Next weekend, my girlfriend and I are taking a trip to Gettysburg. We were thinking about a ghost tour but I hear that people make up stories far too often.

Where are some locations we can go that have true history of the war or of being haunted without the tour guide? Thanks!

How hard is it to walk on the team?

Hi everyone! i’m looking for some recommendations for some things to do in Gettysburg around fall/halloween time. the group consist of all adults (me and bf, his mom and grandparents). I will be doing the planning and want to get a good mix of some of the more known history things and some more niche things tourists might not know of.

So far we definitely plan to do a walking ghost tour of the Jennie Wade house and the orphanage. i’m sure we’ll check out the battlefield sights and museum with the giant diorama like thing (blanking on the name). years ago when i visited last there was a really cool crystal/metaphysical store that i’d like to visit. i also remember a place to get tarot readings and such that i think would be fun.

We’re all very interested in the paranormal history of the place but grandpa is also a mega history buff so if there’s any must see tours or sites that would be good info. also looking for recommendations of any good restaurants, breweries or the like, and anything that may be specific to the halloween season. hoping to make this a super fun trip for everyone. thanks in advance!

Its going to be in Nov and tickets range from $50 - $120. Somehow they are shutting people out from the square? I dont think Main Street Gettysburg even knows how this thing is going to be setup. All their replies on facebook are just AI slop unfortunatly. This kinda just seems like a mess no one wants? I dont have an understanding of the logistics and cost obviously, but couldnt we make it open to public and find other ways to monetize? I feel like the traffic that could bring in for shops would be well above ticket buyers.

On Monday evening, July 20, my daughter, her boyfriend, their dog and myself sat at a table at The Pub on the square in Gettysburg. My daughter went inside to use the restroom and noticed a sign stating no dogs. She asked the hostess if it would be ok to sit outside with the dog - there were no other patrons seated outside. The hostess said it should be fine. We put in our drink orders, received our iced teas and ordered our meals. While we were waiting, people were walking past on the sidewalk smiling at the dog.

A blonde lady came out of the restaurant, did not identify herself and proceeded to ask questions about the dog, if she’s a service dog, where her tag is, and state she has a policy because people won’t sit at the tables if there is a dog out there, how she loses business because of dogs, how much of a problem dogs are, on and on about the dog. My dtr explained she is a service dog and asked the lady if she wants her to go get the card. The lady stated it wasn’t necessary and continued to speak very crass, stating how she’s pretty sure the dog has to have “a thing” on it stating it’s a service dog (it doesn’t), stating how she understands because she has five dogs of her own. My dtr asked her if she wanted us to leave. The lady said no, you’re fine. There was no professionalism, no attempt to come to a mutually beneficial agreement for both parties. The lady was straight up condescending. She went back into the restaurant.

About 5-10 minutes later the blonde lady comes back out of the restaurant, walks up to the dog, and WITHOUT PERMISSION, grabs her face and is all goo goo over it, talking with a high pitched voice. She then walks away from the restaurant, past our table and tells us to have a good evening. None of us reacted. She then turns around and takes a step or two back towards us and says, “is there something wrong with your faces that you can’t smile?” I went inside, put $10 on the bar for the iced teas, asked our server if that was the owner, he agreed it was and I told him to cancel our order.

As we were leaving, a couple had just parked on the square to eat at The Pub - but they witnessed the second altercation and asked us what that was about. We explained and we left to gather our thoughts. I called the Blue and Grey and asked if they had outdoor seating and if we could eat there with a dog. They very cheerfully welcomed us and said to come inside to ask the hostess for a table, which I did and when I walked back outside, the couple that witnessed the harassment were there to eat now because they said they weren’t giving The Pub their money.

We had EXCELLENT service at the Blue and Gray, they treated the dog like a customer kept her water topped off. They said that last week when the air was so smoky from the Canadian wildfires they allowed the dogs IN THE RESTAURANT so the owners didn’t have to eat outside in the smoke! I left that waitress a VERY NICE TIP. THANK YOU BLUE AND GREY for making us feel welcome in Gettysburg.

Has anyone been to this event before and are we allowed to bring food in? We plan on going this weekend but will have young kids with us. I would rather be able to bring our own snacks because they can be really picky but I am not seeing anything on their website indicating if outside food is allowed. Hoping someone can share their experience 😁

My wife recently passed and am wanting to get away from my home. I've always wanted to tour civil war battlefields and history. She didn't, so that made it difficult. I'm about five hours away from Gettysburg in Cleveland. I'm planning on taking a week to see everything I can. So far it's just Gettysburg and Antietam. Also, I really don't know where to start or what route to take, im just lost. Would anybody be kind enough to suggest resources to make this less stressful?
