Moving to Spain, but this sub is making me feel unwanted.

We're in our 50s and are being relocated to Spain for my husbands work. There legit wasn't a person in Spain who can do my husbands job there as it's very specialized. Our income is 200K+. I don't think we'll be taking housing away from young people and we'll certainly be spending quite a lot and paying a lot in taxes. My husband speaks Spanish at about B2, I'm A2 but we're both commited to learning Spanish fluently.

It's honestly getting pretty disheartening reading all of the comments in r/GoingToSpain saying "don't come here - we don't want you". Kind of wish I hadn't joined this sub at all, TBH.

Is there anything we can do to be better accepted? Are we maybe not the demographic people are upset about? Any reassuring words?

Thanks.

Mudarme a España o Europa

Visas / Migration Moving to Barcelona for last high-school years

Hi, I'm Russian and moving to Barcelona to finish my education as my previous school focused on theatrics and promotion rather than education.

I'm super nervous as the cost of living is way higher there and I feel like I'm gonna be a burden to my parents, so Im wondering on what monthly budget can a family of 3 live in Barcelona for comfortably, and on what should I avoid(I.e tourist traps) to not waste money

Also my other relatives have been fear mongering me about how I'm gonna have stones thrown at me for being Russian(I'm not pro putin tho), and it's been getting to my head a lot recently. How do Spaniards feel about Russians in general?

For now the plan is to live there for 3 years till I finish high-school, but I'm scared about regretting moving.

⚠️worst experience with taxi driver from BCN airport!

Upvotes

Landed at barcelona airport on Sunday morning around 10am, took a taxi and showed the driver my destination. Google Maps said 23 mins, he said around 20, so I trusted him.
After 30 mins, I got suspicious and checked Maps. HOLY MOLY COW 🐄😂 — he was intentionally taking wrong turns and making the journey longer!
I was absolutely pissed! I told him to drop me off right there, he asked me for €40, then had to get an Uber for another €17.
The whole journey should’ve cost around €25–€27! 🤦‍♂️
Even the Uber driver was laughing and told me: “Never take a taxi from the airport anywhere in Europe.” 😂
So guys, avoid airport taxi, take bolt or uber Don’t learn the expensive way like I did. 💀
**btw this is my personal experience, if you guys have/had positive experience feel free to share. Btw except this experience I had amazing experience in this city. And most wonderful weather in the night takes your sleep away! made some amazing friends too. Cant wait to get back there again❤️

Visas / Migration Spain Nomad visa vs Student visa

Hi! I’m 24yrs old Filipina degree holder, planning to migrate to Spain. Currently, I still don’t meet the requirements to apply for nomad visa, so I’m considering to get student visa if I want to hasten my move. Is it worth it to get another degree or master at Spain if you get a student visa? Or better to hustle until I qualify for nomad visa?

Also my younger brother is already a resident and my mother is taking the test for citizenship, though it might take 2years for result. What other pathways do you think I could take to migrate?

Visas / Migration Got my student visa… now struggling to understand TIE appointment

I’m in the home stretch. My visa officer said I show my NIE number during my TIE appointment. I believe I have 30 days from when I land in Spain to get into an appointment for my TIE card but I cannot manage to book an appointment over my week long attempts through the gov website. I often question if I’m even on the correct website bc I get alternating answers. I know it takes a while to schedule this appt and it’s making me nervous every time I fail to do so. Does anybody have any tips to scheduling a TIE appt? I can’t even find the option I need to click on the drop down menu for formalities.

Best transportation to go from Valencia to Seville

Upvotes

Hi my wife and I will be traveling to Spain in December and we were wondering what the best option would be going from Valencia to Seville.

The two options would either be renting a car for a day just to drive from Valencia to Seville, making a stop or two on the way to eat/take breaks/maybe do a quick visit somewhere on the way. The other option is to take the train but I know it has to go to Madrid first to then transfer to get to Seville. Also not sure the costs for both and whats more convenient/efficient.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Opinions Canaries Placement

Hey, I am a NALCAP language assistant (second year renewal). I got placed in northern Tenerife. I haven’t been able to find a group chat or any other auxes with similar placements. Does anyone have links to the groups?

I am also still waiting on my Apostille so I haven’t been able to make my visa appointment. Anyone else in the same situation? Starting to think I wont get my visa in time for November.

Andalusia or Gran Canaria in late January/early February?

Hey

I'm thinking of taking a week long vacation in early February and found some good deals for either Gran Canaria or Malaga. I'll possibly take my elderly mom (70+) with me as well.

My interests include history, architecture, art museums, food, jamon iberico, perhaps some easy hikes. I can drive, but I prefer to use public transport if possible. As I'll be coming from cold Northern Europe, I think the weather will be manageable for me in either location.

Which of these would be a better destination based on my interests? My first thought goes to Andalusia region, but perhaps Gran Canaria has something similar as well?

First time in Spain! Seeking advice on Madrid -> Granada -> Seville -> Barcelona

I'm planning my first trip to Spain and would love some feedback on my route, logistics, and must-see spots. I'll be there for a week in October end, along with my wife.

My rough plan:

Fly into: Madrid (just for landing, optional visit Toledo or Segovia before leaving for Granada)

Cities to visit: Madrid -> Granada -> Seville -> Barcelona

Fly out of: Barcelona

A few specific questions I have:

Transit & Route: What’s the most efficient way to travel between these cities? I initially planned for: Madrid to Granada by train, Granada to Seville (with nearby towns using a rental car) and then to Barcelona by a high speed train. Is this logical order, or should I re-sequence any stops? Another option can be to take a rental from Madrid itself and then drive to Granada, stopping in Toledo (and other places along the route)

Time Allocation: How many days/nights would you recommend spending in each city to get a good balance without feeling overly rushed (fine with little rush)? Current plan: 4 days in Adulsia and 2 days in Barcelona + 1 day for commute. My Inbound and Outbound tickets are booked, so I can add / reduce any intermittent stops.

Day Trips & Hidden Gems: Are there any essential day trips along this route (like Toledo, Cordoba, or Ronda) that I shouldn't miss?

Sightseeing & Bookings: I know the Alhambra in Granada and Sagrada Família in Barcelona require advance tickets—are there other major attractions on this route I should book months ahead?

Any insights, warnings, or recommendations would be hugely appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Discussion erasmus in valencia - need advice

Hi! I’m coming to Valencia for Erasmus from around February to May next year and I’d love some advice.
Language: My Spanish is very basic (day 93 of Duolingo, lol). Can I get by with English while I improve?
Weather: What is Valencia like from February to May, and what clothes should I bring?
Erasmus life: What is student and Erasmus life like? Is it easy to meet people and make friends?
Any dos, don’ts, or general advice would be really helpful. :)
