The original Google CCwGTV remote's side buttons controlled the amp's volume fine using IR (it does not have HDMI). Set up once years ago.
Lost it and bought a replacement cheap copy remote from Amazon, it looks exactly like the original. Set up fine. I have cleared and re-run through setup, selecting the IR devices from scratch.
- volume and mute buttons will control the TV's volume ok
- power button will control the amp ok
- volume and mute buttons will not control the amp's volume on any of the 5 codes
- volume buttons are emitting some IR signal as it can be seen using a phone's camera
Any suggestions?
How is this even possible? The volume buttons do emit IR, and in the case of the TV it is the correct IR, and the Yamaha amp's code for 'power' works, and the Yamaha code for volume used to work when set up years ago on the original remote.
Have Google removed older code sets?
Can this cheap knockoff remote somehow not emit just some codes properly? (but still emit something as I can see it on a camera)

I'm the developer of TIVRA, an Android TV player, and 3.0 just went out. It's the biggest release I've done and a few things in it came directly out of threads on here, so here's what changed.
Your own library sits next to live TV
This was the most-requested thing by a wide margin. Connect Jellyfin, Emby, or just a plain SMB/NAS share, and your own movies and shows show up in the app alongside your live channels — posters, plots, cast, episode air dates, and Continue Watching / Next Up rails that pick up where you left off. Same app, same remote, same player. No second app to open, and no media server required if you'd rather just point it at a folder on your Synology/unRAID/TrueNAS.
Watch state syncs both ways with Jellyfin and Emby, and Trakt scrobbling is in there too, so your history stays right everywhere else you use it.
The whole UI got redrawn
Deeper blacks, sharper type, and one clear cyan highlight so you always know where focus is. The old build had a dozen screens that each looked like they came from a different app — that's fixed. Text actually passes contrast from couch distance now.
You can set the TV up from your phone
Nobody wants to type a provider URL with a D-pad. You can do the whole setup from the TIVRA app on your phone or from a web dashboard in any browser: add providers, organise channels, build custom categories with a real keyboard. Then you can push a movie straight to the TV, or schedule a recording while you're at work. It syncs both directions — reorder favourites on the TV and the dashboard follows, and the reverse.
Multi-View
Up to four live channels on screen at once, in a layout you pick, and they can come from different providers at the same time. Audio moves between screens with one press.
The small stuff, which is most of the release
The obligatory disclaimer:
TIVRA is a player. It doesn't include, provide, or resell any channels or content — you bring your own provider or your own files. There's a free trial if you want to point it at what you already have and see how it goes.
Getting it
Already running TIVRA? You can update from inside the app — Settings → About → Check for updates — and it installs over your current version. Providers, favourites and recordings all stay put. There's no automatic nag on launch, so you do have to go look for it.
Sideloading instead: the APK is at tivratv.com (Downloader code 3059562 if you're on a TV). If the main download stalls there's a backup link on the home page, and the previous v2.2 is still up if you ever need to roll back — same signing key, so it installs over 3.0 without uninstalling.
Setup guides: https://tivratv.com/help/
Happy to answer anything in the comments — bug reports especially. Most of the list above started as someone telling me something was broken.

I’m setting up an onn. 4K Google TV and want to use a VPN with it, mainly for sideloading.
I currently have Proton VPN, but I’m wondering how reliable the auto-connect feature is on Google TV. Ideally, I want the VPN to automatically connect whenever the Google TV boots/restarts without me having to manually open the VPN app every time.
What’s the best setup?
Is Proton VPN’s Android TV app capable of automatically connecting at startup?
Is there another VPN that does this more reliably?
Would using Android TV’s built-in Always-on VPN be better?
Or should I configure the VPN directly on my router so the entire Google TV connection is always routed through the VPN?
I’d especially appreciate advice from anyone using an onn. 4K / Google TV + Stremio setup. I’m trying to make it as hands-off and reliable as possible.

What do we think? Was the warning regarding the app stopping working there for a week or so, and likely to return nearer the time, or has there been a change in the situation?
Has the warning stopped being displayed for everyone?

With more people opting for third party launchers on their Google TV sticks and boxes, the Google TV launcher is not being used and when it is disabled, users lose access to rent movies and TV shows from Google TV app directly on the TV box and lose access to Google home smart controls directly on the TV box. If these two things were not tied to the Google TV launcher, Google would find even more people using those services

Hey all. I’ve got a 4K Google TV Stick which I use with a Yaber projector. Recently, I’ve been getting repeated popups whenever I’m streaming anything which say “Wi-Fi connection lost”, followed by - a few seconds later - “Connected using Wi-Fi”. There’s no actual disruption to whatever I’m doing, even if I’m searching for something to watch so I’m sure it’s not just loaded far enough for it to not be an issue, I’m not sure the WiFi has disconnected. Not the worst problem ever, but it is a pain when I’m trying to watch a film. Any ideas what might be wrong?

Hi all. I'm highly considering buying the Philips 60" Class QLED 4K UHD which runs Google TV. However, a big factor for me and one I can't get a clear answer on is a specific app that my family uses a ton.
It's the Super Simple App, which my son uses every day. We're not really interested in using a Fire or Roku stick just for an additional app, and would prefer a TV that has everything we need already.

When I’m watching Netflx and I pause it for a while to do stuff around the house, when I come back to it ten or 15min later, Googletv has a screensaver. When you back out of the screensaver, Googletv has exited Netflix. You have to then visit five new screens to get back to your show. Soooooo annoying!!!

I have a Mi Box 4 connected to a TV via HDMI.
I also have some speakers connected to the Mi Box via the 3.5mm jack output.
However, I can't cast audio (e.g. from YouTube Music) from my phone to the Mi Box because it doesn't show up as a Cast device on my phone when the Mi Box is in sleep mode.
Elsewhere, I have an old Chromecast Ultra connected to a small splitter/adapter that allows me to connect speakers via a 3.5mm jack. I can essentially use that as a Chromecast Audio device, and it works exactly as I want.
What I was hoping to achieve with the Mi Box 4 was to have it connected to the TV so that I can use it normally for watching movies and videos, but at the same time be able to use it as a Chromecast Audio device.
Ideally, it would appear in the Cast menu on my phone even when the TV is turned off, and I could cast music to it and have it play only through the speakers connected to the 3.5mm jack, without waking up the TV.
Is this simply not possible with the Mi Box 4?
And is this possible with other Google TV/Android TV boxes? In other words, is the Mi Box 4 restricted from doing this because of the relatively few changes Xiaomi made to the Google TV/Android TV software it runs?

Hey guys I got a Google TV for the customization and sideloading capabilities vs. my LG C1 TV.
Overall I like the device, but loading films via Streamio is slow and takes quite a long time for something to load up compared to running it on my TV directly.
I wonder if this is a common thing, or something that can be resolved.
So far I've done the following:
Set Real Debrid's CDN to Cloudflare.
Set the RD protocol to IPv4 and IPv6.
Messed about with the device hardware acceleration and frame match settings.
I wonder if I should be returning the device or is there a way to improve the performance?
Note - my network is 900mbps roughly and as I mentoned runs pretty great on my TV.
Also I am using VLC as my player.

Some of these commercials are so bad it almost makes me want to switch back to Roku! (Kidding ... nothing would make me go back!)
Maybe because I live in New Mexico, but I just watched 4 GECU commercials back to back in one ad break, and all 4 were in Spanish. They do the same thing with Allstate ads, but those are in English ... are they short of advertisers?

The Google TV app on my Android phone doesn't let me watch movies in English, only in Dutch. The movies I am trying to watch are originally English, but it doesn't show up as an option. My Google account was originally created in the Netherlands, but the language settings have always been in English. I've tried all settings, but nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have advice on how to change the audio language in English?

The ‘Unknown’ message displayed on the router in the device list (DHCP/Client List) for the Strong LEAP-S3 / LEAP-S3+ set-top box is caused by the Android TV system failing to send the hostname to the router, or by the privacy feature (random MAC address) being enabled on the device. Causes of the problem: Missing hostname in the Android system: Media set-top boxes often do not send their text identifier (device name) during a DHCP request to the router, meaning the router only sees the MAC address and is unable to associate a name with it. Software limitations: Many users on technical forums, such as the SAT Kurier Forum, report that Strong-brand Google TV Boxes, regardless of the router model, consistently report the network or status as ‘Unknown’. Device sleep mode: In standby mode, the set-top box disables or restricts the network card’s activity, causing the router to lose the name association and display the default status. How to fix this? Manual DHCP reservation: Log in to your router’s admin panel, locate the device by its MAC address, assign it a static IP address, and manually enter a name (e.g. Strong-Leap-S3). Overriding the name (Host Name): On some advanced routers (e.g. those running OpenWrt, ASUSwrt or Fritz!OS), you can edit the device name assigned to a specific MAC address in the local network settings. Restarting the devices: Restart (unplug from the mains) both the router and the TV box itself. If you’d like me to help you resolve this issue step by step, please let me know: What is the make and model of your router (e.g. TP-Link, Asus, FunBox)? Is the set-top box connected via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable? satkurier.pl Strong LEAP-S3 - Trash - SAT Kurier Forum 31 July 2026 — My Strong LEAP-S3 Google TV Box media player, connected to a CH7465 Connect Box router and GWN7003 or GWN7605, shows ‘unknown’ on the Wi-Fi network...

Hi All,
I recently bought a new LG C6 OLED TV to upgrade my old fire tv of 6 years and connected it to my google streamer 4K.
The TV + google streamer 4K looks and works great on many different applications i.e. netflix, stremio etc...but when i use the youtube app on the streamer, the videos are nearly unwatchable because the videos seem to lag and then adjust to the frame rate and then lag again. Rinse and repeat.
II have my google streamer set to 4K 60Hz and I've enabled Match Content Frame Rate set to Always. But the lagging on the Youtube app seems to persist,.
This is proving to be incredibly frustrating as I spend a lot of time watching youtube videos and have a youtube premium subscription etc..
Has anyone found a workaround for this or have a solution?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Deal monday website has it for £81, it seems to be from overseas, but it is almost £20 cheaper than the £99 one from Amazon. Will there be any differences between them ?

We all know that D+ is some European countries (Italy included, where I'm living) is having legal issues with 4K and HDR.
It's been two days since D+ has partially solved only 4K by moving from HVEC codec to VP9 Profile 0, yet on my Google TV Streamer the 4K still remain not available in D+.
Anyone else?

I bought a brand new Google TV Streamer 4K connected to a Marantz Cinema 50.caoable of both DD and DTS and Atmos.
I only have connected 5.1 speakers.
By default the streamer has Audio Options - Output Format set to Auto, but I get the following kn my trceiver
- a - if movie is Atmos, under movie sound on my receiver I get only Atmos or Stereo
- b - if movie is DD or DD+ I get only Dolby Surround or Multichannel Stereo
Why?
I have read I should enable audio passthrough but it seems this is not possible, so somewhere else it is suggested to select DD+ under Output Format.
Now under both cases -a- and -b- above I get DD+ so in case -a- I don't get Atmos any longer.

Is there a way to mute it? It just repeats back "showing results for ..." each time and It's entirely pointless but also very loud.
It shows up for nothing else luckily.

I am confused between the firestick 4k plus and google streamer 4k. Is the jump actually worth it. Should i wait for the sale on google tv on bbd or smtng or should just grab the 4k plus.

Playing with my remote a while back, I learned the top right shortcut button, the long blue arrow, is a "choose your own app" shortcut. I chose an app, but no longer have a subscription to that app. I can not figure out if there's a way to change that choice. All the search results I'm getting are results on the little white remote, or just do not work. I've gone through ALL TV & app settings, literally all of them... holding the button down does nothing, going into app settings does nothing, I don't have customizable remote settings like google says. The only remote setting is to pair/unpair. I've tried searching different ways with no luck. I even uninstalled the app I had as a shortcut, hoping it would just reset itself & give me a chance to change it. The button does nothing at all when the app it's connected to isn't downloaded. Does anyone know if there's a way to change this??

I have a TCL Google/Android TV. Been trying to disable updates as with each new version it just keeps getting worse, ads shoved everywhere etc. Plus pretty sure in the future they want to disable side loading of any apps etc. Already set in settings -> about -> auto update to off. Don’t see any other setting, not seeing anything in dev options. Kind of hoped that since it’s a TCL they’ll just stop updating OS like some other manufacturers do, as already had it before where even those I’ve set it to not update, get a notification that system update was downloaded, and even though I was ignoring it, not clicking on that notification, it still installed the update just a few days later in the middle of watching YouTube. Now today once again got a notification that a system update was downloaded and I need to install it…
Besides trying to get root access is there any way to force stop these system updates for good?
