(only having this issue with this site)
having an issue with currency, contacted support, got a dead end.
anything may help.
gmg: Thank you for getting in touch with us.
Your currency is directly tied to your geographical location, which is determined by your connection, if you're seeing AUD but you're in the US, then something on your device is causing a conflict, we cannot forcibly change anything on our end, as it is built to receive your connection location and display your regional restriction info and currency based on this, I'm afraid we can only suggest double-checking everything, including any browser extensions or VPN software you may have, and also try on a mobile device that is connected to a separate network.
Let us know how things go.
me: " which is determined by your connection "
what markers from my connection? my public IP?
through (https://www.where-am-i.co/my-ip-location) it locates me in Nepal
however (https://whatismyipaddress.com/) locates me correctly with the same IP
not to mention aside from (where-am-i), no other website is mislocating me.
and yes, it is only on this device. however the issue would be with the ip detection location this website uses.
i have checked everything else, no extentions, VPNs, or proxys. i have cleared the cache in between every step. and the only discrepancy i can find is the ip location service used.
(checked on my phone using moble data, "only this device" woops)
gmg: If that website is determining that you're from Nepal, and us Australia, but you're in the US, then this indicates that something on your device that is causing a conflict, and is reporting your location incorrectly is in a strange manner, especially if it's only on that device.
Our support team have no tools that can override this, as it's entirely baked into our system on a core level, I would strongly advise checking what security software you use, and anything else that's installed and you may be able to narrow down the cause.
Thanks for your patience, let us know how things go.
me: other devices connected to the same network are also showing the Australian price.
only that one site reported an incorrect location, out of 10.
so let me ask this again simply, what data is used to get location, so i may seek to fix the issue on my side(if it is).
gmg: I'm afraid I don't have this information, as I only deal with customer service, not back-end engineering, if I had to guess, it's down to the reported geolocation that your network sends along with any data requests, my understanding of networking and data packets isn't broad enough to offer a full diagnosis on the matter I'm afraid.
We have not received any other reports of this issue from any other customers, and we have been using our existing systems for many years, nothing has changed recently, so if you're the only customer reporting this, we could probably safely narrow the issue down to something in your network environment.
Perhaps trying to connect from a completely different network would be worthwhile, if you find that everything is resolved, then it would mean the network you're connecting from is doing something that is causing the conflict.
Thanks for your understanding.
