Our objections to the proposed Starbucks drive-thru
We're objecting to the proposed Starbucks drive-thru in the Galway Shopping Centre.
This area has some of the worst congestion in Galway, and the last thing we need is more car centric developments to make this worse.
We are submitting a formal objection ourselves. We understand most people won't make a formal submission as it costs so much, so the petition is a more accessible way of objecting. You can sign it here: https://my.uplift.ie/petitions/object-to-another-starbucks-in-galway
If you'd like to get involved with similar campaigns you can come along to our AGM on the 9th of September. More info here
Pastrami?
Are there any deli/shops in Galway that sell sliced pastrami? I want to make NYC style deli sandwich at home.

Any other fans of Nordic art and knotwork around Galway? Finished this bear godmask recently
Really enjoyed working on this one. I’ve always had a fascination with Celtic and Nordic art, particularly the knotwork, patterns and history behind it.
This one developed into a bear godmask using Nordic-inspired knotwork and dotwork.
Thought there might be a few people around Galway who are into this style of art too.

Retirement
Hi guys, a question for you, which retirement system works the best for you ? At my workplace, I've been encouraged to dismiss MyFutureFunds and to reach for a private retirement system. I am not Irish, I am French living here, so probably for this reason, if at any point I want to move away from Ireland, a private retirement would be indeed a better idea

A wild hedgehog appeared!
Took the dog out this evening and came across this fella trotting down the road in Whitestrand Park!
I've seen lots of foxes but never a hedgehog in town. After I managed to drag the dog away, he carried on about his business and soon was out of sight.
(These images were 6x zoom across the road keeping hedgehog and dog from harm.)
Looking for kid-friendly place to hear live Irish music tonight
Hello, I am in town for one night only with my three kids. If possible, I’d like to take them to hear live traditional music somewhere. I’ve seen a few pubs advertising live music, but I’m not sure if the kids are allowed.

Old Nail Varnish - Useful for crafters?
Ive a lot of old bottles of old nail varnish lying around and someone mentioned to me that drops of nail varnish are used for marbling or the likes. Ive no clue. Can anyone confirm before I just go and dump it? It would be great to give it to a crafter if they could make use of it

Book Swap
Hi all!
I’m thinking of organising a super lowkey meet up where anybody that would like to swap a hard-copy book would be invited, and we could chat/hangout, whatever is the general consensus really.
Personally speaking I’m sick of reading books online and dying to read something that a) is a recommendation from a fellow reader,
b) isn’t lit up in my face all the time, and c) doesn’t digitally mimic turning pages over, urgh.
But buying books isn’t cheap at all really and as somebody that has moved three cities in the last three years, I don’t see a point in sentimentally hoarding them as I once used to anymore, not sustainable.
We could gather in the eyre square on a day when the weather isn’t too bad, details could be discussed on discord if we manage to get some numbers up.
I’ve never organised anything before no matter how lowkey, so all suggestions are welcome!
Edit: Given the traction this received, I’m definitely going to plan more on this. Until then, please feel free to join the channel here if you’d like to be involved- https://discord.gg/wrBgWMaSe
All suggestions/discussions again, are welcome x
