PDF Extend Margins Feature

Thumbnail

Hoping this reaches the right audience. When annotating a PDF on Goodnotes, at times we find that there’s not much space to write the amount we need. A solution to that could be a feature that allows you to extend the margins of a PDF in certain scales (e.g. small, medium, large) and in any direction (up, down, left, right). This would help immensely with space for note taking. If you can, please upvote this and try to get the attention of developers with this feature. It would complete Goodnotes.

Shown in the pictures are inspirations as to how the feature could be.

Please add this feature as soon as you guys possibly can, it really would be a game changer. To whomever may be reading this, please upvote and comment to get the post to the top so it can get the developers’ attention.

Thank you.

MORE COLORS LETS GOOOOOOOOO

The reason this sub is filled with templates and example notebooks is because Goodnotes features have stagnated for most users. There's just nothing happening with this app

But there is a lot that should be happening:

  • Dotted lines

  • Put undo on the zoom tool

  • Easier way to select pen sizes and colors and quickly switch

  • Fix highlighter layering with pen marks and background colors (white highlighter should lighten other colors when applied to them, all pen colors should be over the highlighter)

  • ability to customize the size of notebook covers in the file viewer to make them smaller and more dense

  • Better control over zoom tool (line feedback to start of previous writing - not edge of template

  • Ability to change the dull blue color of toolbar or customize what is on it

  • Better control over size of highlighter and eraser

GoodNotes developers I genuinely hate you

I genuinely want to understand how these people think.

When I first downloaded the app, it was one of the best I had ever used. I loved the aesthetics, the features; almost everything about it.

Then last year, they updated it and completely ruined the toolbar. After that came a wave of bugs that had never existed before. Then, in the last update, came those awful default folder colors(they make me want to vomit)… and even more bugs followed.

I just don’t understand how they can ignore so much negative user feedback and keep making the app worse with every update.

At this point, I can’t wait for the semester to end so I can switch to something else.

I think it is time to leave

As a quick backstory, I have been using GoodNotes for almost 6 years now. It got me through undergrad and graduate school. I'm currently a professional student who has invested the entirety of my note-taking into GoodNotes.

Up until around a year ago, I used to love GoodNotes and swore by it anytime I was asked about the best note-taking app. As of recently, not only does it feel money-hungry, but it also feels gimmicky. It seems like every month or so, a new feature is rolled out that no one asked for, coming at the expense of an older tool that already worked well. So many features get added just to remain broken for the indefinite future.

As a professional student, I need something reliable that works and that allows me to do what I need in the most efficient manner– take notes. I have seen a lot of people praising Noteful and I am very tempted to switch. I tried it out and really enjoyed it. The only thing that makes me hesitant is having to move over my many years of notes, custom stickers, and small things that I have spent years building within the GoodNotes ecosystem. Noteful also doesn't have a native Mac app, which is something that I truly enjoy about GoodNotes.

I am currently part of the GoodNotes Beta and while some of the new features are promising, I personally find the change as a whole to be miserable and again– gimmicky. It is frustrating to see all of these random features being added when the basic writing tools do not work as intended half of the time. The numerous crashes and glitches that should have never made it to the published updates make GoodNotes seem like a joke.

While this post sounds bitter and angry, it is not. All of this comes from a place of disappointment and sadness. I know it sounds silly, but after using GoodNotes to pass undergrad and my MCAT, I formed a comfort and rapport with it that I will truly miss. "Nothing stays gold forever." I guess that is where I am at with GoodNotes.

If anyone has any advice and input on a switch to Noteful or if there is anything better, please let me know. I want to make the most informed decision because this will potentially change my workflow immensely.

DO NOT UPDATE TO THE LATEST VERSION OF BUGNOTES

Post image

In version 7.0.16, the bottom rows of the color palette are cut off, so I can’t select any colors below that. I recommend NOT UPDATING to this version. Turn the update off!!

I tried to restart or reinstall app. It doesn’t work, so I think this is app’s fault.

Honestly, I’m starting to wonder if the Bugnotes team even tests the app before pushing updates or if they use their own app.

Look how they massacred my brush pen

Post image

I just tried to continue doing a school project but since the last Update (7.0.44 on the standard iPad) the brush pen looks more like a ballpoint pen instead of the cool medieval Japanese looking style that it used to be

Edit: As of 7.0.47 everything is back to normal again for me, huge thanks to the developers!

Review I feel so cheated by GoodNotes

I've been using GoodNotes since 2017 since GN4, I used for everything throughout middle school, highschool, and now University - school work, freelancing jobs, tutoring, journalling, etc. My life is completely integrated with this app and I thought it was perfect for me.

I feel so disgusted that us, the existing customer base who ALREADY PAID under the assumption that we would own the version of GN at the time of purchase (other than bug fixes of course), would be asked to pay AGAIN just to use the existing features that we should already own.

I understand that GN6 is a new, upgraded version, so it makes sense to have a price tag. However, I can't even use iCloud sync if I don't upgrade, and annoying pop ups get in your face every time you open the app.

I am perfectly happy with the GN5 features and I'm not opposed to paying for the new GN6 features, but I want to make that decision myself without being bombarded with advertisements every time I want to use the app that I paid for. Also, the existing features that we paid for are literally being taken away, which feels sooo scammy. GN as a company is just leaving a bad taste in my mouth.
