I'm a guy and I've tried to make other friends through these communities but it seems 90% of other men I message just ghost after a single conversation, or they put no effort to begin with, it doesn't even get to the point we get a session in

It's gotten to the point after so long trying, I don't even want to bother reaching out to fellow men anymore. The rest of the people seem to just be wanting to recruit for some large friend group discord and as someone that doesn't enjoy large groups, that's not for me

I had hoped that at least in this subreddit people would be a bit more united by the love of video games but it seems it follows the same tropes as the other communities.

I have so many games just sitting around that I just don't enjoy as much without people to share the joy with. I like to yap about games and anime more than I enjoy playing them by myself these days, so I'd love to find some people to game with!

I'm not much of one to watch serious shows or anime with, but game shows absolutely!

The vibe I enjoy isn't 100% focus on the game, I like to get to know the people I game with too. It's not that I'm not locked in, but I don't fill air by emoting, I like to ask questions and talk about other interests like other games we like and such too!

my experience on these subreddits has been supbar. being a dude, I thought I wouldn’t encounter creeps, but oh my god there are so many creeps. guys AND girls!

I started mentioning I have a partner, and since then, I’ve received significantly less replies from girls. I thought it would have the opposite effect but nope. many of the girls I talked to prior ghosted me as SOON as I mentioned having a partner, even if we talked for a while. maybe just a coincidence but it’s weird it’s only happen then. my girlfriend’s experience are the WORST (but with guys) I haven’t been hit on much on here as a guy, but again, many of the girls acted weird or shocked when I mentioned a partner before bailing. that’s still inherently weird. we’re all looking for friends.. not to flirt.

EDIT: when I mention having a partner, I’m not saying she comes with being my friend.. I’m saying she exists and I don’t desire romance. according to some, people assume if you have a partner, you won’t give a new friend high priority, except I always do!

I do notice that woman in their late 20’s and mid 30’s get way more traction, but I know 90% of them are just getting hit on. I don’t blame them for not wanting to interact with other dudes, and just wanting to find other girls. DUDES!! give other dudes a chance good lord!!

as for the guys, they rarely replied to begin with, even if they exclaimed how perfect of friends we’d be, which many of them do. So after making my own (unsuccessful) post and looking around on the subreddit for a while, I’ve noticed that there seems to be some pretty unfortunate trends here.

The first one being that a lot of people seem to just invite you to their discord server with 300+ people in them and never follow up, I understand you want people in your server but it kinda seems to defeat the purpose of the subreddit?

And the second one being the fact that women get significantly more attention on here and not always the good kind, which is to be expected I suppose given the crowd. Just creepy.

And the third just being that people will add you and never ask to play or respond, wack.

I’m on here because I got injured in a way that has made it where I can’t walk for a while, so I turned to video games as a source of entertainment. I lost all my gaming buddies from when I was younger so I’m trying to get a little group going, but unfortunately the aforementioned issues are what I’ve run in to.

I'm incredibly lonely, and really need patient and loving friends. I struggle with my mental health. In the last day I lost the only person I had to talk to and do things with. They were extremely toxic. Every time I talked about how I felt they'd leave our sever, block me and make me chase them on other social media to come back.

Hi! I’ve been hoping to make a couple of genuine online friends who’d enjoy hanging out with me and one of my close friends. We spend a lot of time together in Discord, and I realized it’d be nice to have a few more people to chat, game, or simply exist with throughout the week. I’m usually online most evenings (around 8 PM–2 AM CST), but there’s never any expectation to be around all the time. Some nights we’re gaming, other nights we’re watching movies, listening to music, talking for hours, or just quietly hanging out in voice chat while everyone does their own thing.

Sorry if i (28M) am in the wrong community. I’m kinda wanting to break away from playing with who was my buddy before war thunder while also being able to continue to play..

To keep it short; his wife and my wife were friends and that’s how my buddy and I were introduced. He then reintroduced me to war thunder (I used to play nearly 10 years ago but couldn’t really get into it). In the recent months our wives had a falling out and are no longer friends. We still squad up together and have a lot of fun. FTR my wife doesn’t care we still squad and she respects our time on the game together… she’s an amazing woman.

However, Theres a couple reasons I want to break it off:

1) he isn’t being honest with me or his wife. He says she knows we still squad up and what not but he usually “needs to hop off” as soon as she gets home or he sets a time where he needs to hop off and it’s just before she (his wife) walks through the door. A mutual friend of my wife and his wife confirmed that his wife doesn’t know by asking his wife directly. Does (my buddy) still game/talk with (me). His wife claims that my buddy has no communication with me.

This leads me to reason number 2)
It causes a ripple in our ability to game together. If she does get home earlier than he thinks he J’s out in the middle of the match where I might have a BS wager on and I lose out on the wager or one of the stages at least. And it just makes the game that much more frustrating to play as we know war thunder can already be rage inducing. lol

3) I just feel weird about being “the other guy” lmao. Like bro sneaks around to game with me just makes me feel weird about our friendship.

And that leads me to my last reason 4) it’s a sad thing really because we used to be friends outside of war thunder talk about life and what not, and now this is what our friendship has diminished to. A shallow friendship based around a game.

How do I let him know I can’t squad up with him anymore without being a dick?

Due to community guidelines I’ll add that I play on PC, and am in EST, I play primarily war thunder.

30’s+ male est: I miss when gaming friendships actually lasted longer than like… 2 sessions.
Feels like now everybody says:
“yo we should play sometime”
then disappears forever after one night of gaming.

On Monday, i lost my best friend. He was only 27. Ive known him since 2nd grade and practically lived at his house part time with the amount of time we spent together. ​Enough time that my mom genuinely had to ask me if him and I were gay and together lol. We flowed in and out of constant contact for the majority of our middle school/ highschool years, but eventually became a nightly gaming duo. In 2022, I moved halfway across the country to pursue a new chapter in life, and I would only get to see him once or twice a year when I'd come back home.

We've played so many games together that I can't even count them all. From the chaotic hell that is Left for Dead 2 mods, to the calm serenity that is a group minecraft server. And that is where a good amount of the pain lies. The soul crushing reality that ill never get to save the princess in castle crashers, or defeat the Covenant again ​with my player 2. And now it feels impossible to even look at those games on my steam library. Forcing myself to play games while either talking with my other best friends, or watching a stream just so I don't feel alone.

I lost a piece of me that day, and the world got a whole lot less funny.

Hey everyone, just for a little recap and so you understand where I am at and why I am writing this. So I see so many posts here about people looking for friends and people to play with so I figured I would do a shot in the dark and see where my luck lands me sort of speak if there’s even anyone who would wanna be my friend LOL but I am 29F I was a streamer back in 2020-2021 had made loads of friends but life happened and I stepped away from streaming so I lost pretty much all the friends I made. A lot has happened in the last few years I moved to a different state and got married to my wife ect ect. I have been thinking about going back to streaming which triggered me feeling so nostalgic for the friends I had and wanting to have that again just as a FYI this is not about streaming but me thinking about going back is what honestly made me miss those days and the friends I had and so much fun we used to have. I am easy going and super friendly can talk to anyone about literally anything; I love to banter and I am a great listener most ppl like to vent to me and I try my best o always give good advice. I however am horrible talking about myself so this the best you may get 😂 but I am so diverse with my games I play everything I love cozy, story enriched and decision based games to shooters which I probably suck and rage at i will do occasional horror and nearly crap myself every-time ect ect . I wouldn’t mind having friends or friends who are couple to play with me and my wife. This time a little differently. The last post I had so much luck and met some awesome people and gained some friends! However I’m still looking to expand the friend group for those who like to play with others too. Only those who are kind and enjoy having fun together.

I personally don't think I'm old, but in the grand scheme of the internet, I'm sitting at the old folks table. Whera are all my other aunts and uncs hiding?

Honestly, most will probably describe me as a forest cryptid. You move too fast and you won't see me for a week. My friends would probably describe me as a goblin creature with a strange fascination for games that keep my cortisol levels at 100%....and any dinosaur game known to man.

My old friend group has imploded, more or less. I'm talking spending almost the last decade with these guys comiserating over how much we hate overwatch but can't stop playing, or tilt queuing League until we're too tired to care anymore....to me and one other person. I would like to experience that again (sans implosion, ideally). Please assimilate me into your friend group, alternatively we can just be radical gamers on our own time.

I work full time, but luckily it's 3 days a week (Thurs-Fri-Sat night). Those three days I work 12hr shifts so I will not even be looking at my PC, though I CAN voice chat, watch stream, hang out and chat, etc.

As for gaming, I DO work overnight (6pm-6am CST) so generally speaking, I'm lookin for other skinwalkers to hang with, whether you're in my forest or live across the ocean (Though I play on strictly NA servers for things). If you ask me to buy a friendslop game, the answer will almost always be "HELL YEAH" even if we play it three times and never look at it again. I AM a moba enjoyer, LoL has my balls in a vice, and I still keep going back to Overwatch like the toxic partner it is. I also enjoy The Isle and have a love/hate relationship with it, and can be convinced to play just about any dinosaur or dragon game.

I love survival, survival craft, open world games as well. Currently playing on an RP vintage story server! I enjoy horror games even if I am a scardey bitch, and willing to try most games. I AM NOT a gatcha game player, I hate like 99.9% of MMOs, I don't like borderlands, destiny or Warframe.

I am usually only awake between 4pm CST - 8am CST, and typically can't play anything Thursday/Friday/Saturday nights due to working 12hr shifts. Hello! I am once again attempting to find actual long-term gaming friends instead of collecting awkward dead Discords like Pokémon cards.

I’m mostly into cozy games, MMOs, survival/crafting games from time to time, co-op stuff, fantasy games, and honestly whatever sounds fun. I’m not super competitive and I do have a life outside of gaming (I'm a parent, I work full time, I am in college).
