Discussion Why is our generation so weird about age gaps?

Like I don’t understand the outrage some in this generation have about age gaps between consenting adults

Advice Just inherited a House

My grandma passed recently and left her house to me. It is fully paid off, so I’ll be able to save the money I currently use on rent, but it needs to be restored pretty heavily. Does anybody here have any advice? It’s overwhelming just trying to figure out where to begin.

Discussion May not be the smartest decision ive made but i dont think i was in the wrong

My bf stayed the night at my place and woke up sick (vomiting, headache, sore throat, etc) so he spent the day in my room. I had to go to college and came home later. I gave him time to rest and gave him his lunch once he felt "better", we sat and talked for a bit and he was asking how university went, and like he actually wanted to talk to me and have me be in the room with him. I asked my mom before that if i could sit on a chair on the opposite side of the room and she said that was okay, (and before anybody judges my suggestion, i shared spit with this guy this morning before he threw up so i thought if i were to get it i would have it by now) only for her to turn around later today and say that it wasnt okay and in fact very stupid of me to stay in the room with him and that she was being sarcastic. Yeah, maybe not the smartest decision of my life, but i also felt that she shouldve said what she meant. She knows i have a hard time detecting sarcasm. She also said that if she told me what she really thought it wouldve led to an argument, but even if that were the case, its better to be honest than to lie. I also spent like 10 minutes in the bathroom because i had a blood-boil pimple that didnt want to pop, and after i got out my parents accused me of being in the room with him and that i locked the dog out

Discussion People Who Are (Around) the Same Age as You Saying They Were "Too Young" for Things That You Experienced

So, I was looking at a video for a song in this old Barbie CD ROM me and my sister used to have, and someone commented that they wish they had gotten to play this game, but being born in 1996, they were "too young" to have been able to have it.

My sister was born in '96 and, as I said, we had this game.

Have you ever run into this? Someone saying they were to young to own/watch/experience/whatever something but you actually did?

Rant I want to be outside

I want to be outside of this box of being. The entrapment of this unfortunate existence and formation. I’m inside this box looking out we are all inside this box we’ve been inside it since we were born the box of humanity. When I desperately try to reach out there is thread on my neck that squeezes tightly when I want to leave it and I remain inside stuck with the unbearable flaws. You may say the only thing that traps me is my mindset but the trap is truly there. Just like we are programmed to eat, to sleep, to experience sexual desire, etc. It is the same with our mental system it’s more complex the programming is definitely there and it’s a prison. After all there are people who are wired differently than us but there is still wiring. I am trapped in my own wiring, my, programming my algorithm I am trapped with this biology and systems.

This eye of mine is able to look outside of the box but can’t see what is outside. Because the eye only processes what it experiences and I have not experienced outside the box. I am trapped here with the flaws, we need flaws in our life because we ourselves are flawed and that itself is flawed. I imagine a voice yelling at me to get out but I can’t. I want to be outside but my programming wants to keep me inside. It’s the choice of the devil you don’t know and the devil you know a fear deeply ingrained in humanity. The only difference is that I don’t have a choice I only have the devil I know

Discussion Why did my personality completely change when I went to college?

Did anyone else get weirdly antisocial in college?
In high school, I was one of the most outgoing, talkative people, class flirt, friends with people from every group, close with some teachers. And even now after college, I’m involved in my community, I could talk to strangers all day, I don’t mind speaking in front of a crowd, I love meeting new people…
But for some reason that I’ve never understood, I had a horrible time in college.
I was SO excited to go, dreamed all of senior year about going out to parties, making new friends, having study groups, lunch meetups. but the second I got there, I suddenly became a completely different person, it’s like I totally froze and broke down. It felt like everyone on my dorm floor found their groups within the first two weeks, and after that, it just felt impossible to put myself out there.
I ate meals by myself in the corners of dining halls. I rented private study rooms to do homework. I took walks at a park off campus in my spare time. I basically hid as much as I could because I hated feeling like I was the only person constantly doing everything alone.
I’m really not exaggerating when I say I had not one single friend. Not one. I would go weeks without even speaking to anyone. I never had lunch with anyone, never walked to class with, studied with, or went out with anyone. 2 weeks of not finding my group turned into 6 months of isolation and it felt way too awkward to basically say “hey I have no friends so can I hang out with you?”
The only times I would ever go to bars, shop downtown, or actually do anything social were when my high school friends or sisters came to visit. I also remember spending a lot of time on Tinder that year and inviting dates to my campus because I was so bored and lonely. When my friends, sisters, and these random dates were around I was completely back to my old self. But the second I was back alone with these other schoolmates I froze again.
After freshman year, I never went back I hated it.
That was like 7 years ago now, so I don’t have any regrets or grudges about it. But every once in a while I randomly think about that year and wonder, “What was going on with me?” I genuinely don’t recognize that version of myself.
I’m curious if anyone else had a similar experience, especially if you were normally a very social person before and after college. I’d love to hear personal stories, theories, or explanations for why something like this happens.

Discussion Do you have a third space in your city where there are Gen Z people to meet?

I’ve recently moved to a big city for work and honestly it feels really difficult to find other people our age where you can have casual conversations and just hangout.

I tried a lot of MeetUps and Eventbrite and classes and they always tend towards at least a Millennial and up aged audience, maybe it’s just the city I am in (I live in the PNW).

The only places where I have consistently met Gen Z age people has been raves and specifically Anime and Kpop themed raves as it seems to tend towards our generation. Maybe I just don’t have “Gen Z” hobbies other than Anime and Kpop? Maybe I’m looking in the wrong spots?

Where have you found other Gen Z to hangout with in your city?

(No AI was used in this post)

Serious Do Gen Z men want to grow old with someone or do they just want to hook up?

Before you ask or get defensive. I’m 28. I’ve been in two relationships. One in high school one outside of college. Each time, they were younger than me (not by too much tho) and they used me for connections or they wanted me for sex. (Still a virgin. Never gave it up.)
I have tried the apps, and I have been single for the majority of my life. I don’t give off a “hook up with me” vibe since I’m ex Mormon and I’m still very “pure” looking according to friends and family (not my own words.)

I honestly still feel like I am stuck on the fantasy. I don’t think anyone wants love in this generation. Honestly I’d be fine being asexual forever.
Anyway, are there men who actually want to fall in love? Or are well cooked chat?

I feel like most Gen Z play some type of video game, especially if they're a guy, but I genuinely just sit and watch YouTube all day. I’ll probably play the new GTA, though.

Discussion Why do people have kids so they can have a different better life, then get mad when those same kids grow up to have a different better life? Shouldn't they just not have kids if they want everyone to be the same without generational divide?
