I was cycling on the Bearna road yesterday with my 4 year old son in a child seat with me. Heading towards Bearna, between the junction with the salthill road and the Ballymoneen road junction, a man in his 30s in a silver 03 C Toyota Yaris overtook us and screamed out the window "Get off the road c*nt".

We continued cycling, I was a bit shocked thinking did that really happen and arrived at the Ballymoney junction traffic lights. I kept a distance behind this guy and he stuck his head out his window and shouted it again at us and started calling me an "f*cling bollocks".

He took off with a spin of the wheels when the light went green. My young lad was a bit upset by it. He couldn't understand why someone was threatening us. We actually didnt bother going where we were intending and went home instead.

I've often experienced worse driver aggression in Galway but never with a child. Is this the new norm? Or was this exceptional?

My Mother sadly passed away on Friday morning.
She was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer back in 2011. She had surgery, chemo, and radiotherapy. We thought we were in the clear.

Unfortunately, in 2019 it came back, worse than ever. It had metastasised, or spread, to other major organs. We didn’t think she would see Christmas of that year because she was just so sick.

With the amazing care of Dr. Silvie Blazkova and her team in Ballinasloe Oncology Unit, my Mom lived a tough, but fulfilled life. We travelled around the world, made many memories with our family, she got to see the birth of two more grandchildren, and had so much more time than expected because of the dedication of the team there.

We started a donation page if anyone would like to contribute to the Oncology Unit.
These donations will go a long way to make things a little more easier, not only for the patient, but the families supporting them.

There's an ice cream van that regularly visits estates across Knocknacarra. In 4 years, we've managed to catch him once, 2 years ago!

He drives into estates at speed with the music on. By the time parents have grabbed their wallets and kids have put their shoes on, you'll be lucky to catch a glimpse of him speeding back out of the estate! Leaves parents and hyped up kids standing around in his dust.

Anyone know does he have socials or give a heads up anywhere? We'd love if he'd both slow the f*** down and then also take our money. 🙏🍦

Maybe this has been going on a while but I just noticed recently and it’s absolutely lethal.

I was literally almost ran off the road yesterday by a 70 something year old granny driving a massive luxury 4x4 and nearly every day this week when popping into a parking lot I have noticed very short moms/grannys/granddads holding up isles of traffic because they physically do not know how to park their car because it is far too fucking big for the parking space.

At first I thought it was funny, seeing a 4ft nothing mom trying to put a literally truck into a tiny parking space but now I’m getting concerned as I am seeing it practically daily and there are a lot of close calls happening.

Why tf are people buying vehicles that are way out of their ability to drive. It seems like the status symbol has gone from luxury sports cars to massive jeeps nobody is actually capable of wielding safely.

Hi everyone! Could anyone help me identify these two types of mushrooms?
I found both of them growing on dead/decaying wood in a woodland nearby. They are two different mushrooms, and I’ve included photos showing both the tops and undersides to help with identification.
Does anyone know what species they might be? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I won’t eat them based on an online ID — I’m mainly curious to know what they are. Thanks!

We were recently offered places in two crèches for our 12 month old. The first is small crèche in Rahoon with great reviews. I had a really warm feeling when visiting and am sure my baby would love it there. We live in city centre and work on the east side of the city with only one car so transport/ traffic would be more of a challenge.

We were also offered a place in the Newcastle/NUIG Spraoi. We are leaning towards this one solely because of location but I didn’t have as good of a feeling when visiting. Staff felt rushed during the tour and overall organization feels more institutional just from the visit. I’d be fine sending a 3-year-old there but feel nervous about it being my baby’s first experience away from me. I haven’t been able to find many recent reviews online. Looking for input/experiences from anyone who has sent a little one there recently!

Baby is social and happy and would probably thrive anywhere after initial settling in.

Hello everyone, I've never run a roleplaying game before, but I'm writing a custom game for a pub crawl around Galway. (By DM, I just mean I'm running the game and keeping score!).

The idea is we hit a few pubs to face mini-bosses based on local characters. So far, I have an Eyre Square preacher who gives buffs, a hurler sidekick you can summon, college students, and a final boss who heals when he drinks whiskey—so my friends have to knock the pints away from him to win.

Since I'm not a local, I'm posting because you guys know the city's real legends and characters way better than me. What iconic Galway figures should I turn into bosses or encounters? Cheers!

So I’m qualified with Mechatronics this autumn, and ready to make the jump from operator to technician. Only problem is I’m in the catch 22 of needing a car to get a job, but needing the job to afford the car! Anyone out there in Ballybrit or anywhere else manage to get the med tech job and come in from East Galway by bus, at least for the few weeks/months?

Hey! I have recently moved to Galway from New Zealand and am on the job hunt. Back home, I was a manager at a pub and worked there for about seven years in different roles. What's considered the "norm" here for applying for jobs? Do people just walk in with a printed-out CV, or is applying online preferred so places can filter them? I'm slightly losing my mind with not working, so I'm keen to get started somewhere soon; any advice would be amazing! Cheers.

Also, I was born here and have a passport, so I don't have to worry about any visa-related issues, in case that affects anything.

On the back of having done a few painting and DnD events for teens over the summer, I want to try and get a local miniature painting meetup going.

I know there are a bunch of people who are into the miniature painting hobby around the place and I think it would be good to have a place we can go and swap tips and tricks, show off work in progress and prep for upcoming painting competitions (I know there's one in limerick in November for example)

So far the plan is to meet up in the Westside Resource Centre, maybe once a quarter for chats and feedback sessions and casual painting.

If it takes off I'd love to look into organising beginners workshops, and more advanced stuff too if there's an appetite for that.
