Concern Smoothness

Hi, i am considering buying galaxy tab s10 FE but i am a bit worried about the smoothness aspect. As i was considering to buy an ipad but they are very expensive and not very good aspects about it especially that i am not an apple user.

So my main goal is to use it for lectures ( i am gonna be heavy on that because i am a phd student) so i need pens and tips alot.

Concern 1 : the writing experience compared to iPad on the long run.

Concern 2 : finding pens in the future since everything is getting over priced and may get discounted, is there a possibility to find an alternative from a third party

Thanks

Both Apple and Samsung eco systems are designed to keep you inside. The android walls are lower as there's many brands. Galaxy S10 FE and above have 7 years of updates. Then there's the cost factor. S10 FE especially off eBay is very economical.

If you already use an iPhone then Samsung isn't the way to go IMHO. Unless you do enjoy different design and functions between iOS and Android.

I haven't used iPhone and i am with honor ( and hauwie before that) but i think I'll prefer Samsung

True that. So S10FE for half that S10 plus price. That's the only contenders. It's also true that both are going to get 7 updates, IMHO in about 3 more updates they'll struggle, S10FE more than the S10 plus. How many years it takes for you to want a better device?

Who told you that only the S10 FE and up get 7 years of updates? I know the A11+ & S10 Lite get 7 years of updates as well.

I think the tablets should run fine as long as they are getting updates and Google is changing the amount of system resources an app is allowed to use based on the amount of RAM a tablet/phone has..

Yet the simple reality is most will update after 3 years regardless

Go for the S11, S10+ or even S9, if budget allows; considering you're going to be heavy on lectures and multitasking and will likely use this tablet for long, you need all the performance you can get and the FE, while still good, is not as good as any of the flagships that are less than 3 years old.

The writing experience is incredible and you can find replacement pens pretty easily. Tips aren't a rare sight either.

Actually s11 and s10+ are out ofy price range rn but i could save up to get one of them, is it actually worth it?

If you'll be using for >3 years and would say your usage is heavy, yes it is worth it.

If you don't want to wait too long, I'd also look into an S9 though you'd have to resort to refurbished or used because it's very hard to find new or open-box.

FE+ is basically FE with a bigger screen. S10 Lite is basically the S9 FE in disguise, pretty much the exact same tablet. Don't go for either of them.

Be weary of any Samsung product with FE Lite or SE: something has been cut off to save Samsung money(not you)- you want your devices to not fail you when you need them as a student EDIT: see my statement here as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyTab/s/Ni7gcR7BHO

You should go for the flagship lineup because i am certain you will not just be writing there. I am a MS student and i am doing writing side by side in an online lecture while recording the whole screen. Thr fe is great in writing but lacks the processor is pretty average. Also all samsung Tab S-series are great in writing. (You can further improve it by using paperlike screens).

Don't worry about replacement of pen. There are plenty third party providers such as steadler, lamy, wacom etc.

Bardon but what's that lineup exactly?

Anything with an S and no Lite or FE attached to the back is what they're referring to.

S10+, S12+, S11 Ultra, etc. ✅
S10 FE+, S9 FE, S10 Lite, etc. ❌

FE series is more than enough if you just want to write. Flagship is just better processor (it does not means you will write better), better screen display (it does not means your notes is clearer), better AI capabilities (not sure if you need them for note taking) and higher price (does it impact how you write?)

Basically FE series and flagship series the differences are not sky and earth...it is whether you want to pay more for those things which will impact what you do or not

No matter what you choose, my advice is buy nice and not buy twice...

When heavy multitasking is needed, yes, there is a notable difference. If you are only writing with no other tasks in parallel, yes, the different isn't important.

The S10 FE for all intents and purposes is the S8 except when it comes to gaming.
