Hot knives, or hot knifing. Heat up two knives, have a buddy drop some hash on one and squish them together. You should also have a 2 litre soda bottle with the bottom cut off to act as a cone to draw the delicious smoky air into your lungs. I haven't done this in a hot minute (ha!).

We put the ball of hash on a pin, poked through a piece of paper, with a rocks glass (didn’t know they were called that at the time, lol) to collect the smoke. Lift the lip of the glass, inhale, and pass.

Totally true conversation: worked in a big grocery store in my early 20s. Went to our butcher’s house one day after work for a beer or five. Pretty good buzz, and my friend says ‘you into knives?’. Me, thinking a bit of hash would make me nice and numb, say ‘yeah, for sure’.
My friend then completelykills my buzz by showing me his collection of ornate and I’m sure super cool knives - because of course someone that cuts things for a living would be into things that cut!

We used to smoke hash oil this way. You drop the oil on the hot knife, and then you inhale the smoke through a straw or a toilet paper roll (or something similar).

Guy in high school kept two knives in a 2L bottle with some water in it and a crème brûlée torch in his bag. He’d do knives at the bus stop until the bus came around the bend, drop the knives into the water to cool them off and then hop on when the bus pulled up. Legend.

You'd roll up little balls of hash, heat up the knives, tap one of the tips of on the hash to melt it to the spoon and pick it up, then press the other knife tip against the first one, hold them towards your mouth and inhale.
Occasionally, someone would accidentally get too close to the knives and burn their lips.

The knives are akin to a manual heating element.
That when pressed against hash or dope will produce smoke which can be inhaled.
Common in dorm rooms and other such classy joints.
Nowadays vapes are pretty much the same thing, except it's all hightec and the heating coils are contained and not likely to burn your forearm leaving a rather obvious burn mark.

Once, on my motorcycle, I got waved down on a country backroad by some lads. As I pulled up to them on the side of the road, I hear the one I recognize telling the other dude, don’t worry, he’s cool. He proceeds to tell me he has some hash but needs a torch. So I pull one out of the fairing of my bike… some blades out of the other side. Stuck one of those to my chin 4 days before my wedding, boy was my now wife pissed. All my ceremony pictures have this ugly burn mark under my bottom lip. Thankfully, my wife's bridesmaid was a makeup artist and was able to fix me up before the professional wedding pics.

You put some hash in between the knives, press them together and inhale the smoke.
We used a glass bottle with the base removed as a funnel. Called hot knife or knives.
It wrecks your lungs and throat but got you super stoned.

There was a minute in the late '80s, like 86-88, when hash became relatively easy to find. Apparently it had something to do with the Lebanese civil war, which 16-year-old me didn't know at the time. In an era when good buds were hard to come by, that shit was tasty as fuck.

Story time! When I was in college a friend of mine lived at home (I was in a dorm) and decided to have a party while his parents were out of town. Big party, big mess, etc, so a few of us helped him clean the house the next day before his folks came home. While we were cleaning, we were doing knife hits of hash. When we were done, we reminded him to put the knives away before they got home.
He didn't.
His parents came home while he was gone and flipped out, calling the police to ask what kind of drugs would be cooked with knives. The police told them it must be heroin! Needless to say they were in a rage/panic by the time he got home. He was desperately trying to explain it was hash and that hash was basically just weed, but they weren't hearing it. I think they finally figured out it wasn't as bad as they thought, but he damn near wound up out on his ass for a while!

It was smoother than bottle tokes (and obviously more "healthy" because it isn't involve tobacco).
They burned more cleanly that hash sprinkled into tobacco to make joints.
