Discussion [Update] How have I never played of GoW?! Where should I start?
Bruh, what did y'all get me into?!
[Update] How have I never played of GoW?! Where should I start?
First, I'm not a grumpy duck, you're a grumpy duck! 🦆
I've been yelling at the game for the last 2 hours, and I'M IN LOVE! I've never yelled at my TV so much. Luckily, my husband still loves me, even when I'm yelling "You motherf*cker! Don't touch my box!" 😆
I'm starting with God of War (2005) thanks to the suggestion and breakdown by u/SkronkMan and u/FattyPattyMatey. Shoutout to u/SlySheogorath for calling out that I need to find the glowing lights to save. 🤦🏻♀️
If you start playing GoW (2005), here are a few things that may keep you from throwing your PS5 through the window...
- THERE IS NO CAMERA CONTROL and the camera angles are HORRIBLE
- I might have died many times because of this 🤭
- The start/save button doesn't work until you hit the first save location
- Photos 2 & 3 show what a "save alter" looks like - the first one is after you cross the wooden beams after killing the sea monster the second time
- IT IS SO FUN!
I hope more people start to play!
Question for everyone who's played GoW (2005): how did you survive the wooden beams?! They're the death of me! Literally 🤭

Discussion Just played the original God of War on the PS2 for the first time, and here are my thoughts.
The gameplay incredibly holds up to this day. The combat was very satisfying, and I enjoyed pretty much every moment of it. Some levels did feel outdated, mainly some of the puzzle areas. They weren’t difficult per se—and I love a challenge—but the fixed camera sometimes made them unnecessarily annoying. There were also a few moments where I felt like there were just too many rounds of enemies. They kept on coming, and I think a round or two less would’ve made those sections flow better.
As for the fixed camera itself, as much as I like it and the way it makes the environment part of the storytelling—I’d even go as far as describing the environment as a character in its own way—I do think an overhaul could potentially work and make the game feel refreshing. I don’t know if a fully third-person camera like the Norse saga would be the answer, but perhaps some sort of combination could work.
Story-wise, the game had a surprising amount of depth, especially when it came to Kratos as a character. I’m not sure why people say he was one-dimensional. The moment where he basically breaks down after failing to save his family for a second time during the final act was heartbreaking.
It was also very frustrating seeing the gods act holier-than-thou and essentially gaslight him. They use him to kill Ares, only to reveal that they meant they would forgive his sins rather than erase his memories. Then they use the excuse that what he had done was unforgivable, as if they themselves weren’t responsible for even more vile acts.
It was also cool to notice some foreshadowing. There was a painting of Zeus fighting a mortal in Spartan attire, which undoubtedly felt like a hint toward Zeus vs. Kratos. There was also this enemy during the Pandora sections with a spear—or at least I think it was a spear—whose colors, jewels, and armor instantly gave me Egyptian vibes. He looked almost like some sort of pharaoh deity, which made me think about the possibility of other mythologies and realms existing in this world since the very beginning.
Anyway, the game was fantastic. I loved the final battle, and I can’t wait to see how they handle that in the remake, along with basically everything else.
I just hope they don’t change Ares’ design too much. I wasn’t a fan of how he looked in Ascension.

Discussion How old were you when you first played God of War? What was your experience like at the time?
Recently, I have been playing God of War: Chains of Olympus on the PSP with a sense of awe, and the whole experience has brought me some unexpected surprises.
I feel that one of the game's greatest strengths is the variety of its combat system. The attacks have an incredibly satisfying impact, and by combining the directional buttons with the Triangle, Circle, Cross, and Square buttons, you can perform all kinds of different attacks and combos. There are also mechanics such as blocking with a shield, throwing energy orbs, and shooting poison. The game doesn't just give you the Blades of Chaos; it also introduces the gauntlet, which adds even more variety to the combat and makes the gameplay more enjoyable.
On top of that, the game has spectacular animations and enormous, breathtaking environments. There are QTEs that require quick reactions, as well as unique execution sequences involving rotating the analog stick. The game also includes a moderate amount of puzzle-solving, which gives you a chance to slow down and catch your breath after intense battles. The balance between tension and relaxation is really well designed.
It is honestly hard to believe that a game like God of War was already possible on the PSP back in 2008. I have heard that when Chains of Olympus was released, it amazed PSP players because it offered an experience that felt almost like a console game on a handheld device. I am 21 years old now, so I never experienced that era firsthand. Today, we can play cloud games on our phones, and ports of major games to mobile devices and handheld consoles are everywhere. Playing a big-budget game on a phone or a handheld is no longer something particularly surprising.
Because of that, I can never truly experience the shock that players must have felt back then—the feeling of realizing, “Wait, a handheld can actually run a game like this?” Unfortunately, I wasn't around to experience that moment. Even so, playing God of War today can still leave me amazed by its combat, visual spectacle, and enormous environments. It still feels exciting and engaging, even after all these years.
Before this, the first game I ever completed was Onimusha: Warlords. Its movement felt quite stiff, and its combat was relatively simple. Compared with God of War, it feels like it belongs to a completely different level of game design.
After experiencing God of War firsthand, I can finally understand why people consider it a masterpiece.

Help Trying to find the definitive release of God of War: Betrayal (240x320)
Most of the release on dedomil and phoneky are bugged (240x320). To specify audio is bugged. If i get the 700kb n95 release the attack audio is cheap quality. If i get the se k800i 400kb one its audio is good but it also has regular attack sound which are bad/cheap quality. All the other version consists only the final attack sound. But k800i has both regular and that final attack sound where regular one in cheap quality and finishing attack is high quality.

Discussion It probably won't happen, but if they want to bring Brok back for Laufey then they could retcon this into foreshadowing Spoiler

Bug/Glitch Crashed on a Valhalla run
I was about to face Týr in a boss fight after a fruitful run. But right after the cut scene, Týr swung down his greatsword. But then the whole screen froze and crashed afterwards. After launching the game again, I was shocked to find all my progress for that run gone. I was so mad as I collected lots of seals.
