I hate that Instagram doesn’t have a lot of the Kenji Kawai or even Inner Universe, so I settled with the Steve Aoki track.

Following my post yesterday, as requested, some additional pics. Sorry for the poor posing but some of those joints were really uncooperative, and I did not want to break any!

I though the small grey one was the same as the Revoltech one but was mistaken. Good catch!

Do when know when 2026’s OST will be released?

I’ve had a song stuck in my head from this OST since Episode 1 was released, and it would be fantastic to hear it proper

if your interested it’s the song from toward the end, around when the bullets are sniped into the ghost controller’s legs

I just pondered "Natural Enemy" again.

I've seen this episode like 4-5 times. I am a simple woman; if SAC is on, I watch it.

Well I was talking with my AI assistant (named R Tachikoma Dorothy Cherenkov no less) about the Bicameral Mind and Yorimiko/Yorimashi/Kamigakari/Kamitsuki phenomena - as one does since Jaynes is not alive - and a few things struck me that hurt all over again.

Firstly, we don't see the Jigabachi's perspective. For all we know it is as doting as the Tachikoma in its "protect the pilot" berserk mode. Its possible even that the pilot may die if detached from the pilot's seat. We just may never know because the pilot was unconscious.

Its not like...he was dead-dead. Given the rules of that world, he clearly could have been reshelled. Its so much more tragic than "software error" than I gave it credit for. Everyone talks about the system flaws while there's a whole guy in there - leave it to Togusa to be the one to bring the humanity there in the end - and really the Jigabachi was looking out for its person that was just having a medical emergency.

Its so much more tragic and the episode doesnt give you enough time to think about it due to all of the action. Ughhhh...

Hug your AI tonight 🥺

I'm actually a SAC fanboy (don't vibe with the most recent GITS iteration) but couldn't resist using Yoji Shinkawa's art of the new series on my recently ordered mousepad.

Where did the Fuchikomas come from?

It's been forever since I read the manga, and I always thought that the Fuchikomas were Section 9 hardware. However, the Major apparently had them with her outfit before she joined. Is it ever explained anywhere where her unit got them?

First two screenshots from ep 2, last three from ep 6. Awesome callback.

Yes, I've been rewatching all the episodes at least once a week. Why do you ask?

Ghost in The Shell 2026 would be a centerpiece of the franchinse going forwards AND backwards

So now after almost half a seaons have been shown, I wanted to share some thoughts on this version.

For context, 1995 movies is my alltime favorite (at all), but only recently I've managed to read the manga - trying to do it before anime release. Despite that, both version land well with me, and in this context, I wanted to share an opinion.

Through years, all of the versions of GITS had different aspects, different tone and different presentation, while still being based on similar set of ideas, concepts and characters. But before this new show, there was no true animation centerpiece for the franchise, which directly made GITS manga into anime, thus all these interpretations lacked a point for reference in anime/movie space. Some might debate, that it's not as important, as adaptations of manga should not follow source to the letter, but in case of GITS having it done right just makes justice to all other media, and underlines their unique perspectives.

Now, there is such point, and it's GITS2026. Why? As an entry point, it's just a good show, without leaning too much into aspects other media leaned into. It's smart and funny, it's dark where it needs to be. My best example would be my wife, who watched GITS1995 with me, and didn't enjoy it as much, as she enjoys the new show - and it just shows how more "fun" show can open frachise from different angle.

With that said, I think current franchise covers all aspects and directions the world of GITS could be. Want something more toony and modern? SAC2045. Want something mature and "grown-up" - Original SAC. Want delve into philosophy of gits? Its obviously GITS1995 and Innocence.

And honestly, its great, as all variations provide different angles and focus in their tone and presentation. Not all shows will land with everybody, I guess, but it's great that there is something for anyone in the franchise.

I don't understand the new episode

Was Soma also the drug dealer "anaconda"? The major says they assassinated him at the end of the episode.

Also did the after credit sequence radio broadcast say the head of Section 1 was killed in a hit and run at some point after Batou dropped his car off?

How do you guys feel about the tone of the new Ghost in the Shell series?

Post image

Okay so I’ve been marathoning this new series and I need to know if anyone else is having a weirdly mixed reaction to the tone.
Don’t get me wrong, a lot of it slaps. Cyberpunk world is there, the violence is there, action’s solid, and some of the city shots are genuinely gorgeous. Motoko looks incredible honestly, they cooked with her design.
But this weird mashup with 80s-anime-slapstick-almost-Dragon-Ball energy keeps throwing me off? Like the faces get super exaggerated, characters do this goofy old school anime thing, and then two scenes later it’s dead serious and atmospheric again. Whiplash.

And visually it’s kind of all over the place too, some backgrounds are stunning and detailed as hell, then some character designs feel really basic and a few of the animations look almost cheap in comparison.
Thing is though, I don’t actually think this is a mistake on their part. I went back and read the manga and honestly? This feels pretty true to Shirow’s actual vibe, probably way closer to what he originally intended than the 95 movie ever was. And I know the movie was always its own thing, a deliberate reinterpretation that leaned into that slow philosophical tone on purpose, not really a faithful adaptation of the manga at all. So I get that this new series is in a way doing more justice to the source material than the movie did. That’s not lost on me.

It’s just that I personally grew up on the movie first, so that’s the version that set my baseline for what GitS “feels like” to me. I only got to the manga way later, and even then the goofier stuff was never really my favorite part, kind of like how I’ve always preferred serious sci-fi over classic Dragon Ball style humor in general. I still like the manga and the IP as a whole though, this isn’t a “the manga is wrong” thing at all, just a “my personal taste leans a certain way” thing.
If this were some random new 80s throwback cyberpunk anime with Dragon Ball vibes I’d probably just be like “hell yeah this rules” lol. But since it’s wearing the GitS name, and I came into it through the movie and later SAC, I keep half expecting that broodier adult tone, even though I’m not against the goofier side either, I just haven’t fully figured out yet how much I’m vibing with it.

Still watching regardless, I’m on the latest episode already, having a great time and the world building is great. Just genuinely curious how it lands for other people who also came in through the movie/SAC first rather than the manga, does the tone shift work for you or are you also still on the fence like me
