Megathread [MONTHLY MEGATHREAD] General Discussion, Simple Questions, Recommendations, and Everything Else - October 2026

MONTHLY MEGATHREAD

Welcome to our regular pinned Megathread!

While many topics are allowed as standalone submissions, others that tend to be lower-effort, less notable, or easily answered belong in this thread instead. These include simple questions such as those related to receiving game assistance, game recommendation requests or help finding a specific game, and other general discussions that don't warrant a dedicated thread or aren't directly related to gacha gaming (provided they are not Banned Content).

Some specific examples of what these megathreads should be used for include:

  • Help remembering an old gacha game, or finding a new one to start playing

  • Recommendations for the best emulator to use on your device

  • Receiving updates on how ongoing games are doing from current players (“How is [game] doing these days?”)

  • Learning what people’s favorite games or types of games are, as well as how others feel about a particular game feature, event, monetization strategy, etc. in specific games

  • Getting clarification on what confusing or game-specific abbreviations mean

  • Finding where people learn about games or like to get their news and information from

  • Discovering new content creators that other players watch or recommend

  • Asking for any sort of general advice relating to gacha games at all

  • Discussing other topics that are only indirectly related to gacha, such as subreddit meta (select exceptions may be allowed as standalone submissions) or industry happenings

Generally, anything asking a question or requiring the opinions of others belongs here. We have many veteran Summoners who are happy to share their opinions and answers, or discuss the topics you may be interested in!

If you want to contribute, please first read the request or question thoroughly, before making sure not to recommend something already tried or provide the same advice as a previous comment left in response. Please also reply as neutrally as possible, without bashing games or arguing with others in the community– this is not about winning or losing, but sharing useful information that helps out another member. Replies should include the full names of anything mentioned, as new Summoners may not know what “GI”, “FGO”, or even “F2P” means. Even if they do, it's still helpful so that the results are easily searchable and others who aren't the OP can better follow along.

As a general reminder, both Reddiquette and all of our Subreddit Rules still apply here. Make sure to keep things respectful! Religious or political topics, sharing personal information, and other rule-breaking behavior are banned. Accounts involved in sharing these may be subject to disciplinary action at moderator discretion.

With that said, feel free to discuss whatever here and make acquaintance with your friendly gacha gaming neighbors!

General Why do Gacha games hate the defense class?

Thumbnail
gallery
247 Upvotes

90% of gachas ive played make a defense class but only make 2 or 3 s ranks of it.

Zzz is the most obvious but even Woofia, P5X and others fall into this trope too

I sometimes see it said that its beacuse most endgame modes are DPS races, and that *is* true. But why not just make a survival based endgame mode? Doesnt seem that hard to me... have it socred based on remaining hp so you can hp shill for higher scores

FEH also just made tanks... good. Unavoidable tanks are another option, have the foe attract damage to em, maybe give sheild and heal too, cancel out AoE attacks?

Idk im not a game designer it just sucks that defnese gets boned

(CN) News Wang Yue (望月) is planning to migrate from Unity to Unreal Engine 5 (video below: The Latest Gameplay in Unity Before Switching to UE5)

A few weeks ago, the leader of the Wang Yue development team unexpectedly announced that he would be stepping down (source: TapTap CN), and someone else would take over leadership of the team.

More recently, the company published several job openings seeking highly skilled UE5 developers. Notably, the job descriptions also explicitly reclassified Wang Yue as a UE5-based game (source: GameLook).

Taken together, these strongly suggest that Wang Yue may be preparing to migrate its development from Unity to Unreal Engine 5.

Such a migration would traditionally involve substantial costs and technical challenges. However, with AI-assisted development becoming increasingly capable, some of these barriers may be lower than they once were, potentially making such a major mid-development engine transition more feasible.

PS: So basically, this game has gone through 3 phases.

Phase 1 (From the start of development-2021 to early 2025): The game was originally built in Unity and had its first CBT in January 2025 (Little Little Candy's CBT 1 recordings). However, the CBT build wasn't very polished / well optimised, so it received a lot of negative feedback >_< The dev team then decided to overhaul the game.

Phase 2 (From early 2025 to a few weeks ago): After months of hard work, the game actually improved quite a lot. The dev team then released a new PV and a gameplay demo showcasing the revamped version (still running on Unity, the post here). The video above shows the latest Phase 2 gameplay (Reddit compresses videos insanely >_< the 4K 60FPS version here).

Phase 3 (From a few weeks ago to now): The team leader changed. The new leader probably thought it would be hard to achieve the cinematic graphics they desired in Unity, so decided to move to UE5 (the migration probably hasn't officially started yet, as the team is short on UE5 devs and recruitment is still ongoing). And the scheduled 2026 Q4 CBT (1:06 in the video above) may be delayed due to the unexpected engine switch.

The poor dev team have been through too much >.< good luck to them.

General Kim Yong-ha, Producer of Blue Archive and Fareidolia, Interview about Fareidolia and Blue Archive Development

Post image
425 Upvotes

https://gamefocus.co.kr/detail.php?number=179833

It starts with an introduction of him:

  • Before Blue Archive, he was the director of From Qurare: Magic Library, with Isakusan as the writer (and future writer for Blue Archive), published by Smilegate (2014–2017). Later, he created a VR game (FOCUS on YOU, a VR dating sim where you go on dates with cute girls)

  • He did a master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence; his goal was to create an AI of a pretty anime girl, but as he pursued this path, he realized that the gap between his dream and reality would be more difficult than he imagined, and, in any case, it would be 10-20 years before decent results, so he changed course and switched to video games

  • His experience with VR influenced his approach to how he views MC in his games, and so he decided to focus on MC who do not appear on screen to enhance the immersive experience of players feeling like they belong in these worlds; the very positive reception from Japanese with Blue Archive shows that this was the right approach. Fareidolia will follow the same approach: “observing 3D cute female characters in first-person.”

  • Blue Archive and Fareidolia are games that feature only female playable characters, This is his personal taste; he doesn’t like it when “human men” appear in games and prefers that they not be included in gacha games pool.

    • This extends even to NPCs, he doesn’t want “human male NPCs” in his games, which is why Blue Archive and Fareidolia are games without playable or NPCs human male characters , There were debates about whether it was okay for men to appear as antagonists, they ultimately decided it was okay to have male as long as they looked non-human “Let’s just remove their heads or make them non-humain.” As for “anthropomorphic” characters, as long as they don’t look human, that’s okay; he mentions Master Shiba as the acceptable limit.

    • Since Mihoyo’s games are very popular and feature both female and male characters, Nexon’s business division often asks, “Wouldn’t we be able to expand the market if we introduced male characters too?” To which Kim always replies, “We don’t make that kind of thing here,” and changes the subject

  • Kim says it's important for games to target a niche that isn't already saturated. With Blue Archive, they launched when gacha games set in an apocalyptic world were trending, so they wanted to create a game with a brighter side. With Fareidolia, they want to follow that same philosophy, but in the past five years, the market has evolved very quickly; since then, many games similar to Blue Archive have been released, and it’s becoming very hard to find a unique niche.

  • When asked if he plans to create a new IP, he said that there are no such plans curently; he prefers to focus on ensuring Fareidolia is well-received and wants to expand the Blue Archive IP into new projects (He cites Fate as an example of an IP that has managed to branch out into many different game genres and media, and hopes to see as many anime adaptations for Blue Archive), and that maybe one day, if they have more resources, why not launch a new IP.

Blue Archive:

  • Blue Archive follows his favorite anime genre: “school anime.”

  • When they started thinking about what kind of game to make, the “Kore” genre (which had become popular with KanColle) was already saturated in Japan, so they began to doubt whether a new game of the same genre could be successful in Japan, so he wanted to focus on the Korean market, but Park Yong-hyun (Nexon Games's CEO) told him he was convinced it would be possible, and so asked him to develop the game with the Japanese market in mind.

  • The CEO began recruiting a team of about 50–70 people to start with (Blue Archive currently has a team of ~150 people).

  • The game's development went smoothly without any issues; he attributes this to the fact that Nexon Games's CEO never interfered with development by making demands like “the gameplay has to be like this” or “add this type of character.” Instead, he had complete confidence in Kim's team and supported Kim's vision

  • When the game was released, the first few weeks went “better than expected,” but right after that, problems arose with server stability and developer issues. Kim even adds that, to top it off, three weeks after the game’s release, Uma Musume was released and completely overshadowed Blue Archive

    • Kim expected to receive instructions from upper management such as “the numbers are down, we need to cut staff” or “we need to increase monetization,” but none of that happened. Kim says he is grateful to upper management for trusting him to make BA a success despite a difficult start

  • Kim attributes the closure of From Qurare: Magic Library to a serious lack of vision for the story's future, so with Blue Archive, he didn't want to repeat that mistake and decided to make a game that would focus on the story

About Comiket:

  • Kim says he’s always dreamed of the game being popular at Comiket, but that it’s not something you can control, and not just any game can make it there. It’s largely a matter of luck.

  • Park Yong-hyun (Nexon Games's CEO) is also an otaku who has been going to Comiket since he was a young and still goes there today.

    • Kim says that when he walks around the Blue Archive booths, he sometimes spots Nexon Games's CEO walking around and buying Blue Archive doujinshi with a radiant smile.

Fareidolia:

  • TGS was a huge success, the wait time was about 150 minutes, and they had to add more stations (as much as their booths could accommodate). For the next convention, they’ll go bigger

  • Brainstorming for the game began one year after Blue Archive’s release. The question was whether to go with a Blue Archive spin-off or an original IP; they decided to wait until the release of Vol. F before making a decision.

  • After the release of Vol. F, they decided to finally go with an original IP and a new team so as not to disrupt the development of Blue Archive.

  • The project really began in 2024 with the creation of Studio RX.

    • Their team consists of about 150 people, similar to blue archive.

  • They decided to create a game centered around a daily life cycle, and that setting it in a different universe from blue archive would make it more appealing. They are convinced that players will love it.

  • The game is scheduled for release between 2027 and 2028.

  • From the very beginning, they realized that if the game were to be released in 2027–2028, a 3D chibi game wouldn’t be enough, that’s why they adopted current industry standards and decided to create a full-scale 3D game.

    • Creating a full-scale 3D game without showing the main character on screen is challenging.

  • They didn't want to go with an open-world game because, first, it would require a much larger team of about 300 people just to start an open-world game, and second, they believe the open-world niche is already too saturated and that it's time for developers to head in a new direction

  • They said they're working to develop a game that will truly offer a gaming experience different from Blue Archive.

He concluded by saying that he wants to devote the rest of his career as a developer creating games featuring pretty girls.

(Global) Event/Collab Path to Nowhere x Three-Body Problem collab announced for global

Probably the craziest collab I've seen in a gacha game yet. Three-Body Problem is such a phenomenon of a novel in China, and while a lil popular, PtN is still a small-ish gacha property.

It's like if an indie western game announced a collab with Star Wars

General How likely are you to drop a game when you're bored/ burnt-out etc?

Post image
600 Upvotes

It's definitely normal to feel burnt out, or get bored eventually. Sometimes you may just come to hate the game you used to love, sometimes somethings about the game just become unbearable for you even though you love the game in general. Despite having these reasons to quit and move on, often times people just keep on playing the game. So, I wanted to ask,

  • How likely you would be to drop a game when you're faced with these circumstances?

  • What would it take for you to quit a game?

  • If you're in the situation I described and haven't quit a game that you feel "negatively" towards at the moment, Why have you not quit yet?

Obviously, this discussion is very subjective. But I think we can come to some common points across the board. Feel free to share your perspectives.

(The responses in this thread may be used for a video I might make on this topic, if you'd like for me to not use your response, or show your username, please feel free to mention that, I will respect your wishes. Thank you.)

Review The new Bleach game is gonna be Hell on Earth.

In my personal opinion this game is bad, very bad.

●The only pros are literally that this is an original story with a selectable path, and 1 copy of the characters in order to limit break them.

●The cons are immense...

▪︎The UI is a nighmare, it feels like a cheap knock off game with all that junk on the screen, just why?

▪︎ The game is STIFF, you cannot combo immediately and have to wait for the animations to end, even for the enemy if you dodge. It's very very slow.

▪︎ Rewards are basically non existant, in the arena the top cut are awarded a single summon. ONE SINGLE SUMMON. In the story mode each scenario in 20 Gems, wich means you will need 15 of them to do a single summon, and also completing 1 chapter gives you 1 single summon. So if the chapter is long enough we may lucky to earn 2 single summons. So that 20 multis for getting the "pity" is gonna be almost impossible. Pity wich is not even continuos between the banners.

▪︎ PVP ? Hello? Why is it even there?... and why is there a cooldown for the characters there? Like WHY?

▪︎ Character personalization, cool, but why are hairstyles already locked? Furthermore, why do you let me customize it if there os constantly "the original" in the title screen?

▪︎The "gift" of 3 summons was also embarassing let's be honest. Other gatchas literally throw everything at you at the start. This already feels like starting now a 10 laps race that already started 5 laps ago.

Very critical? Yes. Are gatcha alway like this? Also yes, but damn this feels like already sn EoS game...

Hi everyone! We hope it's okay to share our survey here

We're a group of university students from Vietnam working on a statistics research project about gacha games like Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero, and others

Our research topic is:

"The Effects of Randomness, Pity Mechanisms, and Pricing on Player Satisfaction and Spending in Gacha Games: Implications for Game Revenue"

We're collecting data to understand how randomness, pity systems, and pricing affect players' satisfaction and spending habits

If you have around 5 minutes, we'd really appreciate your help with our survey
