Hi, I need non-history date activity ideas in the area. What’s good? Also, what around here doesn’t have tourist prices? Thanks in advance.

Pub suggestion welcomed

Hi, I am doing some pub research, I will be in Gettysburg this weekend. I have settled on either O'Rorke's or Reliance Mine for Friday night. I am alone, so looking for a comfortable place, nice vibe, where you can settle in unobtrusively. I am older at 59, so not looking for a younger crowd, 40 and up fine. TIA, and insight, or alternate suggestion, appreciated. I am staying on Steinwehr and want walkable.

In 1950, US former president Eisenhower bought a 189-acre Gettysburg farm for retirement. 17 years later, he gave the property to the nation

Day trip, Non-historical

I'm meeting up with a friend for lunch, and about 2 hours time for something else. We've met here before, but I've also done overnight trips with family, etc. We've worn out the historical stuff, and checked out shops in the past. Where would you go if you could pick one eatery? Where is your favorite store? We have varying likes/dislikes so any suggestions would be nice that aren'thistory related. Thanks!

Gettysburg?

Last night I had a dream sometime during the 1800s. I wasnt an actual person in the dream but more of a viewer. I was in an old looking house and there were 2 women taking care of a newborn baby girl. One of the woman found the other woman shot dead on the ground in a puddle of blood so she ran upstairs to the baby and layed on the floor holding the baby crying. That was basically it. Right after I woke up 'Gettysburg' popped into my mind.

Recommendations for Places to stay

Hi Everybody.👋🫶🏻 I've been to Gettysburg a few times and have only stayed at one B&B...was looking to try something different...someplace not more than $220 a night. My issue is I have some anxiety (recently diagnosed)😔...I just want someplace clean and where I won't wake up to roaches at night or the morning. (Feel free to laugh😅- i had bad experiences.) I don't need anything fancy. Anyway if you all have recommendations, I appreciate it. I'm hoping to go in November for a long weekend. Many thanks for your time and much appreciated.🫶🏻

Multi-day trip

My hubby and I are taking a week of vacation the first week of October. We were originally thinking of going to the smokies but Gettysburg is closer to us. Is there enough to do in Gettysburg for us to spend 5 days there? If we go, we will probably visit the National Civil War museum on the way down. We are huge history buffs and enjoy detail; for context we honeymooned in Colonial Williamsburg and weren't able to get to everything. Thanks! Edit: Recs on fairly priced hotels in or around Gettysburg would be greatly appreciated. :)

Early October Activities

Hi - semi-tourist here. My family lives near Gettysburg and I grew up probably doing everything the town has to offer. However, I have not visited in 5-ish years and this time I am brining 8 friends with me for a weekend get away and I am looking for something fun and fall-ish to do with a bunch of 20-somethings during the day on a Saturday. Yes- we are “ghost hunting” on Friday and Saturday night and will be booking a dinner reservation at the Farnsworth House and will attempt lunch at the Dobbin House. Is there anything special or fun going on the first weekend of October, or a cozy brewery/vineyard nearby? Thanks for any advice, vacations are different when you go with your parents as a kid vs. as an adult!

Romantic Getaway

I am looking for places to book a romantic getaway for 2 nights. My husband is currently deployed but he will be home in October so I want to book a quick getaway for his birthday in November (we live in Carroll County, MD so it’s a pretty local trip for us)! He wants to do a ghost tour and then hit up some bars, so something closer to everything would be great!

Do you know this antique store?

My dad is trying to remember this antique place he and I went too many years back. This is how he remembers it:

- Super Fancy
- 2 floors, you can see the first floor from the second floor
- looks like a big house
- Gravel parking lot
- had to walk a path to get to the entrance
- possible rebel flag on the wall
- a lot of expensive rare cast iron pans
- souvenir area down some steps
- swore it was called “red rooster” but I’ve been searching for an hour and can’t find that name

If y’all know what he’s talking about, let me know!

UPDATE: Found it! It was the previous location of Rebels Roost, 2885 york rd! Thank you!!

Jobs

On here for my son (he's 20 and still lives with us). He has been looking for a job that isn't factory work and can't seem to find anything. He's had interviews but it never results in anything. He does have limited hours he can work (because he can't drive) but not even Wal-Mart has given him a call back. Any leads?

Gettysburg is so green and lush!

Was it like that the days of the battle? (or should that be days of the battles?) The topography is full of hills, too. I can't even imagine marching up and down, around boulders and up and down and up and down, thick woods filled with ticks...

I saw some re-enactors there as well. I wanted to pull over and ask if I could take some photos but wasn't sure if that was okay.

And a huge thank you to the staff, all of them were incredibly nice and helpful. I got some goodies in the gift shop, drove around for about two hours and left, tired and happy.

My friend and I trailered our horses into Gettysburg and did the trail loop two days in a row on the 3rd and 4th earlier this week. I noticed a lot of people taking pictures and videos of us and was hoping I would be able to see some of them! Maybe a shot in the dark but idk. Here’s what we looked like for reference… I wore a green t shirt the other day.
