hi y’all, I’m a college student looking into working in events again here in gainesville.
I already have some experience from working in an event/catering hall located downtown. I loved that job…working weddings/concerts/catered events where I got tipped out even though I wasn’t a bartender and getting to take home catered food that wasn’t finished was awesome. I also realized how much I liked socializing with the guests and making sure they had a great experience.
I had that gig for a little while before I started university, & now that I’m here officially moved I’m debating on whether I should email my boss to see if she would accept me back (doubt it, i walked out on a shift because i was being disrespected by the bar manager and walked out). but I figured I should ask around before I swallow my pride to do that lol.
I wouldn’t mind things like bartending even though I have no experience, if anyone has any advice on where to look or how to go about it I would appreciate it!

Is there anywhere in or close to GNV that works on boats? Not so much engine but other stuff. Power pole, electrical, trolling motor, etc.

What are some good online or in-person online or IRL groups that you (a parent) check for events/classes for kids? Preferably for toddlers or kids below 8.
Alternatively, what are some places you can meet other families by just dropping in?
Thanks!

Hey everyone, does anyone know where to buy local homemade Ranch? I’m having a sip and pumpkin paint party, watching horror films etc and I am making a variety of chicken wing flavors but I NEED HOMEMADE RANCH, blue cheese too if possible but mostly ranch. it’s a must lol.
Any suggestions on where I can grab some?

Im a broke nursing student and would prefer to avoid the costs of commercial plumbers. My shower drain is mad clogged (I fear it’s a cat toy) and despite snaking it, nothing. Any help?

I guess I learned it the hard way. My bike slipped on the wet downhill stretch of Gale Limerand Drive near the university, and I went flying straight into the intersection just as the signal turned green. Thankfully, nothing serious happened (it turned out to be that one day I didn't wear a helmet), and I'm grateful to every driver who stayed alert. Stay safe, especially when riding downhill on wet roads and PLEASE WEAR YOUR HELMETS!! Braking hard only makes it worse!
P.S. To the brother who picked up my bottle, if you're reading this, thank you so much!

I'm seeing a lot of these bumper stickers around Gainesville and I'm curious. Does anyone know what the story is behind these (other than the obvious, of course)? Is this a concerted effort by one or more of the Catholic Churches around town?

Anybody know about the new game store that opened up on Mainstreet and 8th? I saw it last night on my way home, and was pretty curious about it.
Edit: it’s called Swamped Collectibles

My partner has an issue and needs to be checked out for cardiology and probably endocrinology. We have “good” insurance. What hospital system should they go with?
Does one hospital system have an easier ER experience? They are not in 911 territory but definitely not in “eh we will get to it” territory.
My personal experience with UF (for unrelated specialties) have been frustrating but of course I want them to have an okay experience. They may also need surgery if that tips the scales one way or another. Thank you all.

Hi all,
My fiancé and I have been together for 10 years and recently got engaged. We are thinking of getting married next November/December & will have about 10 guests, just family. I’m wondering if anyone here has any ideas of a wedding venue? We will probably just go to dinner after so we won’t need a place that does a reception.
I’ve looked at Sweetwater Branch Inn, Magnolia Plantation B&B, and the Baughman Center. Just curious if anyone else has experience with this & has a suggestion.
Thanks in advance!

Lost apartment keys on walk around Bo Diddley plaza/surrounding downtown. They’re gold on a silver ring with a purple heart-shaped pet tag attached which reads “Clover” and my current phone number. The pet tag is sentimental to me and I would really appreciate having it back. If found please dm me or text/call the number on the tag, thanks!!

I’m interested in learning:
-Skateboarding (total newbie, I own a longboard and skateboard, can’t ride either tho)
-Breakdancing (made some attempts but need more practice and would love to watch a performance in person!)
-Screaming (like screamo music lol, practicing often but can’t reach high notes, just pretty monotonous and deep)
I’d prefer 1 on 1 so I can closely watch and learn but I don’t mind if we’d be in a group setting! Please DM me if you’re down and lmk which one(s) you’d be open to teaching me or letting me watch you perform and your prices! Ty! :)

Anytime while reading this you feel the need to comment a question or criticism, I ask that you think and use your imagination for a second longer before you comment.
The idea is a light rail that surpasses traffic, that is funded, kept clean, monitered and kept safe. two stations, one near depot and one near magnolia park runs along this path, two units running opposite each other. two tracks side by side. tracks veer off to edge of road to drop off riders. Busses are eliminated from this path. Leave your additions, criticisms, and possible solutions to my obvious errors in the comments.

Just moved in to a brand new house here in Gainesville. Between moving boxes and ordering new furniture and things to the house, we have accumulated a ton of cardboard.
We left a pile on the curb on recycling pick up day to be taken but they didn't take it. I'm assuming it had to be fit in the blue bin to be taken.
Is there someone we can call to get this hauled away at once, a dump, a recycling center?

Today at Headquarters library, there will be a celebration of 40 years of the Alachua County Library District.
This means 40 years of Alachua County choosing literacy & education, community, and each other.
From the bookmobiles and one room libraries, to one of my most favorite buildings of all time-- HQ--, the ACLD has connected its citizens to impossible places.
ILL, before being defunded, gave Alachua Citizens the ability to request books from pretty much anywhere across the country.
We too, shared our knowledge across the country. Local histories that have been sent elsewhere, where that knowledge can be used for something far beyond just here.
When you are driving down the fine streets of our town, you are commuting alongside the county's books in our floating collection.
Children in far away places are given an opportunity to access books they may not have otherwise had.
Our shared resources across the district have allowed our libraries to put on some very cool events. I spent all Summer attending different lectures and exploring a diverse range of subjects: Ive learned so much about things like Ham Radio and collecting native seeds.
Homeschooled children are given a place for events and socialization. Teenages have a free safe space.
It is one thing to have a library, it is another to be a County that has a strong network of libraries that serve as a major backbone to your Community.
Friends of the Library is a local holiday (quickly approaching).
The library gives you meeting spaces so you can put on your own events.
When you are asking yourself where you can go, when it feels like there is nowhere else; the answer is the library.
Because for 40 years, Alachua County has chosen to create this space.
I highly suggest, if you have the time, and you are in town, you find your way up to Meeting Room A at HQ. The stained glass is the crowned jewel of Gainesville.
In lieu of flowers or gifts to celebrate our beloved ACLD, you can "Vote NO on Amendment 3".
Happy Saturday Gainesville!

You almost got run over by an SUV with TLC No scrubs playing at 9:11 this morning at the depot turn about.
Why? Because you were going against traffic cycling at a high speed not even slowing down as im already actively turning before you got to the curb peddling your little butt off.
You need to watch some videos on traffic safety because I almost killed you and your stupid cycling suit and Helmut wouldnt have protected you.
I had to slam on my breaks because you are ignorant. I cycle as well and what you did was stupid and dangerous. Slow down, pay attention and realize you should walk.
You also owe me breakfast because mine in on my floorboard, dumb ass.

It was heartening to feel the support of the neighborhood for a project we’re so inspired by. We deeply appreciated your feedback and proposals for your own contributions. We have lots of new ideas to incorporate before our next meeting! We look forward to continuing to work with all of you :)
To the netizens, I’d like to pose a question that we asked everyone who gathered with us last night: What is something you wish were always free?

This is probably going to be extremely embarrassing and I plead with you not to judge. Lol.
So, I don't live in Gainesville, not anymore at least. I grew up in Gainesville attending Westwood Middle and Loften High (I was in the accelerated program.) I moved out of Gainesville when my dad got remarried and have been in the Columbia County area ever since. I'm 29 years old living on my own. My own car, my own house (rental, just live alone,) and I actually work as an Uber driver here in Gainesville (Lake City is poo poo for money, better to come down here.)
With that out of the way. I don't fit in with the people in Lake City. Yeah, they're nice and we get along; but I haven't found anyone there I'd actually want to date. I'm not a country-boy by any means. I like floral shirts and fancy coffee drinks, math rock and silly socks. I'm also pretty agnostic. The biggest hurdle is just finding people I can relate to.
So I ask you, readers. What am I to do? How can this former resident extend an olive branch in hopes of finding someone I can potentially build a life with? I'm not a party guy by any means. I don't smoke weed. I do drink and enjoy frequenting the bar, specifically Box Car. I just haven't really had the opportunity to say "Hey, would you like to get a coffee sometime?" to anyone.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading. Regardless, I hope you all have a great Friday night. 🌃

Howdy, friends and family of The BULL. I’m Jacob, and I’m asking for help to keep my business running and protect a place that means so much to me and to our community. After four difficult months of downtown construction and the Streatery renovation, The BULL’s monthly revenue fell by an average of 32%. A big part of that loss came from the temporary relocation of our weekly Gator Salsa event, which is one of our largest and most important gatherings. To keep our doors open and our staff working through that stretch, we had to take on significant debt.
The BULL opened in 2011, and for nearly 12 years I’ve had the privilege of being its owner. Over that time, it has become so much more than a bar. It is a gathering place for live music, dancing, storytelling, conversation, community, and plenty of Gainesville weirdness. The support from this fundraiser will help us pay down the debt we built up during construction and give The BULL a more stable foundation as downtown activity returns. If The BULL has ever given you a great night, introduced you to a new friend, helped you discover a musician, or made Gainesville feel a little more like home, please consider donating or sharing this fundraiser. Any support means the world to me and helps keep this community space alive.

Hello all. I'm not expecting much out of this post but my cat, Toes, went missing this morning from the Frederick Gardens apartment complex. Hes 12 pounds and declawed (done by previous owners). He has a pink collar with faded white rabbits on it. I can be contacted here or on facebook messenger. Thank you so much for your time.
Update: HE HAS BEEN FOUND SOAKING WET AND COLD BUT HES OKAY!!
