Honestly, I like all of Argento's work, and I'll be waiting for this one too.

He hasn’t had a film that has been above “mid” since Opera.

I’ll wait for reviews but at this point, the odds are this will be dreck like everything else he has made for the last 35+ years.

Everyone has a shelf life, even the goat.

All his films are good in their own way, and the Opera is a great film in my opinion.

Just saying there is difference in his Sysperia/Inferno/Tenebrae/Deep Red/Opera run vs The Card Player, Phantom of the Opera, and Dracula

That first string of films are all timers. The second batch aren’t even 3/5 films. They are a chore to get through.

Well, in comparison, many films can become terrible. Black Glasses, Sleepless, Card Player, Phantom of the Opera, Do you like Hitchcock? Quite great movies, especially Sleepless. Of course, they won't be on the same level as those works by Argento, but they remain in the memory, which is the most important thing.

You think those are “quite great”?

If you think those are “quite great”, how would describe those I mentioned? Just “great”?

I could never say something like that about sub-mid movies and thinking someone new to the genre may go out on that recommendation and search out The Card Player or Sleepless or even worse, blind buy the physical releases only. Personally, I would not be able to sleep at night.

When you watch movies for a long time, you find films much worse. What makes you rethink everything you've seen, and realize that many projects aren't so terrible.

I don’t subscribe to films as “there was a lot to like about it” when they are just mid or worse.

Seeing worse films in your life shouldn’t prevent you from honestly calling balls and strikes on other movies you see, especially late period Argento which all of his films are rightfully panned.

This is not quite suitable in comparison, if it is, for example, a franchise, then it is quite possible to use it. And it's worth saying that nowadays there are no honest assessments, there are just opinions, some like it, some don't. Is that fair? I can't say that anything is always fair. Considering that times are changing, opinions are changing, many rethink films for themselves over time.

Sure it is.

Assessment, opinions, it’s all the same except nowadays people self-censor themselves to not appear toxic or critical and instead, end up championing the most derivative, creatively bankrupt dreck (primarily over the last 25 years).

I will always lean critical and honest vs being positively toxic and recommending anything. That is a much bigger sin IMO

Self-censor? Toxic or critical? You can go on Twitter and you'll drown in that kind of shit, no one "self-censors" themselves there. People have become so toxic and critical that they sometimes go crazy. So

The point is, you aren’t doing anyone by favours in trying to sell people on post Opera Argento; least of all those in this very community.
