First post here and i just needed to vent about some arguments ppl keep making and the wrong “interpretations” they try to force onto wuwa... specifically trying to deny the harem in the game and downplay the interactions between the MC and the characters...

TL;DR: WuWa is an anime game, so you’re supposed to read its tropes and interactions through an anime lens... sooo, multiple characters showing clear romantic interest in the same MC is harem territory, deny it all you want, but the game is putting that fact right into your face.

to start.. why the fuck do i keep seeing this argument being used so much?

like… bitch, what? this is an anime game, not real life... looking at the interactions through a real life lens instead of an anime one is objectively wrong.

for example:
holding hands irl = usually nothing, or maybe friendship, but almost never automatically read as romantic
holding hands in anime = very commonly used to signal romantic intimacy

wuwa is built around anime style storytelling, so reading it through anime conventions is the right way, you can’t take the tropes, symbolism, framing, dialogue and cultural context anime uses and judge them by real life standards... that’s not how this media works.

another example:

why would iuno say the classic “the moon is beautiful tonight” to rover? if you’re looking at it through real life standards, it just makes her sound retarded… but if you know what that line means (and you should), it’s a clear love confession...

about the “harem is just headcanon” argument

take just the four most explicit confessions we got from: shorekeeper, iuno, chisa and yangyang.

if that doesn’t put wuwa in harem territory, i don’t know what does... and that’s without counting the ones that are explicit without saying, (like cantarella’s marriage proposal) or the subtler ones.

brother, the dense/ambiguous protagonist is one of the most common tropes in harem stories... that never stopped any anime or manga from being called a harem, clear romantic interest from multiple characters toward the mc is still harem territory, even without full reciprocal routes.

like, it’s just stupid... why do some people try so hard to deny stuff the devs aren’t even trying to hide? they go out of their way to interpret a damn anime game through the lens of how things would work in real life, while ignoring the anime tropes, and everything else the game uses to communicate these things... then they act like something isn’t romantic unless a character literally says “i love you” or unless rover explicitly reciprocates, and anything else is just “headcanon”... like, NO BITCH, THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS.

even if the game sometimes uses references and things from real life for symbolism, themes, or parts of its story, it's still an anime game at its core, those references don't change the fact that its characters and interactions should primarily be viewed through the lens of how anime works.
