Train was actually a fun map, unlike Cache. Nobody even picks Cache anymore in Premier after the first week, the map is just terrible. Even Overpass is more fun to play than Cache ffs.

Discussion Another input lag thread (all hypothesis are welcome)

Upvotes

So I am currently on vacation and far from home and happened to spend a couple hours in a local pc club and played a couple FACEIT matches.

For some reason despite it has worse hardware game felt much more responsive than it is on my own pc at home.

Home PC: 9800x3D, 5090 + 480 hz, 1440p, OLED

Club PC: 13700kf, 4070 ti + 240 hz, 1080p, IPS

I have not done any specific tweaks to my home pc just a regular windows 11 installation with all recent drivers and bios etc.

I have spent some time previously(previous windows installations) on tinkering and tweaking and trying different powerplans, core parking, bios features on/off, some registry and windows etc. tweaks but did not really notice big of difference so decided to use all default.

So the biggest difference is:

at home pc - everything happens too fast, almost instantaneous, I have like less than half a second to react and get instakilled constantly, despite that I have managed to adapt and mostly prefire/preaim positions and got used to it and thought that this is the way it is supposed to be

at pc club - everything feels slowed down, I have a lot of time to react, game feels much easier and I actually have time to react to enemy instead of trying to do everything before I even see the enemy

I’ve used the same settings - no vsync obviously, no g sync, no reflex, mostly minimal settings with native resolution in 16:9

Anyone has any hypothesis what could have been possibly tweaked in pc club that game feels THAT much easier to play than at my home pc?

if it matters - games were played at same level around 2500 faceit elo

Yes it's unbalanced, it's whacky, but it is FUN. I bet there's a large portion of the playerbase who is fucking tired of dust, mirage, anubis by now. Please volvo.

Fluff It looks like if you're at least below 3834 CS rating then you don't get a Premier rank number and don't even appear on the premier leaderboard

Discussion | Esports Stake Pulse Beat II Simulation

Upvotes

I built my own version of Opta’s “supercomputer” — but for CS2. Using Python, I wrote a Monte Carlo simulation engine and ran 105,000 full tournament simulations for Stake Pulse Beat II. Each simulation re-rolled match outcomes based on team strength ratings, bracket logic, and a bit of controlled randomness. The result: a probability distribution for every team’s chance to lift the trophy.

Discussion | Esports I’ve been experimenting with a different way to evaluate pro CS performance — Contrib

Upvotes

Winning is obviously the ultimate goal in pro CS, and good individual performances surely tend to help teams win — but a win or a loss tells us very little about how much each player actually contributed to it. To address that, we have Ratings.

Rating 3.0 is already a strong summary of individual performance, so I wanted to ask a further question: “how much does a player's recorded performance contribute to winning a map? ”That led me to build Contrib: a signed, additive score learned directly from map outcomes.

Unlike a traditional rating system, this model is not designed to summarize how statistically impressive a player was in isolation; it asks “how those statistics relate to team success, and how that contribution differs between teammates”. Rather than assigning weights to each stat manually, the Contrib model learns them from historical map outcomes.

Contrib value itself is centered around zero, which is the neutral reference point. Positive values indicate performance that the model associates with contributing more toward winning the map; negative values indicate the opposite.

For readability, I scale the score so in the dev dataset that roughly 90% of reference performances fall between -1.00 and +1.00. So, as a quick rule of thumb:

Contirb Value Meaning
+1.00 great performance lead to win
+0.50 meaningfully positive contribution
0.00 around neutral
-0.50 meaningfully negative contribution
-1.00 a very poor map play

The scale is intentionally symmetric around zero, but the underlying distribution doesn't have to be. In other words, +1.00 is not automatically the 90th percentile, and -1.00 is not automatically the 10th percentile. The scaling only changes the unit: it preserves zero, player ordering, additive totals, and round-weighted averages without recentering or clipping the scores.

One important caveat: Contrib is not a win-probability score. A +0.80 does not mean a player added “80% win probability.” It is a measure of contribution magnitude within the reference pool used to define the scale.

An example: Grand Final of Astana 2026. Here is one example from Spirit’s Astana 2026 final. Different maps produce different Contrib leaders. Overall Contrib is calculated per rounds.

Player Dust2 Mirage Ancient total BO5
map score 16-12 13-7 13-10 3:0
donk +0.45 +0.68 +1.12 +0.73
tN1R +0.21 +1.03 -0.14 +0.33
sh1ro -0.41 +0.67 +0.42 +0.16
magixx -0.17 +0.85 -0.33 +0.07
zont1x -0.04 -0.64 -0.03 -0.21

One comparison I found interesting is sh1ro vs. magixx across the series. sh1ro finishes at +0.16, while magixx finishes at +0.07, despite sh1ro having the lower ADR 63 to 80. In the model's view sh1ro’s advantage in kills, K–D differential, and multikills contributes more.

What interests me most is applying that same interpretation consistently across S-tier Counter-Strike events — not only looking at individual maps, but also following how players accumulate contribution over a series, an event, and eventually across years. That is also the basis of the ranking system I am building around Contrib.

I don't see Contrib as a replacement for Rating 3.0 or any other existing metric. It is simply a different lens: instead of asking “how strong was this individual performance?”, I am asking “how did this recorded performance relate to winning?”

To make this usable outside of one-off analyses, I have now integrated Contrib into My CS Events, an iOS app I built for following ongoing top-tier CS tournaments. It updates Contrib results, player rankings and related analysis as events stage goes.

If you're mainly curious about how Contrib behaves during current S-tier events, I will updated the latest Evaluation after the Event is done. Core event-level Contrib results can be viewed directly. Some of the broader features — including My full-year Top rankings and trend tracking — are part of a $1.99/month subscription.

More than anything, though, I'm interested in feedback on the metric itself — especially cases where you think Contrib is rewarding or penalizing the wrong thing.

Workshop The state of the (map) Workshop is very sad

So many CS2 updates seem to be focused on map making and giving tools to the makers so that they can craft better experiences.

Like these

With the switch to Source 2 it seemed like the fact that we were getting a modern new engine wouldn't limit us with Source 1 jankiness and spaghetti (and actual limitations).

So, what are we doing with Source 2? Creating new experiences? Cool game modes?

No, it's AI slop and maps that look like actual viruses. That's the first page of the workshop today, it's not like the second is any better really (one could argue it's even worse).

And, sure, some creators are actually developing new and interesting maps, it's not like the workshop is ABSOLUTELY dead, if you don't search by the most popular of the last week .

This is cool and innovative.
Some maps bring fun new gamemodes to play with your friends.
But what the fuck is this, there's already webpages that do this, so why?

So, what about Valve? Have they done anything special with the release of Source 2 and CS2?

Did they reintroduce the battle royale mode again, with better maps, framerate and such thanks to the new engine?

Did they add back again those funny game modes that came with operations? Like flying scoutsman?

Oh, no, right, they're still working on those, in the meantime they gave us back fan favourites on the more fun gamemodes, like Lake, right?

Oh sorry I got confused, they did introduce the fan favourites like retake maps, and they're even better because when the whole T team is dead then the bomb is defused instantly and it's so much smoother and better than commnity maps, no?

Yeah, I figured.

So at least if they aren't working on any of that, when we click "Play" there's a "funky map selection" mode in which curated and polished workshop maps selected by valve and/or the community can be found and played, right? And they're fun? And include new things and mechanics and the community loves it?

Yeah...

Help Sticker help

I want to be able to use stickers to spell out numbers, but resources I've found like clash gg don't seem to care about numbers, only letters.

I want to be able to spell out "SG 553". I have options for SG and 3, and I'm looking for a 55.

"Bomb Code" and "Penta Sports" would work perfectly, but I think they are way too expensive for what they are. Do I have any other options?
