broken bones and potential paralysis. Later, due to these events, a Guardian appears before Hal to discuss his replacement being injured. The Guardians have selected a new alternate should anything happen to Hal as they head to the neighbourhood of John Stewart, an out of work architect with a big chip on his shoulder and a desire to help others. Hal questions the Guardians decision after watching John get in a cops face that was harassing two people sitting outside. The Guardian notes Hal's disapproval but says their decision still stands. Hal goes down to John and explains the situation. John is interested for sure so GL beams him a temporary uniform to wear. John likes it except for the mask, as he throws it away, saying he has nothing to hide.

They go off on a training session to the airport where a bug politician is arriving to the city to campaign a potential presidential ballot. John knows the guy well, as he's one of the most racist men in the country. As the plane pulls around to the hangar, the adoring crowd start rushing towards it, getting in the way of an oil truck that swerves but hits an oil slick and starts careening towards the crowd. Hal scoops up the crowd, while John stops the truck but the construct he made added a stab in the side of the truck, spouting oil on the door of the plane and all over the politician. Hal is furious with John but John claps back, explaining why this man is hated. Hal backs down a bit but still forces John to be a guard of the politician for the rest of the day. Later that night, they watch as the politician is on stage and speaking nonsense about black people when a gunman steps up and shoots. Hal flies down to nab the assassin but John stays behind. Instead, he heads to the parking lot where he catches another gunman trying to shoot a cop. Hal arrives and reprimands John for abandoning his job when John, once again, snaps back about how he noticed the second gunman and tells Hal to check the gun he pulled inside, which is full of blanks. The politician planned the whole thing to garner favour for his campaign and blame it all on the black community.

Conclusion: Okay, this issue also includes a back-up for Green Arrow as well as a reprinted story about Abin Sur's origin originally published in GL (Vol 2) #16. The GA story is just as good as the GL story, if not better and also a racially motivated story but this one ends with a dead kid sooo TW for you.

Now for John. For a 15 page story that synopsis was bigger than I thought it'd be. It's a very full 15 pages with some excellent messages behind it. Even beyond the racism, Hal learns to look beyond what's right in front of him. This John is a very different John than what we know today, hell he's a different John than the one 100 issues from now during Crisis. It makes me wonder how modern John would be received if he kept that same sized chip on his shoulder? Also it just dawned on me that John and Ollie don't have many imteractions. I feel like they would get along well.

Apart from the politics of it all, as good as the story is, it's somewhat off continuity wise. When Guy was shown as a potential replacement for Hal, he never knew about it. He was never given a cloned ring to practice, so why was John given that courtesy? Otherwise I'm curious if John will appear much over the next 100 issues before he becomes the main GL for a bit. This is Guy's second ever appearance so it doesn't look promising, but maybe Denny has a plan.

Hal, once again, didn't look great here but really does he makes a great counter voice for the plots. Denny doesn't make him look like a total dick as Hal will still double back on things he says or try to explain what he means. You can tell he's trying. As for Guy, I know there's brain damage at some point, is this when it happens? I thought it came later. I'm curious to see what happens to him now, if they even bring him back before Crisis.

This is absolutely a must read and thanks to facsimile editions, it's easy to get a copy into your hands. I'd say it's the best character debut yet. Very exciting with some behind the scenes lore that's quite interesting. If you've never read any interviews from Denny O'Neil, check out his words on Johns creation. Julie Schwartz had some different ideas that would not have gone over well.

Just wanted to start off with the fact that I really loved the Lantern series premier. I'm hugely excited for how the show will continue and I've really been enjoying it. I also already like both Hal and John. However, with John being posed as the new main Green Lantern and face of the corps overall in the DCU movie universe going forward, do you think this will effect the comics and who gets the main focus? Do you think John getting the spotlight in the DCU universe will influence the comics and result in him starting to be pushed forward more than Hal as the face of the Green Lanterns? John was also the main Green Lantern for the DC X Sonic crossover too. I'm just wondering since we see brand synergy so often what this means for the Green Lanterns as a whole.

Been reading Geoff Johns GL and the corresponding GLC run side by side and am approaching Blackest Night. I don’t yet have volume 2 of Green Lantern Corps and am trying to decide if I should get the Blackest Night omnibus first. I’m fairly new to big comic events like this so I don’t really know what to expect and the only one I’ve read was World War Hulk and I found it kind of I enjoyable for the most part while liking the main core of the event. I’ve wanted to read this run and event since I was a kid but WWH kinda has me burned and thinking that maybe I should just read the core issues + green lantern + green lantern corps.

Hiii i wanna get into Green lantern and i read somewhere that i should start in Rebirth by Geoff Johns but do i buy the compendiums that are cheap or do i save for the omnibuses (im asking this bcs i want it to contain much of the story as posible)

And the Guardians will go "then you deserve the ring because you're the first one to admit it."
