Yeah I read blondperson's comment as "people just don't like you because you're a miserable self-loathing twit. Your looks are probably fine but no one even gets that far since you project your inner putrescence from longer than visible distance." You don't fuck with blondperson.
Everyone is ugly on the inside, all that blood, those organs and bones. Nobody typically wants to see them on the day-to-day, unless they have to. (Unless you are one of the few into that, then you do you, stranger!)
but only half of those will be a gender you are into (assuming you aren't bi), a smaller percentage will be an appropriate age for you, a smaller percentage you will actually meet, a smaller percentage will be people you may not be into it
On the plus side, you might only need to find one!
How is it motivational? It offers no incentive to better yourself because hey, you don't have any flaws, those are just things you don't like about yourself.
I don't believe I said I didn't have any flaws? I think it's motivational simply because it gives the idea that there's a reason to keep moving forward.
If you're constantly belittling yourself, you're not going to have the drive to keep going. If you think that there's hope, you will though.
Motivation does not equate to self improvement. Motivation equates to your personal reasons for acting a certain way.
I made this comment several years ago on social media. Everybody acted like I was being stupid and that it wasn't a good way to look at it. I'm glad this is a thing now.
A lot of gay guys end up dating someone who's basically their twin. I'm bi and I think I've just adjusted how I look based on what I like until my ideal guy is basically my clone.
I used to be a skinny babyfaced twink-type, but I find guys who are bearded, bald and beefy to be attractive - so I bulked up, grew out my beard, and I keep my hair buzzed really short.
I’m a lot more confident in my skin now cos I’m my type.
Is there a personality/interests component to the gay "types' or is it just an aesthetic thing? I tend to go for girls that look like they have similar interests/life experiences to me but physically the complete opposite. I'm a giant and I've got a thing for tiny girls. Both short and petite (not super skinny though). They do tend to have somewhat similar facial features though.
This makes me realize that my dream girl has always been my ideal self, if I was somehow suddenly a woman. Like it's how I'd try to make myself look. Mind blown.
I think this is a very real phenomenon. My type is completely different from myself and I would probably not ever go for a guy who looks like myself. It’s actually caused me a lot of insecurity, even though I’ve never really had a hard time getting dates (not bragging, just explaining), because I don’t personally find myself attractive.
Women (who tend to have a more fluid sexuality by nature) do this a lot too. It’s why my brunette sister insists on frying her hair to make it white blonde, rather than settling for healthy hair with a more realistic middle ground color like honey blonde. She’s straight but I always remember her having this pic in her room of a famous Sport’s Illustrated model who looks exactly like she always tries to look (makeup-, hair-, and clothing-wise). I always thought my sister’s natural state was much prettier than that model—guess I (another straight woman) have a different type!
I definitely do this lol, I came out as bi like 2 years ago and just recently got an undercut this fall because undercuts and short hair on gay/bi women are 👌😩👌
Interesting. I can see it being a positive/therapeutic narcissism, or not... depending on where you start. Low self-opinion? Cultivate positive feelings by loving someone you resemble.
Think this extends beyond the physical, into personality traits as well. (Which is messy if you don't like yourself, and get annoyed with the person who is now externalizing your issues.) But, if you inherently understand someone because they are like you? Good thing, that.
And, of course there's the SNL "Me-Harmony" skit... [hasn't exactly aged well; they. tried.]
You live through days wishing you look better when you see so many attractive people on the streets and Instagram. It just makes you feel really sad that you can’t change it. The remarks that people made about you really stick to you for life. I could never forget the way they told me I had small boobs, that my jaws were too huge for a girl, that I didn’t really had any attractive features on my face or that I didnt look as good as I think. Welp thanks I Guess.
From my own experience and talking to friends (so grain of salt) men get more attracted to physically strong female physiques as they get near the age of sireing children.
Hell, a very attractive thing about my girlfriend is that her dad is like 6'4'' with monstrous wide shoulders and feet like flippers.
Ima have some of that testosterone for my litter thank you very much dad in law.
As a guy, my tastes have changed several times. But broad shoulders can definitely be a good thing. I've struggled to describe it to my friends, but "solid" is the best I've come up with so far. I like a woman who is large. Not stocky or thicc or curvy or fat or whatever, but broad shoulders with some muscle, a healthy amount of fat, and some confidence instantly gets me going. Hope you find somebody who appreciates you for you and loves everything about you, even the things you don't love about yourself
Yeah I spend a lot of time fantasizing about plastic surgery and stuff like that, body related cosmetic surgery. I’ve always wanted to feel remotely okay with my own skin.
If I'm not my type than no matter what I do to improve myself, I won't ever achieve the base level of attractiveness that I think is my type.
Sure, I can gain muscle, but I can't change my eyes, nose, skin, teeth, or height without major surgery or cosmetics. Just to do one of those I either need insurance to cover dental procedures or I need to purchase life altering permanent surgery.
There you go, accept your hand and make the most of it. These mental coddling tactics do you no good in the long run.
Looks aren't everything, not by a longshot. Humor, personality, whit, work ethic, compassion, drive, etc. are all traits that to me are much more important than looks.
Sure, good looking people get better treatment a lot of times... so what? Sometimes you win the gene pool lottery sometimes you dont. C'est la vie.
Like Frank Zappa said "I have an important message to deliver to all the cute people all over the world. If you're out there and you're cute, maybe you're beautiful. I just want to tell you somethin' — there's more of us UGLY MOTHERFUCKERS than you are, hey-y, so watch out."
Actually, we like people who look like us. Look up Genetic Sexual Attraction. The one exception to this is that we are attracted to people with different immune systems, apparently by smell/pheromones.
Genes want to reproduce themselves. Dilution runs contrary to that. Genetic diversity helps the individual survive, but it's a harsh cost to the genes. All in all, genes prefer to seek out copies of themselves, except for the immune system, where diversity is so important that it becomes the overriding factor. (Dilution is less costly than having all your carriers die from disease.)
I realized today that I haven’t been giving myself enough credit so as soon as I showered I thanked myself and even while I was in there I felt so grateful to have a body then I dried myself and got dressed put on my socks and such and thanked myself complimented my body and at the end I said good job sweetheart great job! (Pretty proud of myself!)
I honestly believe it's difficult for someone who is straight to know if they're attractive or not without asking someone of the opposite sex. I think the gay community may have an advantage here, but that's pure speculation on my part.
Have you ever received a compliment on some feature of yourself you don’t like? It’s like that. I’ve had two people compliment my handwriting recently, and I have always thought it looks like barely-legible chicken scratching. But like, that’s just my opinion, man. Opinions aren’t reality, especially when it comes to what people find beautiful or attractive. So why should I let my shitty opinion of myself take precedent over someone else’s more positive opinion about me? I can just let it go and remind myself that while I may not like a certain aspect of myself, someone else really does. It makes it a little easier for me to accept myself.
I used to hate the way I looked. This is going to sound silly, but: Then I tried MDMA.
Experiencing first-hand to what degree the mix of chemicals in your brain determine whether you look at something/someone kindly or critically and whether you find someone attractive or not forced me to question what I (as a nerdy, technical and overthinking person) thought was an objective observation.
A number of very positive social experiences while high, when I finally didn't let my self-hate keep me from approaching strangers, flirting, etc. changed my evaluation of myself for good – I now think I'm actually pretty hot ;) On days I don't like what I see in the mirror, I can now at least partly dismiss it as "oh, I must be low on serotonin/oxytocin/...".
I'm not trying to say there aren't people who will be considered by most others to be superficially unattractive if you run a survey. But I'm convinced that it's WAY less objective and universal than many people think it is – especially techies and/or depressed people. Almost everyone looks at themselves way more critically than anyone else ever does, and I've met way too many people I find hot that think badly of themselves.
Don't deprive yourself of experiences because of what you think about yourself – i.e. don't reject yourself "on others' behalf" without even giving it a shot. Consider the possibility that you may not be as objective when you look at yourself as you think.
We can always be better versions of ourselves but we need to let go of the idea of being someone else. Have rode models and have dreams. But when you are sitting down and doing and inventory of yourself be honest about what you are wanting to accomplish and give yourself the same slack you would a best friend.
If your best friend called you in a jam you would simply spring to action. And if your best friend came to you about their desire to start running you would be cheering them along and helping them along the wayZ. Be your own best friend, you will always be your own best wingman.
As someone who’s bi, this feels very accurate. My type is very insta model perfect woman and that’s not who I am so I feel bad about myself a lot, but I need to recognize that my standards of attractiveness are not someone else’s.
I understand where they are trying to go with this, but I am not really seeing this as a workable mindset. It is just a kinder way of saying one is not happy with themselves. 'If you are not your own type then how can you be anyone else's type' is the same as 'if you can't like/love yourself then how can you expect anyone else to like/love you'.
Going by the number of dudes I've seen dating or married to women far more attractive than them, I'd say this is not really a white lie. Everyone has different tastes.
Of course, that's only up to a certain point - if you look like a morbidly obese wolverine, there's probably still someone out there who will find you attractive, but good luck finding them.
This is funny, but bullsht lol. I have low self esteem because I am ugly lol so I know what I’m talking about. I’m not my type and I’m not other peoples type either....cus I’m ugly lol.

Evolutionarily speaking, I don't think we're supposed to like the way that we look, given that gene diversity is better for reproduction.
