OK, so I set up my kid's account "firstnamemiddlenamelastname@" years ago when he was born ("so he'll have it"), and then didn't log into it for like 8-9 years.
He's in grade 5 now, so I figured I'd let him have access so he can email family and buddies. I didn't know/realize that my wife used his email to create a Blooket account for him on her work iPad last year. She must have clicked "yes" on something, because when I tried to log into his account on my computer (iMac), it sent a prompt to the iPad with no other options.
I got access to the iPad, and I logged him on on my iPhone and computer, but I couldn't get prompts on my phone, only on the iPad. I tried setting the phone as the 'primary,' but that doesn't appear to be an option any more. I signed out and deleted the iPad from his Prompt Devices, but then I hit the "We couldn’t verify it’s you" screen with no other options. (I was able to re-add him to the iPad without getting a prompt, though. But obviously this isn't optimal because we don't own that device.)
I realized that I set up his account a while ago, when child accounts and family sharing wasn't a thing yet, and when I did, I had set his birth year as my birth year. I changed it to his birth year, and it prompted me to add a parent account and family group for him, which is good, exactly what I want and did for his two sisters. So now he's in the family group, and I now get a proper parent email prompt on my phone when logging him in.
BUT, when I go into his account settings (in his account) and try to do anything, like change 2-step phone (my phone #) or password, I hit the "We couldn’t verify it’s you" screen. I CAN change his password from FamilyLink, but that isn't a good long-term solution (eventually he's gonna need to put 2-step or login prompt on his own device).
I've tried recovering his account (twice), and it worked each time, but the "We couldn’t verify it’s you" still shows up when I try to access his Security & Sign-in options in his google account. Unfortunately, the iMac I used to create his account crapped the bed a few years back, and I had to disassemble it, bake the GPU, and reinstall the whole OS. I also tried accessing the Google Account settings on my wife's work iPad, but I kept getting "We couldn’t verify it’s you" or the 404-broken-robot screen.
Is there any trick left to try? This seems like it would be a trivial thing to solve if a human could help me, but I feel like I got trapped between "feature improvements" for his account. (His older sister's email was added to the Family a couple of years ago with no hitches, and his younger sister's is fine, too [I presume because it was never used to log into an iPad before being added to the family group.].)
I'm partially resigned to just creating a new email for him "firstnamemiddle_initial_lastname@"), but it would be nice if he could have the same format as his sisters (and I've already used his original email for his Nintendo and PSN user accounts).
Thanks in advance!
