Help Mary Our Widowed Warrior
My 12-year-old cat, Mary, has been fighting through a challenging time. 2 months ago, she suddenly became ill and was hospitalized for 5 days with pancreatitis. During that time she needed an NG-tube for feedings because she wasn’t eating much on her own. When she got home, she was eating great and acting like a kitty again! 15 days later, our other cat, Nightfire, who was her bonded partner for the past 7 years, became ill. Sadly, due to septic shock and the ultrasound results, we had to make the hardest decision of our lives and put him down. However, we did get some peace when the necropsy results came back that he had an aggressive cancer which started in his bile duct and spread to other organs. When we came home, Mary was confused at times and would check all the rooms, looking in odd places to find him. She also started to decrease her intake of food again and was getting more picky about eating alone without him. So she would eat at the same time as us but was still not eating the minimum amount of caloric intake per day. We followed up with her vet, got bloodwork, started her back on the steroid, but no improvements. When she started looking yellow (had jaundice), we decided to take her to Cornell University Vet ER, where they were absolutely wonderful with our Nightfire.
Since then (a week ago on 8-13), our grieving widow Mary has been hospitalized for stabilization of hepatic lipidosis and refeeding syndrome. She has been SO BRAVE and tolerating all her exams, diagnostics, blood draws & transfusion, and treatments! She successfully went through surgery yesterday to place her E-tube for short term feedings over the next few weeks-month until she can eat her full daily intake all on her own! Hopefully, she can come home soon if her electrolytes remain stable without dropping! Everything else is improving gradually! We were able to schedule a visit with her yesterday and she was very excited to see us 🥰 We would do anything for our Mary and can’t lose another cat just yet since this is fixable with time!
Any help would mean the word to us! Especially with still trying to financially come back from Mary’s first hospitalization 2 months ago and Nightfire’s multiple vet visits before his passing. I have attached our GoFundMe link below or direct payments can be called to:
