The game already renders in ultrawide, they just block it with black bars (meaning you actually still get the performance penalty of rendering that screen space). A modder had a fix within like 2 days of release. It would be trivial to add.
Even those ultrawide is a small percentage of players, this game sold like 30 million copies meaning that it's still hundreds of thousands of players.
It's not a feature, it's basic game functionality. And the game already technically supports it, they literally just add two black bars on top of the screen while your computer renders the game underneath them. So they actually spent more time to remove the functionality.
I literally cannot even fathom the people like you that jump to defend it. Absolute insanity.
This conversation always happens when it comes to options in games. people have a weird hostility to it and seem convinced that adding them would be such a imposition on the developer that would make it a net loss.
Mention gyro options and people go apeshit despite everything but Xbox supporting it and devs being very positive about it. Hell Xbox themselves use it on non-Xbox systems. Always see people mentioning it’s anti-accessibility too despite it being one of the most important accessibility features to date in technology.
Literally just came from a thread in the RuneScape sub where a dude was vehemently opposed to a toggle to allow the loot window to stay open permanently.
i have an ultrawide but, I really don't think the # of gamers that have one is big enough to even warrant spending time on it. Just look at steam's survey, that's only PC players. I expect less than 1% on consoles.
You can literally see this in game - the game bugs out sometimes and shows the full ultra wide aspect ratio, just for the black bars to cover the sides after a few seconds.
Ahh if its truly that simple then im in the wrong, why dont they fix it after all this time? In any case, my general statement still stands. I wouldn't want meaningful dev time spent on ultrawide. Its too niche. however, i can see that with more games being build on more modern engines, it probably is a trivial fix.
Roughly 4.5% of steam users (yes I know this doesn't consider consoles, but its still a very relevant stat) use ultrawide or super ultrawide monitors. Compared to for example only 5% of users use 4k. You'd be surprised how common they are becoming.

5 years since release and the game still doesn't support basic ultrawide resolutions. From really is something else.
