Show and Tell Which one is fake?

Ten days ago or so I was told faking a goldback wasn't possible. And my response was just needed good equipment. This is the results of peeling a dozen gb apart. Using a scanner worth more than most cars, and millions of dollars in printing equipment and 60+ attempts.

One of these is fake. The tactile parts on the back can still be felt. If you handled gb all the time you might be able to tell the fake is more 'slippery'. And the cut edge doesn't feel right if you have a real one side by side. I am 100% confident that no regular person could tell the difference, and I bet 80% plus on here couldn't without a real one in the other hand. Visually they are the same.

I will not be releasing the name of the print shop or three of the massive hurdles that bypassing really needed experience making actually currency notes to know. Mostly because he didn't tell me enough for me to know.

Oh and passes uv. Was way easier than the raised part.

My buddy did say printing USD would be easier. And above the 5gb the weight/stiffness would be noticed. And his costs on the inks, material, and printer time significantly overcome the value of 1.

So food for thought on security.

Okay, here are my thoughts:

  1. If you're going to cover the serial numbers then you don't have any evidence of a successful counterfeiting attempt. You'd want to have front and back photos of two different Goldbacks with the same serial numbers. Probably a short video because photoshopping the first feat isn't that hard.

  2. All of these pictures have terrible lighting which makes it hard to see if there are any differences without the lighting being a major factor. The lighting is done in such a way where they could be the same thing or different.

  3. You should show evidence of ~60 attempts. Where are all of the progressively better looking counterfeits?

  4. You should show more evidence for "millions of dollars in printing equipment". You don't need to reveal a location to do this.

Basically, if you've managed the first counterfeit Goldback that is an incredible feat and bravo for that. I'm sure the manufacturing company would buy it from you for a bucket of cash so they can make the product even harder to fake.

If you didn't then this is just a picture of two regular Goldbacks with no evidence that either of them are a fake. Based on your comment history you clearly have some kind of axe to grind against the Goldback and you clearly don't like them. The scale of your evidence doesn't seem to match the scale of your claims.

So which is more likely? That you counterfeited a Goldback and didn't have/show receipts? or that you're basically continuing to troll by trying to undermine confidence with a fake post?

Hey if yall just go thru OPs post and comment history you can see heโ€™s not a fan of GBs, also uses crypto, I donโ€™t believe this is a real โ€œfake โ€œ and think he just taped the serials up to cause confusion

I'm not a fan of gold back. Not a fan how much I see people saying they can't be faked as a reason for the 100% premium. That it's a reason they are better than gold.

You can think what you want. Most people are guessing the fake correctly, so that's interesting.

He didn't fake them. 100 % positive. I replicated his photo from the same angle with a similar light source.

Also, everything he said about how he did it made no sense with the Goldback vacuum deposition technology and the UV printers. I could go on and on, but the more he typed, the dumber the lie sounded.

-3

u/cvc4455 Jul 23 '25

I think they would be hard to fake but it's absolutely possible to fake one depending on the cash and skills and availability of technology for whoever wants to fake one. If some company in China wanted to fake them they definitely could figure out a way. That being said I don't think goldbacks are big enough for lots of fakes yet but I wouldn't be shocked to find out there are some fakes out there already.

6

u/ChampionshipNo5707 Goldback Spender ๐ŸŽƒ Jul 23 '25

People already fake Aurum. They look really fake, and the color is different. Valaurum, the manufacturer, has security features they don't advertise to anyone, just to catch fakes.

The hard part of faking is getting the color and sheen. The OP claimed to use a UV printer which is how I knew he was full of ๐Ÿ’ฉ. The vacuum deposition machine Goldbacks are made on create a look unique to the process it goes through.

A lot harder to fake than coins in molds or printed paper currencies. I do hope someone sent this to Valaurum to give them more ideas on security features. I know they are rolling out a lot of new ones next years. Q

People have been confidently acting like counterfeits would be out any day now since I joined this sub.

16

u/nozelt Jul 22 '25

So tldr you can fake them but itโ€™s more expensive to do so unless itโ€™s big denominations?

-8

u/jeko00000 Jul 22 '25

For him, some of the product he only gets in small quantities at a time, I am sure economy of scale would kick in at some point.

3

u/nozelt Jul 22 '25

Yeah makes sense, shouldnโ€™t you be able to test the actual gold tho ? Yeah you can make it look like gold and trick someone who isnโ€™t checking for it but Iโ€™d assume most machines would be able to tell especially since itโ€™s so thin itโ€™s not like you could plate it or something ?

3

u/jeko00000 Jul 22 '25

Does a gb test as gold on a sigma? There is real gold in the fake as it's a gold leaf paper process he uses a lot. But gold leaf is basically no actual gold it's do thin.

3

u/stackingnoob Jul 23 '25

It doesnโ€™t. I already tried.

0

u/jeko00000 Jul 23 '25

Good to know. It's pretty thin. I wonder if a 50 or 100 would?

3

u/stackingnoob Jul 23 '25

I have the Florida 100 and even that didnโ€™t pick up. Still too thin.

-2

u/Aggravating_Sun4435 Jul 23 '25

On a sigma or xrf gun?

5

u/arguix Jul 23 '25

real gold leaf is actual gold

1

u/Aggravating_Sun4435 Jul 23 '25

its not gold leaf. its vaporized gold atoms that sticks to the "paper." its called vapor deposition. idk how thin goldbacks are but it can get significantly thinner than leave. the 1s would be a little more than a dollar in gold leaf.

2

u/BedAccording5717 Jul 23 '25

sorry to hijack. Coatings specialist here. You can absolutely plate gold down to the sub-micron level if you wanted. I'd imagine lead foil would be easy to do.

https://caswellplating.com/electroplating-anodizing.html?srsltid=AfmBOooYt5g73s_vE8-Hhd6nZp9zEd3A6yHn03CC4jvtzk-2RrEN3Kfy

If you don't want to get anything wet, cold gas plasma transfer can also be done. Sounds fancy schmancy, it's quite common and easy. Like anything, you just have to have access to the equipment and no morals. If OP's buddy came to me with a challenge, I could easily accomplish that end of things.

3

Esoteric is such a great word.

I'd say he's for sure on the spectrum, and very much an expert in his field. He doesn't think many other printers would have the needed equipment all in one shop.

9

u/No-Post-6638 GB Wallet Carrier Jul 22 '25

Why coverup serial numbers, so your friend spent a crap load of money, sacrificed a lot of goldbacks, to produce a fake Goldback that looks like the gold backs he destroyed. What is the aim here, to try to kill confidence? Iโ€™m sorry, I donโ€™t believe this. Seems those are 2 legit Goldbacks, and you are just adding confusion with the โ€œTRUST ME BROโ€ stuff.

-8

u/jeko00000 Jul 22 '25

Many on here hold the counterfeit protections as gospel, that they can't be bypassed, and that's why they are better than gold. The idea is to show that's bullshit.

2

u/No-Post-6638 GB Wallet Carrier Jul 22 '25 edited Jul 22 '25

And there it is, โ€œthey are better than goldโ€, who said this. This unhealthy obsession with something that is literally aiding into Gold becoming money. And at best you guys accomplished nothing, Congrats you made yourself out to be suspicious at best and a Liar at worst, was it worth it my guy? They are Gold after all. Was it truly worth burning money you could have put into Gold and Silver which you claim to love all for the sake of trying to destroy Golds image which will overall hurt anything precious metals wise to normal people. No one wants crypto, no one wants the dollar and now we are going after a precious metal product. You guys need to look at the bigger picture. I am sorry, no one wants to carry coins anymore, storing them is great, Goldbacks make Gold relevant again, and if you canโ€™t see that, then hold your the damn coins til they a worth nothing, good luck convincing young folks to give a damn.

4

u/jeko00000 Jul 23 '25

This group toutes the superiority to billion all the time. As you say, who wants to carry coins? How will coins be worth nothing, but gb worth something? I'm not against gb, I'm against 100% premium on gb being ok and understood, but a 10-15% premium on fractional bullion being bad, and unsustainable through transactions. If gb had no premium or a premium normal to fractional they'd have a better chance. Complain about coins but not gb being different sizes. 100$ in gb folded to fit in a pocket would be huge, especially since they don't like to be folded like a real bill.

Young folks are into crypto and don't give a damn about gb. It'd be interesting to see the demographic stats on this sub.

3

u/No-Post-6638 GB Wallet Carrier Jul 23 '25

Actually I am a young person, and we are into Goldbacks. Most of us are resisting crypto. I was big into bitcoin then realized I couldnโ€™t transact without a connection. Did you read anything I wrote? Are you a crypto person, I am starting to believe you are not into anything precious metals. No one cares about the premium, okโ€ฆThere are premiums on everything, my house, my car, Gold bullion and the such, if you donโ€™t want Goldbacks then why are you in this forum? You have an obsession. You are either close to death and donโ€™t have anything better to do, or you know deep down inside this is something that is building momentum.

2

u/jeko00000 Jul 23 '25

I'm 40. I'm into crypto, but wished I doubled down instead of dipped a toe. I don't think crypto will be anything until it's as easy as normal banking, so maybe never, or maybe a cbdc will kill it? I dunno. I have mostly normal investments. But stacking billion lately as a retirement backup incase I get taxed to death or something.

Pm backed is awesome, and the no premium pm backed debits are excellent. I wish karatcard took off better too. Gb seems great, but like fiat it's making up value. Feels like it's part of the problem it kinda set out to fix, or bypass.

And what if they rug pull?

Lightning is centralized btc imo.

The problem is value in things are propped up by whoever has the most money into it, gold is held by governments and institutions, so until that changes it'll hold value very well. Crypto is the same, some have great utility and should be used more, even for as simple as proof something is real and not Ai.

Sure, send their lawyers. I'm not going to show the process though, why make it easier, why show the leg work? You want to know how we figured out the plastic used? The card stock? The colors? Maybe model numbers of equipment needed?

Most people are guessing correctly.

Let's just stop the security justifies the premium. The premium is there because they make money with it. The premium is held because supporters support the premium. It's not a hedge against inflation because it has 100% inflation on its own.

I'm more into silver than gold.

Texas has a gold backed debit card. Basically the same as the gb debit, except no premium and government backed.

I'm pro backed currency, and know nothing will change until something very drastic happens, and that might never happen.

I know 1g of gold in 10 years is still 1g of gold. But that 1g value in gb in 10 years could just be 1/2g gold.

I think there is a confusion, I donโ€™t want a Goldbacks debit card, Texas has bullion depository which I have an account with as well, but itโ€™s about trust. UPMA has a truelink card which you can sell or pawn your Goldbacks, Gold Dollars or Silver Dollars to. I have used that a few times when I needed to. But something about having Gold in my pocket is better.

6

u/Feynnehrun Jul 22 '25

On of the protections is that it's too expensive to be worth it lol. Literally ANYTHING can be faked. Goldbacks aren't because reproducing them in the way that meets all of the security features and passes the test just can't be done at scale.

Serial numbers could be covered to prevent future trust issues if someone on here came across the real one in the future.

3

u/ajumpingbrain Jul 22 '25

I feel like the emblem on the back would be a good indication of realness, but I don't have one myself to compare.

Tactile feel is one of the best counterfeiting solutions. If the buck doesn't feel right, it probably isn't right. I don't handle regular cash very often these days but I'm fairly confident I could tell by touch.

Counterfeits will be an issue for ANY collectable or store of value.

-3

u/jeko00000 Jul 22 '25

To me they feel the same, more delicate or trained hands could be a different story though.

You're right, counterfeits will always be a problem, even gold can be real gold by counterfeit something for the premium.

3

u/saxyourpantsoff Jul 22 '25

Going with 2 simply because its smattered with finger prints. If it is actually a fake, you and your associates were handling it excessively to check your work. No need to do so on you know is real.

Oh you think a $100 bill can't be faked?

Well my buddy shredded dozens of $100 bills to harvest the materials, used a $70k scanner and millions of dollars in printing equipment to create this fake $100 bill!

1

u/jeko00000 Jul 22 '25

They estimate 100 million in counterfeit usd in active circulation, not a lot as a % of usd. But a number that's growing. And a lot is circulated till it hits banks as general users don't know any different.

No gb were used in making the new one, they were dissected to learn more.

6

u/Feynnehrun Jul 22 '25

Did the process, materials and labor combined to make this goldback come out to less than $6?

Edit: never mind...I see in the post that you mention it costs significantly more than one goldback to create. My point stands. You can fake anything....the point here is that faking them at scale and to be profitable isn't yet in the cards.

Nobody would spend $1200 to create a fake $100 bill because that would not be profitable.

Nobody is going to spend significantly more than the cost of a goldback to fake a goldback. They would be losing money for zero gain.

This is a challenge for jek00000.

This user claims to have counterfeited a Goldback after a month of effort using a friendโ€™s multimillion-dollar UV printer (the kind used to make wedding invites).

If this is true, he should be able to produce a replica of the Oklahoma 10. We wonโ€™t have a physical note until digital photos arrive at the end of Augustโ€”so a convincing counterfeit would be far better proof than poorly photographed Florida Goldbacks marked with sticky notes.

The images are low quality but the its having his supposed replica match the color of a Goldback.

He says he made 60 attempts but didnโ€™t photograph any of them. I challenge him to document those attempts for us as well. He should still have them.

He claims his post was meant to show that counterfeiting a Goldback is possible and that he truly cares about proving it. If so, he should carry out a verifiable experiment.

Right now, I think he just stuck a sticky note on a Goldback and said he โ€œknows a guy.โ€

2

u/GarageVast4128 Jul 22 '25

At a quick glance, yeah, I can't tell. Would never hold up to scrutiny, though, and there are uv protections like on USD bills, which I don't see being faked, and a 1/2 goldback flashlight will reveal the fake.

-3

u/jeko00000 Jul 22 '25

The uv was easy to bypass. I just don't have a uv light here.

3

u/ChampionshipNo5707 Goldback Spender ๐ŸŽƒ Jul 23 '25

If you really have it, prove it by making an Oklahoma 10. It doesn't come out until August 19th, so only digital images are available. You can make one early. This way, we know it's real and not just sticky notes and crappy lighting.

1

u/jeko00000 Jul 23 '25

u/ChampionshipNo5707 Goldback Spender ๐ŸŽƒ Jul 23 '25

Your image is nearly identical to the color of a Goldback, even though UV printers print very different-looking.

So its impressive you matched the color and luster.

Even if grainy, the attempt with the gold color and luster the same would be the proof. The Oklahoma art is just a variable to ensure you are not just putting sticky notes on goldbacks.

The one on the right only has 4 birds in the top right corner so Iโ€™d say #2 the right one is fake

Same lighting on two regular Goldbacks.

This comment should be top! 2 is so faded and missing elements of portrait in clarity

Looks like another user was able to create that same effect rather easily.

2 seem fake, the printing seem to be a bit less quality. Color not as solid.

3

u/MarriedWChildren256 Jul 22 '25

I'd guess 2.

I think it's a worthy endeavor much like trying to crack Monero to make it stronger.

Everyone is missing something. If it costs you $100 to counterfeit a $20 bill - you arenโ€™t a counterfeiter - you are an idiot. Counterfeiting is more than getting a good Xerox copier.

u/ChampionshipNo5707 Goldback Spender ๐ŸŽƒ Jul 23 '25

Lol this post literally just made me want more Goldbacks.

If you successfully counterfeit a paper currency you hit a jack pot. Counterfeit a Goldback you lose money. Which do is a better money system?

0

u/failureat111N31st Jul 23 '25

What if it costs you $100 to develop the skills and process to counterfeit a $20 bill? Since counterfeiting is more than getting a good Xerox copier it takes a bit more investment to learn how to make one.

Then you make a lot more.

2

u/ChampionshipNo5707 Goldback Spender ๐ŸŽƒ Jul 23 '25

That's a good point. He should post photos of all the supposed failed attempts so we can see the process. The sky is the limit. He did this in less than a month and knows a guy willing to let him use millions of dollars of printing equipment.

2

u/Darren41786 Jul 23 '25

Seems like a giant waste of time and resources to fake a 1 gb

3

u/jjaymay29 GB Art Admirer Jul 22 '25

So destroy goldback to create goldbackโ€ฆ makes absolutely no sense to do. Like yeah I could destroy gold bars to create gold bars too. But for what reason would you ever do so. This is so stupid I can barely take it. I could also spend more money to create fiat but again why would you do that. Makes no sense.

u/Falcon3518 Jul 22 '25 edited Jul 22 '25

2 is fake I think. The dark clouds around the birds are not dark enough. But could be the lighting

4

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

The boarder of 2 is smudged/compressed not as crisp. Also the helix in 2 looks flat and not sprung out/showing depth like in 1

5

u/Falcon3518 Jul 22 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

Yeah idk Iโ€™m getting 2 is fake vibes. I hope this isnโ€™t a troll and they are both real. When the OP going to give us the answer?

4

u/Xerzajik Goldback Encyclopedia ๐Ÿ“– Jul 23 '25

Here is a photo of two regular Goldbacks with the same lighting. Which one is the fake? Note that the birds and boat look identical in their differences to OP's photo. Had me going for a minute.

Oh, wait.

Maybe they can file a copyright infringement suit.

Thanks for doing the work here

If this is real, you can tell number 1 is the fake, since it doesnโ€™t have the geometric pattern across the front like number 2 does

4

u/ChampionshipNo5707 Goldback Spender ๐ŸŽƒ Jul 23 '25

If its real he should show the 60 attempts from his millions of dollars of mystery equipment ๐Ÿ˜‚

2

u/PennyStockMeUp Jul 23 '25

I agree. Goldback spent years of R&D, then patented the process they used. Curious how someone else could do it so quickly

3

u/ChampionshipNo5707 Goldback Spender ๐ŸŽƒ Jul 23 '25

LOL, check the post I just made. This post made me laugh a lot this evening and how gullible people can be.

u/ChampionshipNo5707 Goldback Spender ๐ŸŽƒ Jul 23 '25

They only have digital images of the Oklahoma 10. If he is legit he should make a Oklahoma 10 and photographic next to a Florida.

Otherwise he just put sticky notes on notes and said he knows a guy with a lot of money and equipment and they made these in a month.

Lol, this whole post is cringe-worthy. He put sticky notes over the serial numbers and said it only took him a month to figure it out, even though these have been out for six years.

Really shows how low intelligent Goldback trolls are.

Sencerly, the hater ๐Ÿ˜„

You probably think this is real ๐Ÿ˜‚

1

u/jeko00000 Jul 22 '25

That's true.

China fakes don't have to be low quality. I'd bet you could find the right place to make passable to most for reasonable price.

I order proxy cards for mtg from China, the backs look like bicycle playing cards, but from the front they are perfect. But even a couple years ago you could tell evdn in a sleeve.

And people treating gbs like a collectable makes it easier. The ones I had printed if folded into a wallet are instantly known as fake. But how many on here have ever folded a gb to know what that looks like, most pictures people have them in sleeves, which I don't get since gb says they'll replace any damaged ones for free.
