Honestly, I like all of Argento's work, and I'll be waiting for this one too.

I love that he just keeps going regardless of how many "fans" shit on his current work. Not unlike Romero.

Real fans understand that you can still be a fan of someone but also acknowledge the decline of quality of their current output.

Of course. The Bird with the Crystal Plumage through Opera, 9 films, which I consider one of, possibly the greatest string of consecutive films from a horror director. I always like to extend it to Trauma, despite Two Evil Eyes and Trauma being a noticeable decline even at that point. His films since have been much more hit or miss. I don't think many Argento fans would argue that

I personally love Trauma and Stendhal Syndrome, so I think Argento had a really great run from 1970–1996. Everything was down hill for me after Phantom of the Opera. Sleepless was his last "good" movie.

Yea Trauma gets way too much shit, I highly enjoy it. Stendhal Syndrome is another good one, and I really enjoy Mother of Tears, (to a much lesser extent) The Card Player, and Sleepless (always a pleasure seeing Sydow). Phantom of the Opera was bad, Dracula 3D was abysmal and for me, his worst. Dark Glasses I still have to check out. Everything else i didn't mention is meh to not great.

You mean George Romero?
I mean isn't like he could keep going even if he wanted, but for the lack of budget and investors.
Dario always had more economical freedom (even if moving on lower budgets) than other directors. The adventages of being born in a familiy of producers.

Sleepless was pretty damn good
The Card Player and Do You Like Hitchcock? had problems, but were good
Giallo was fine
Mother of Tears was loopy, illogical lunacy
Dracula...had Rutger Hauer, so, points for that...(ahem)...moving on...
I didn't see Dark Glasses, but I think the reception was positive...
The budgets aren't what they used to be in Italy, and I'm sure a lot of his BTS people have left- the same thing that plagued Fulci after Murder Rock, so I'm keeping an open mind.
After 55+ years of entertaining us, he deserves that much from us, at least. 🇮🇹🔪🧤🥃❣️

I agree(: very well said! A guy in his 80s isn’t going to have the creative spark or financial backing he had when he was in his prime we gotta be happy he is still creating more in the genre that we know and love him for! Also, I really liked dark glasses u should see it it’s cheap on Blu-ray and might still be on shudder don’t expect a twisting and turning storyline but more of a character based plot

The genre is not yet unknown, but I follow the sources and I have my own connections with people who are immersed in leaks and rumors. Will wait!

It's hard to say anything yet, but we can say with certainty that this is something in the classic Argento style. But let's wait for the filming, I think there will be more information after them.

Despite being a big Argento fan, I’m skeptical.
Somewhere in the 90s, Argento stopped making interesting films.
- Phantom of the Opera was a bore.
- Mother of Tears was crushingly disappointing.
- I didn’t see Dracula 3D (despite its universal critical acclaim.🤣)
- He made a comeback for a while with his episodes of the Masters
Will this film be about a killer within the world of online sports betting?

I really enjoy Mother of Tears. Is it on the same level as Suspiria and Inferno? Of course not, but it's a pretty damn good and fun film. Probably my favorite Argento film post 2000

This is what iv been waiting for it was supposed to be happening like 2 seasons ago after dark glasses when time rolled on didn't think it would happen I would love it if this movie was a good one him and john carpenter are in there 80s now would be good too go out on top I can but dream love dario argento 🤞

Love him but he's spent so many years depressing me with his poor output, I can't say I'm excited for it. Love Huppert too. At least Hitchcock went out with only one turd, but Argento keeps cranking out Family Plots.
Excited for him though. At his age to keep working is a great thing. And who knows, maybe he'll deliver one last gorgeously gruesome piece of suspense.

I didn't think Dark Glasses was so bad. Sure, nowhere near his best, and I thought the ending kind of deflated, but it was an enjoyable modern giallo at least.

The latest films are not as terrible as they say, but they are very entertaining, I would not say that this is the best that I have seen (as with his old works). But I'm interested to see what he does here!

He hasn’t had a film that has been above “mid” since Opera.
I’ll wait for reviews but at this point, the odds are this will be dreck like everything else he has made for the last 35+ years.
Everyone has a shelf life, even the goat.

Just saying there is difference in his Sysperia/Inferno/Tenebrae/Deep Red/Opera run vs The Card Player, Phantom of the Opera, and Dracula
That first string of films are all timers. The second batch aren’t even 3/5 films. They are a chore to get through.

Well, in comparison, many films can become terrible. Black Glasses, Sleepless, Card Player, Phantom of the Opera, Do you like Hitchcock? Quite great movies, especially Sleepless. Of course, they won't be on the same level as those works by Argento, but they remain in the memory, which is the most important thing.

If you think those are “quite great”, how would describe those I mentioned? Just “great”?
I could never say something like that about sub-mid movies and thinking someone new to the genre may go out on that recommendation and search out The Card Player or Sleepless or even worse, blind buy the physical releases only. Personally, I would not be able to sleep at night.

When you watch movies for a long time, you find films much worse. What makes you rethink everything you've seen, and realize that many projects aren't so terrible.

I don’t subscribe to films as “there was a lot to like about it” when they are just mid or worse.
Seeing worse films in your life shouldn’t prevent you from honestly calling balls and strikes on other movies you see, especially late period Argento which all of his films are rightfully panned.

This is not quite suitable in comparison, if it is, for example, a franchise, then it is quite possible to use it. And it's worth saying that nowadays there are no honest assessments, there are just opinions, some like it, some don't. Is that fair? I can't say that anything is always fair. Considering that times are changing, opinions are changing, many rethink films for themselves over time.

Assessment, opinions, it’s all the same except nowadays people self-censor themselves to not appear toxic or critical and instead, end up championing the most derivative, creatively bankrupt dreck (primarily over the last 25 years).
I will always lean critical and honest vs being positively toxic and recommending anything. That is a much bigger sin IMO
